Outstanding game, although this game is long in the tooth it still delivers solid 4x fantasy gameplay. Really varied units, spells, heroes, artifacts and map layouts. Polished and smooth, a real "one more turn" itch creator. Stable and reliable for old software, just run in windowed mode to avoid the bug when you click off screen if you are running a two screen setup. I love exploring the map, clearing out monster nests and slowly crushing my enemies! Highly recommended game.

I give this game a 4.5 out of 5. 5 out of 5 for value. I bought it on sale and then played it for 183 hours over the last month. It is like Civ II meets Fantasy General. The different units are very fun to play with. It definitely has that "one more turn" addictive quality. There are a few minor bugs but they didn't interfere with enjoying the game. If you like turn based games and 4x4 strategy games in a fantasy setting, I think you'll like this. Units gain experience and you can also buy them upgrades as you acquire resources on the map. The AI is kind of dumb and there are limited diplomatic options but regardless of these facts, the AI's actions can keep you on your toes. I found this game very enjoyable.

UP FRONT NEED TO KNOW INFO: It is like Sid Meier's Civilization and Majesty (Ardania world setting) got together, this was the result. If you ever had an urge for a civ game that was high fantasy, this is the game for you. Robust set of spells, bestiary, heroes, artifacts, and themes to immerse you in hours of role-playing as a magical emperor. Pros: -There are 4 races, doesn't matter what you start with, b/c as you conquer other races, you can use their cities to add to your growing horde/empire -Learn spells that you can use all throughout the game, the land altering spells are my favorites, I can not describe to you the feeling of being able to raise land from the ocean and building a civ on it -Units are unique and fun, the addition of the four heroes you can have with artifacts was a nice touch, I recommend the bunny rabbit if you have the gold to spare, he works great as a guardian of an interdimensional gate -You will without a doubt have your favorite hero choices, mine are the Black Mages, they are cheap at first, but give them time to grow (give em better artifacts and grind them until they lvl up), they become basically walking/talking weapons of mass destruction, I got mine to a point where they are conquering whole nations by themselves w/o assistance -Speaking of artifacts, one of the spells you unlock is a two-tier crafting session for new artifacts if you are having trouble getting any, you can make some gnarly stuff -The interdimensional gateways was a nice touch, a very stargate sort of feel to them, you have not only your main world of Ardania but you can go to a couple other (albeit smaller) worlds, i gave one of them to my favorite black mage as a gift for centuries of loyal service to his shadow emperor (me) -Again, the races are fun, you think you only have 4 options (that is true in terms of theme), but each "race" or faction has a plethora of sub-races, depending on your building options, I got a soft spot for the goblins and the ratmen are fun as well (they are basically pirates) -game is affordable -stays true to the Ardania lore, spells, and bestiary, i missed hearing that narrators voice Cons: -the only cons are have, i wouldn't really call cons, b/c these are things that can't be helped right now -the graphics are a bit dated (but it is a 2012 game), every so often there will be a glitch where random strings of light pop up on the map (thankfully so far it has been rare, and not sure what causes it) -i am upset that i never knew this game existed before randomly stumbling around for another 4X style game, b/c this was exactly the type of game i have been looking for a very long time -ships are interesting, but a bit too weak at times if you ask me, that includes the bad-a flying ships you can get -this is a personal preference, but this game would have knocked it out of the park with some steampunk (more airship) and gunpowder options as a late game thing, but that is a personal preference, all-in-all this game stayed very true to the creators vision of a high fantasy realm and game Summation: -this is a must have for your library, especially at the price it is going for

This game is older now, but it still holds up really well. It has a feel of "Civilization" but with spells and magic thrown in. Easy to learn, and fun to play.
