Solid game with solid concept. It's not as intense as Celeste when it comes to platforming puzzle, and the action/progression is not as intense as Hollow Knight. It's a nice hybrid between the two, that makes you feel like a ninja with all the mobility tools when you nail it. And above all, the game is relatively easy. I did have some minor complaints: 1. Backtracking sucks. Fast travel is almost none existent and if you choose the "wrong" path, you have to re-do the entire stage because some places are one-way streets. 2. The level difficulties are inconsistent. Some will have super tight reflex testing area, but then immediately followed by areas that are super relaxed. Not really sure why it's that way. But outside of that, the game was very solid. 8/10.
The Messenger is an hommage to the NES Ninja Gaiden series but midway through the game it transforms into a metroidvania! Great bosses, memorable NPC`s, an amazing present/future mechanic which pays tribute to 8bit and 16bit action games and graphics and above all else, The Messenger will actually make you laugh out loud with its humour and witty dialogue! Hands down one of the best games I have ever played!
“The Messenger” is a genuinely fantastic game. It perfectly blends challenging platforming with exploration, backed by incredible music, writing, and art direction. As someone who usually dislikes Metroidvanias, I was hooked all the way through the DLC. I never got bored. If you’re on the fence, just buy it. It’s so much more than it initially seems, and one of those rare games where the developers’ passion truly shines through. I can’t recommend it enough.
I had a decent time with this game, but it feels like a far cry from a masterpiece. The game is pretty casual for the most part, with a couple tricky parts like the "I Swear It's My First Time" achievement, but largely pretty relaxed. On the subject of achievements there are missable achievements here and fellow achievement hunters should check out a guide if you want all achievements in one run. I love the soundtrack, though it can feel a little repetitive. The story here felt pretty unimpressive, especially with all the exposition towards the end, though I found myself pretty consistently entertained by the shopkeeper.
