Wagamama High Spec High spec cup sizes included. Preclaimer - This is an Adult Visual Novel - one with a free R18 Patch (obtainable at Denpasofts webshop) at that - designed to be R18, which is why I consider the R18 content part of the whole and will include it in this review. If for whatever reason you are not interested in this content, or aren't legally allowed to play it, you should just skip this review. - Since many Visual Novels are similar in a bunch of ways, I'm gonna review this one on a few common aspects, trying to both include references to other VNs as well as give independent explanations. - This is my first impression. I will update this review as I progress further through this game. Graphical & Technical Quality When trying to shortly sum up Wagamama, I can only think of "a mid tier visual novel trying to aim higher but failing to reach that." Wagamama features a solid artstyle with high variety, a default RomCom soundtrack that isn't too annoying even when listening to the same songs for a long time with one or two pretty cool tracks in between and a solid engine foundation, running on the KiriKiri engine. Following that setup it tries a few things out of the book of higher tier VNs like "Sabbat of the Witch" with delivering an infinite (you can create as many pages as you like) amount of saveslots, freely describable, movable and lots of information on them, and while there is no animation on the charater sprites (no blinking or mouth movement), the sprites are changed even mid sentence quite often to give the scene a more lively feel. Hotkey support, jumping back and forth between choices, voice line saving, auto and skip mode with behaviour customization and all the usual indepth customization of the game's feel are present, as well as a unique gimmick I'm gonna get back to in another segment of this review. Furthermore we have a time system which isn't important, but gives us an interesting overview over the timespan and timeskips the story takes place in. On the other side though, the game sadly only has a native 720p resolution which can become impactful in some close-up scenes with highly zoomed in backgrounds or sprites, and even more sadly it has notable performance issues with moving images. In fact, it lags whenever something (like dialogue on clicking/auto progress) is loaded, and even if it isn't faster scenes can have lagspikes. This can best be countered by setting the dialog animation speed to max, so it instantly fully appears. The translation is solid - the usual typos here and there, though nothing overly notable. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2133550808 Content & Runtime What can you expect from Wagamama High Spec? It is a lighthearted RomCom with a fair mix between blunt anime/harem humor and actually funny moments, all in all not being too tiresome. The second half - the much more romance focused heroine routes - actually have some serious story/feel to them. There is four of said heroines to choose from, which you do via 12 dialogue choices throughout the common route. Even if that comparison is really weird, their personalities are like their bust size (which you clearly see up there on the store page) - distinct, yet really over the top. Though in the end still very likable with depth to their character. The male protagonist goes beyond your average dense harem king but the male sidekicks are absolutely zero dimensional and beyond salvation (as always with comedy). Not that anyone cares about them anyway. The game can be divided into two segments - the common route, taking around 10h and the character routes lasting for around 15h (not rush skipping). Considering you only play the common route once thanks to choice-jumping, this gives an estimate of around 60+h of total content. [Update on further progress] After clearing your first route you unlock the gallery where you can re-enjoy the total of 103 CGs and SD artworks, listen to the 28 OSTs and enjoy all the "scenes" once more (if you already saw/heared them ingame before of course). After playing all routes you unlock the sprite viewer, allowing you to play around with all the backgrounds and character sprites in the game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2133550318 The R18 Content Comparing to other adult VNs I'd actually say Wagamama is on the higher ranking side here. There are 4+1 H-Scenes per character (one with 5+1) [the one is unlocked in the gallery after clearing the route], feeling somewhat longer with usually a more thorough build-up. You get to choose between coming inside or out in some scenes with preferences presetable in the settings. Now about the gimmick I was mentioning earlier. Wagamama has a feature called "Nude Patch". Enabling this in the settings (just a normal turn on/off whenever setting) turns all the heroines character sprites to their nude version. It's useless (other than there not being any regular nude sprite usages in the story), but funny, and the existence of this idea is enough noteworthy feature for me. On top of that it also seems like, unlike with other nude sprites in other adult VNs, there is something drawn on the lower body half - because there are full size mosaics over it, because this game is mosaic censored . It even is so much censored, that for whatever weird reason all screenshots taken from within the gallery for the completely all ages common route CGs are completely pixelated. Though other than that the mosaics actually aren't that drastic. Oh, and there are some, sometimes louder sometimes softer, remains of censorship beeping for the two most used H-words we all know that I can't write here because otherwise Steam is gonna censor me too. There is background moaning as well as accompanying sound effects, though this time 'round they don't sound that weird. (Not your usual bone breaking and cement mixing.) When it comes to the depiction of bodily fluids and the inhuman stamina of the actors, Wagamama is rather on the calm/reasonable/believable side, when it comes to fetishes complety vanilla so far. (Except for a more serious approach at the topic of protection, and a bit of first hand incest [blood related sister heroine]). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2133548346 Conclusion Is this game worth it? Sure thing. You get some long lasting entertainment packed into an overall enjoyable "story" at a normal price. Of course there are better VNs out there, but you probably came here reading reviews because you are interested in Wagamama High Spec and not something else. The next sale is always around the corner, and at latest with some discount you can grab a copy without worries. Helpful review?
