This was my first game in the genre of "send small squads of your OCs to die in horrific circumstances" and and as a certified OC torturer, I'm quite satisfied. I would recommend playing the game once without War of the Chosen enabled, then doing a playthrough with it. The base game is good on its own, but WotC overhauls enough systems that you'll appreciate it more if you play without it first. Do note that most mods are designed to work with either the base game or WotC, not both -- keep an eye on that in the Steam workshop. If you are downloading a lot of mods or are unsure which mods are for which version of the game, consider using AML2 ("Alternative Mod Launcher") which you can find on GitHub. That being said, the in-game mod manager is good enough for most people. This game previously suffered from Crappy Publisher-Specific Launcher Syndrome, but the 2K launcher has since been removed.

Saw this game on steam sale, played a few hours as repacked, then played the same time again but this time after buying. Absolutely hooked - 18hrs in 2 days AND YOU ARE TELLING ME THIS WAS RELEASED TEN YEARS AGO ?!?!?!?!?! GONNA FEEL NOSTALGIC ABOUT THIS TEN YEARS FROM NOW. Absolutely timeless !!

There is no game on the planet like Xcom 2 there may never be another Nostalgia is a trap, but Xcom 2 lives in each and every one of us. Cherish it, hold it tight, until time pulls your interest toward the sweeter fruits that modern game-making has to offer. The bar has been set, now lets see what can meet it.

Xcom 2 story continues after Xcom 1, and it offers one the best experience as turn-based tactical games. Commander difficulty and above are challenging even for experienced players, especially on Ironman. There are a lot of replay value and very fun to try different team combinations. The achievements requires 4-5 runs to complete. The most difficult one in my opinion is the Ironman Commander+ achievement. Legendary difficulty, Speedruns Commander+ and Ironman Commander+ runs are better to be in separate runs to avoid unnecessary stress. Every run takes about 20-50 hours. DLCs are essential for the full experience as the WOTC expansion add quite a lot of contents. Gold medals in legacy operations are more obtainable on the nightmare difficulty. WOTC and legacy operations DLCs are required for all achievements. Special thanks to Robin again for helping with the multiplayer achievement. The multiplayer achievement is still obtainable today using the beta version and Robin has a guide on this. The base game can freeze or crash at times. Enable the ZIP mode helps to reduce the issue but won't eliminate it. When playing with WOTC DLC, I never encountered similar issues. The game is not recommended on Steam deck. It draws battery and burns the deck even on the lowest graphic setting. The freeze and crash happens as well.
