The mad lads actually did it. As of today's patch (2.4.1), Dawn of War Definitive Edition is everything I wanted, plus some bonuses on top. Relic managed to multithread the 20 year old game. Meaning: Runs smoothly pretty much no matter what. Throw as many units and fancy modded FX at it as you want, framerate doesn't drop, doesn't even stutter. A momentous day for 40k and RTS: THE downside to Dawn of War 1, is no more.

This is what a Remaster should do: - Unite all the separate games under one title. - Bring back online capabilities for a classic game. - Update models, animations, cinematics and sound quality for the current era. - Do not remove features which the players love, rather add quality of life features they asked for. - KEEP modding capabilities, promote them even more! - Give COST DISCOUNTS to existing game owners (Veteran Upgrade)! - THANK THE EXISTING PLAYERS FOR PLAYING THE GAME!!!! *Insane WIN move* Of all the ways this could have gone horribly wrong in today's gaming market, Philippe Boulle, Jay Wilson and Andy Lang could have ruined this title but instead ensured its success by not shaming the player base but by praising them - and their own game - instead. *hint hint, nudge nudge Tomb Raider Remastered** Thank you Relic. I want to see more of this!

Dawn of War – Definitive Edition is one of the elite RTS titles of the genre — full stop. It stands proudly alongside Company of Heroes, Age of Empires, and StarCraft II as a masterclass in design, pacing, and faction identity. I’ve played every campaign at least once, tried every faction in skirmish mode, and pushed this game from every angle. I wasn’t disappointed a single time. Each faction feels distinct without being gimmicky, the campaigns still hold up decades later, and the sheer amount of content in DE makes it feel like a love letter to classic RTS fans. This game also turned out to be a fantastic entry point into Warhammer 40k lore — I’m now reading the books because of it. Any RTS fan owes it to themselves to experience this. Simply put: Dawn of War – DE is brilliant. I recommend it without hesitation.

Back in 2006, I was young, full of potential, had lots of friends and was meeting one girl after another. Then I bought this game and my life has been a downward spiral ever since. Gateway drug into the Warhammer 40K universe, now remastered. 10/10 would ruin my life again.
