I made a kingdom into a giant empire after taking over with necromancy and my subjects love me but I still occasionally get a hit to public opinion due to raising the dead, I conquered over 10 other kingdoms and have a strong alliance with a kingdom of super strong godlings and I make the bulk of my kingdom’s wealth through arena gambling, I retired twice to see what would happen and the first time my empire fell to ruin due to infighting which ruined my once great civilization, the second time some dickhead usurped my kingdom by killing everyone else trying to claim the throne after I got killed by a lose tile in my ceiling, I wish I could become a lich necromancy or have intelligent undead soldiers, oh well, still awesome! 10/10 would get killed by ceiling tiles again!

It's a unique and fun game, I found mostly about exploring the world the dev crafted. The amount of detail in the world is overwhelming. It is a rather silly game though. While there are quite a lot of procedural components, they play more of a supporting role. E.g. there are lots of fixed assets with limited interactions. It's it's a rather simple and silly game rather than a fully-simulated war/economic/political game, but there aren't really many games like it. Personally I would've liked a map screen showing the land i own, where my kingdom occupies compared to other kingdoms, maybe also showing the trade routes I have, etc. You could justify it in-game by paying for a cartographer.

My first game began with me winning the throne in a bet with the king, so of course I gambled as much as I could once I started actually playing. Without knowing any betting strategies I went broke very quickly, but not before eradicating a goblin nation, at least. Eventually I was in such a dire position (no money, lands getting invaded every turn) that I stepped down from the throne. Somehow, the people mourned my death, using my conquered lands to create a somewhat successful democratic nation... until they got invaded by the demon scourge and were all killed. Oh well. After that, I began my second game where things went much better for me. I won the throne of Wargard by pulling a sword from a stone and began utilizing mercenary groups to do lesser invasions for me. Apparently, hiring a mercenary group and funneling your soldiers into them is actually a really good strategy. As long as you have mercenary barracks they'll never disband, their battlescore will be much higher (depending on the mercenary group, but generally they'll be higher than a typical soldier's battlescore) and you won't need to pay them. Also, they can do multiple battles in just a single turn, most I've seen was six. Using these mercenary groups I was easily able to defeat all of my adversaries, the goblin nations, bandits, and whatnot. About a third of the way into my rule a comically evil alliance was formed between lunar halflings and blood orcs. This was a big problem. I established alliances with the three other nations, the Mist Men, the Dawn Dwarves, and the Golden Elves. Together, we fought against one common enemy. It took many battles to defeat the lunar halflings, wasn't too bad though, just took some skirmishes to whittle them down before I began invading. The blood orcs, on the other hand, were extremely, extremely strong, and I did not realize this until I began my first skirmish with them. Which I failed miserably in. It took many years, but eventually I was able to hire foreign mercenaries to fight for me, and I ended up recruiting about 30 blood orc champions (about 3,000 battlescore each!!!) to fight for me for a hefty 120,000 gold. I took the offer and as soon as I did I was able to finally start winning my fights against the evil blood orcs, until eventually they were vanquished from the realm and there was finally peace in the lands. The last remaining leader of the blood orcs was captured by my soldiers and hurled off the side of a cliff. With battlescores like that who knows if that even killed him. Afterwards, I made my own holiday celebrating this victory, where the people of the empire of Wargard would light ceremonial bonfires, hold festivals, and exchange gifts. But now, there were no bandits, no goblins, no dark alliance. With the lands of our foes conquered, we had become an empire, one of the three super powers of the realm. After my victories, I used the gold I had plundered from my conquests to focus on building up my kingdom more, making tax offices, improving the roads, building libraries and knightly orders. Very cool stuff. Eventually, while adventuring, I came across a portal to a demonic realm where the demon horde that ended my previous reign resided. Of course, with the powerful army I had, I entered, and destroyed all of the demons and their leader. With only a few years left of my reign, I built various monuments and statues of myself, fully upgraded my throne room, I even paved the roads with gold (and had to hire a guard force to prevent people from stealing the gold) until eventually I died in my sleep. The outcome of my empire was good, the people had decided that I was some sort of deity after I perished and engaged in my worship, and with the bandit levels extremely low, the demons vanquished, and the dark alliance destroyed, the people of my empire were able to live peacefully for centuries to come. I left out many details of course because I don't want this review to be a novel long, but this game is just magnificent. It felt like I was really living through a story, and the amount of interactivity and the sheer amount of outcomes there are really makes this game something special. Though the game was sort of complicated at first, you can get the hang of it really easy. I never felt that a system was too complicated, and the simple user interface also helped with making the game more approachable (for me at least), all possible options were always laid out before you at all times. For the price, I think this game is very worth it and I strongly recommend that you give it a try if it interests you at all. I really enjoyed the time I spent playing it, and I think you will too.
