This is the first game I have ever 100% completed in my ENTIRE LIFE. All collectibles, all achievements. I just wanted to live in Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom for as long as possible (and I still think I'll go back). This game is the zany, Banjo-Kazooie-meets-Crazy-Taxi, tongue-in-cheek, complete labor of love that I didn't know I needed in my life until now. Play this game for a unique experience you won't get anywhere else!

Welp, I have 100%'d this game. I don't usually complete all the achievements but this game was worth it. It wasn't difficult to do it either. I really enjoyed it too. YTGV is a great love letter to the N64 era of games, Crazy Taxi, and Super Mario Sunshine. An all around fun collectathon!

The best platformer of 2024 no question. Honestly fantastic game all around. Great artstyle and amazing music, with just enough challenge. There is a learning curve but its extremely satisfying once the mechanics "click". Highly highly recommended.

Despite this game's overtly silly appearance, It's actually an extremely well made collect-a-thon with some rather complicated & tech-based movement. Highly recommended if you want a N64-style collect-a-thon that doesn't have a serious bone in its body.

I honestly don't know how to start writing this, so I suppose I'll start with a comparison. I think the game Yellow Taxi reminds me the most of is Celeste. Now, Taxi doesn't have a deeply personal story, it's also in 3D, but there are two things that make it feel like a darling indie game: a dash move that's used for basically every obsticle, and some hidden tricks that the game tells you about later. Yellow Taxi also feels like a bit of a newbie-friendly precision platromer, where hard platforming is very much there, but is relegated to optional parts. I think my experience with this game can be divided into two parts: before I knew about the tricks and after. Before is a bit of a miserable experience. You do control a car, and this means no jump button and tank controls. It's a really hard game to wrap your head around at first, especially as you keep getting dropped into levels that clearly have something more that you can never reach, making you feel like you're playing badly. Thankfully, this only lasts for a very short time. As soon as the game outright tells you about various tricks you can do using one single action button, the game opens up and its movement becomes amazing! There IS, in fact, a jump button of sorts, and much, much more! A lot of Yellow Taxi feels like a puzzle. The game gives you something out of reach, and asks you to get it. Half the collectible green gears I'm not sure if I've even gotten the intended way, and that freedom feels fantastic! That said, considering it's a 3D platformer that puts a lot of emphasis on dashing from ramps, there are sometimes unintended physics hiccups where you don't really know what you did wrong. The game feels like it knows this, so checkpoints are plentiful. That said, sometimes they feel strange. The game can auto checkpoint you somewhere despite the fact that you've touched the flag and went on exploring. The castle level for me had this issue at its worst: I've touched the flag on the roof, but wanted to dash around the spires. I fell, of course, and decided to die. However, the game respawned me close to the bottom of the level? Weird. But I can absolutely feel like this auto checkpoint system also saved me a lot of trouble when I didn't notice, so I'd say it's more of a good thing. The game is big! It's a full fledged 3D platformer that'll likely take you about 10 hours to fully beat. I didn't complete it 100% yet, but I was surprised with the amount of secrets, levels, and even secret levels it has! The levels are all unique and fun, although I don't quite get why half of them have a Crazy Taxi gimmick of having a timer and passengers you can pick up. It's not a bad thing or anything, just weird. The timer's easy enough to get to like 5 minutes so you have plenty of time to not do taxi missions, it just feels like a strange gimmick that isn't realized fully. Thankfully it also isn't unfun, so whatever. I feel like this game will especially resonate with speedrunners and sequence-breakers. If you love that, you will adore this game. It truly feels like it takes Mario 64's mechanics but applies them on a much grander scale, and making a jump so good that you soar through half the map feels just so, so good! The presentation and story of the game can be a bit hit-or-miss with constant jokey and sometimes a bit of a gross-out atmosphere, but I think it all fits together. It's very Pizza Tower-y in that regard where a level about shit just kinda fits in the style. I love this game. It has issues, but the devs have crafted such a unique and fun take on platforming that every weird checkpoint issue (like when I quit the game in the middle of the final boss and had to replay an entire level which was actually two levels) just disappears when I actually play the game.
