A simplified Civ5 with RPG elements. Oh, it has issues from balance to entire content (e.g. if you are strong enough to step through a portal, clear it out, settle a city, get yourself dragons - you're already strong enough that you wouldn't have needed the dragons and could've just won ages ago), but it's a romp. Better than it's successor.

This game is Civ 6 but far more fantasy oriented, which has caused me to fall in love with it. I've never played any of the other games in the franchise, but this game is such a gem that I just might. The controls are simple, the graphics are beautiful, the mechanics are easy to learn, and the game is just so much fun. Pros: - Diverse fantasy setting with all manner of magical spells, units, structures, etc. - Easy to understand research system (it's literally just a couple buildings and all the spells in existence!) - Easy to use promotion trees for each unit, but expansive enough to the point that I still haven't discovered them all! - Wonderful graphics and unit animations, fully skippable with an extra click too (if you're short on time). - Excellent challenges, events, faith/favor mechanics, etc. - Easy to understand economy, buildings, resources, and troop production mechanics. - Armageddon Mode = Scary ;-; Cons: - The difficulty only got fair after I bumped it to the highest one (Impossible, but it isn't really), but it still plays like Civ 5's King difficulty. I routinely snowball in every difficulty setting and can still beat the absolute everything out of any opponent I can fight on the main world. Even in the highest setting, the only equal challenge I can experience is against AI I haven't met yet. All it really takes is fortifying the border, some clever use of the Raise Land spell, and a strong economy and you can outperform almost anything. - Normal difficulty, due to the above problem, felt almost like Chieftain difficulty in Civ 5. - I have no other complaints. Conclusion: - I love this game, but wish it was just a bit harder on the mid to high difficulty settings. Will play religiously anyway because amazing game.

This was a very fun Civ-like game with magic and monsters.

Is even better than I remembered. Ages very well. Hits a niche for a civ 5/6 type strategy/combat combined with a fantasy RPG that none of the similar games reach.

Outstanding game, although this game is long in the tooth it still delivers solid 4x fantasy gameplay. Really varied units, spells, heroes, artifacts and map layouts. Polished and smooth, a real "one more turn" itch creator. Stable and reliable for old software, just run in windowed mode to avoid the bug when you click off screen if you are running a two screen setup. I love exploring the map, clearing out monster nests and slowly crushing my enemies! Highly recommended game.
