There is no game on the planet like Xcom 2 there may never be another Nostalgia is a trap, but Xcom 2 lives in each and every one of us. Cherish it, hold it tight, until time pulls your interest toward the sweeter fruits that modern game-making has to offer. The bar has been set, now lets see what can meet it.

Decided to come back to the game... Saw a lot of negative recent reviews... ---- "Small" rant ---- People complaining about recent EULA changes, so I decided to check. They haven't changed XCOM 2's EULA for nearly than 6 years, since July 13, 2019 to be exact...at least on Steam. As soon as you open the game, you have to accept the new one from February 2025, you can opt out, but then you can't log in for multiplayer......does anyone still play multiplayer? Anyway, you list one EULA on the store, then a different one on the "product"...I don't think that's legal, even in US. And the information they collect...I don't even provide half of it and they can't force me to, at least where I live. Finally, if you're worried about arbitration, the 2019 version already restricts you to it.....why worry now? Send them the opt-out letter sooner next time... ---- END ---- As for the game, it's a pretty solid XCOM title. I find they have a little too much "timed" stuff, but that's my opinion. Also, Steam Workshop mods and Nexus mods work just fine...

Xcom 2 story continues after Xcom 1, and it offers one the best experience as turn-based tactical games. Commander difficulty and above are challenging even for experienced players, especially on Ironman. There are a lot of replay value and very fun to try different team combinations. The achievements requires 4-5 runs to complete. The most difficult one in my opinion is the Ironman Commander+ achievement. Legendary difficulty, Speedruns Commander+ and Ironman Commander+ runs are better to be in separate runs to avoid unnecessary stress. Every run takes about 20-50 hours. DLCs are essential for the full experience as the WOTC expansion add quite a lot of contents. Gold medals in legacy operations are more obtainable on the nightmare difficulty. WOTC and legacy operations DLCs are required for all achievements. Special thanks to Robin again for helping with the multiplayer achievement. The multiplayer achievement is still obtainable today using the beta version and Robin has a guide on this. The base game can freeze or crash at times. Enable the ZIP mode helps to reduce the issue but won't eliminate it. When playing with WOTC DLC, I never encountered similar issues. The game is not recommended on Steam deck. It draws battery and burns the deck even on the lowest graphic setting. The freeze and crash happens as well.

XCOM 2 with the mod 'Long War of the Chosen' is a grand monolith of a complex of turn-based game, with incredible strategic depth this is a theorycrafters dream. If you've never played before, I recommend jumping straight in with one the below LWOTC collections (on the easiest difficulty) and expect to have your ass handed to you for a few hundred hours in the most entertaining way. Im an old man that lost the ability to sit down and play games without loosing interest. This one though, Ive really become fond of. Even though its exciting in its way you can lean back and control almost all of it with only the mouse and when the family comes by to disturb you nothing will happen while you attend to them. Five out of five old man farts
