I played on and off, the only thing that kept me interested at the time was Operations mode, it however was on rotation and locked to specific tiers for each map, making if essentially inaccesible unless you had a huge lineup of ships. The biggest reason I came back to give it another try was because it's now on steam AND it's easy to link your steam to the wargaming account now as well, making life a lot easier. Since I never cared much for pvp ever since I left my teens, I ended up dropping WoWs and occasionally checking back in, well I just happened to return about 3 weeks or so ago and was happy to see that PVE Operations with new maps and spawns / objective adjusted depending on the player tiers, with bots added to backfill empty slots below tier 6 so that you can still enjoy low tier ships you'd like to revisit. They've also added an a-symmetric mode where it's 5 players vs 10 or 12 bots or something in a "regular" match, but the bots are a lower tier, so it's a decent comp-stomp mode. I do feel like the monetization has gotten really heavy since I've last visited, premiums cost a lot, there's now gambling for each event as well and the Blue Archive event (which I was happy to see) was also quite expensive, for the heck of it I did gamble a bit and got lucky and there's also a pity and compensation system, so as a low-spender the system is acceptable if you just tip your toes, don't go all in, it's not worth it. I've had some good interactions with the community, but they're the minority most of the time you'll be like "What the F is bro doing?" as they get themselves killed or sail straight past the health regen team buff, but the majority of people are salty whiners, especially in pvp, the moment they die they'll make sure the entire team knows it due to their barrage of whining and tears. Luckily you can turn off the entire chat system, but will still be able to communicate with the quick commands system, which cuts out a lof of the salt and is also localized for other players who have different language clients installed. Highly recommended to preserve your sanity. A small side note I appreciate; even though I'm currently on a 4K monitor, I do still have my ultrawide monitor and this game actually natively supports proper ultrawide, not just a cheap fisheye effect, just adjust your FOV accordingly and boom, you've got a super immersive experience! If you can ignore the heavy monetization, just take the free handouts and get stuff for free by playing (from events, getting rarer currencies to slowly acquire premium ships or like now there's a seasonal holiday convoy allowing you to earn several tier 8/9/10 premium ships just by playing 5 missions per day) then I think there's a good game here, just don't engage with the toxic community and don't go too wild with your wallet, especially don't go buying high tiers straight away like a wallet warrior, not just your team but also you yourself will suffer as you don't know how to play that class at that tier yet. As always; better with friends or a nice clan.
