In my weakness, I seek to belong. Once in a blue moon I look back to the two arcade cabinets I perused on two separate days of my life as a kid and pretend I'm like those boys from Honshu. That I also have the stick itch. So I launch a game like this. Turn on the vintage visual effects. Pick up the controller. Platform. Attack horizontally. Learn the way of the diagonal kick. Honestly restart the level as my lives run out. Nod in rhythm to the 90s Yamaha samples. Then as you replay the same segment for the seventeenth time, you can't help but think how much better the game would feel if you just had more limited choice of games. Sure, one replays everything, but arcades are made to be replayed - and in exactly the same fashion you played them for the first time. With the exception of a few that offer creative replayability for higher score - and those are commonly lauded as masterpieces. Good for a quick fix at a bar or to spend lunch quarters on with three of your schoolmates peeking impatiently over your shoulder. Something for a weird friend of a friend of your dad to brag about, like that guy I knew who was so good at a claw machine he cleared them out for the fun of it and handed all the toys to kids he'd never met before that gathered to gawk at a stranger whose Kung fu was divine like so. These are games of real place, of community, of good times, of action. In the world of games arcades are cinema. But then I remember. I am not from Honshu. I'm from the Urals. And my games are of imaginary place, of vanity, of solitaire times, of meditation. Not cinema, but Kinetoscope. United with the Poles. United with the Chinese. United with the Indians. United with the Koreans (South and North). United with any part of the world where they fly the flag of Queen Anne's Revenge and proceed to salute it in profane resolve. We are the glorious PC master race. Our manes are mesmerising even when lice and life leave us bald.

The game is a bit on the short side but it doesn't overstay its welcome. It feels like if Hagane had been ported to the Genesis and remade with the faster processing but also treated like a Megaman game in structure (intro stage followed by a bunch of stages you can tackle in any order followed by final boss lead up). It's fantastic for what it is. Tight controls, fast-paced combat, and the bosses aren't ever too easy or too hard. The optional upgrades you can find give you some extra freedom to play as you like (one restores MP when you kill enemies, one gives you a free 1/2 health revive once per mission, one makes the sword attack longer, etc) and there's even one for people who find the game too hard that reduces damage (but restricts you from getting A and S ranks). Honestly, I wouldn't change anything about this game except maybe make it a little longer but it's a minor nitpick. Pick this up if you like 2D platformers or action games. To the devs: if you decide to make another game like this, it might be the cherry on top to include MMX-style HP/MP permanent upgrades as hidden items within stages. Might also be worth it to include a second armor set as well. Optional hidden bosses might also be a decent idea. Finding hidden stuff is always good for replay.

I mean... it was good but VERY short. I finished in 2 hours and the game was paused for around 20 to 30 minutes. No secret final boss or true ending, just one ending so when you finish the game you dont have anything else to do besides literally just playing it again for no reason. Zero replayability. 7 out of 10

What a neat but very short game for what it is , 3.5 hours for 100% it. Could have been faster but devs actually went and made some changes from their 1.0 version so no more Metal Man syndrome from Mega Man 2 , but it still heavily leans on to the robot masters concept. Pretty chill n' easy game but can be hard if you make it hard. Overall beautiful game that leans heavily into its influenced games of old , From Hagane, Shinobi, Mega Man, even the map screen brings me memories of Ranger X. Art style and soundtrack alone are enjoyable to finish the game and between finishing and completing it with achievements there's not too much about it so might as well go for it! The only complain besides being a bit short ( which I don't mind as other people do so take that as you will ) I would say difficulty is still a bit on the uneven scale, you can make it harder on you by imposing sword only runs or adding a chip that you obtain from one of the stages but it feels like it could have been an unlockable new game mode after finishing game rather than a chip, also RGB chip could be a feature instead of the upgrade chip? It's def more of make it your own challenge, but I don't mind it too much I just wished it had more separate options for that rather than being a upgrade chip related. Might be a bit pricey, but when its on sale for a 10$ , could be a good pass time while looking at some best implementation of fake CRT mode that I've seen so far , coupled with great art and soundtrack. I kind of wish CRT setting was available as a separate thing to buy as an overlay for my pc for other games now!
