I am having a blast. What a crazy game! It is a true tower defense game, which I like, but the array of towers is large, as are the upgrades. The monsters look cool, though sadly have no animation. This really doesn't hurt the game any. There is something akin to pathing, as you get to build the maze, in bits and pieces as the game progresses, and you get to add barriers, which is where you place your towers. You do have to be careful that you can maintain a path however, a mistake I have made several times. As you place the spawners and your base, if you accidentally cut off the long path you may have created, you will have to place the spawners closer to your base than you would have liked! The game also has several types of upgrades which require careful consideration as to which tower to add it to. I have only defeated difficulty level zero, so there is, I assume, a lot of game left, and I am looking forward to it. NOTE: The games default language is Mandarin (or Cantonese, not sure which) there is a comment in the discussion that explains how to change it to English. This could easily cause upset if unaware! ADDENDUM: Fifteen hours deeper into the game, and still loving it. One point that might be important to you, a lot hangs on the luck of the draw, what towers you pull, what upgrades you get. Not that there isn't still a lot of impact to your decisions, but some people might not enjoy the randomness. Me, I am still loving this game. ADDENDUM: over fifty hours in, still loving it. Every time I think I am reaching the end, I try a new mode of play and it gets fun again. ADDENDUM: 180 some odd hours for me to beat all the levels. So much fun. Cannot recommend enough.
Picked it up on sale, for that it's definitely worth the price. I've been enjoying it apart from the fact I really don't like the music and everything just feels a little meek - the game really needs some decent music and sound effects to give the towers more of a punchy feel as a lot of the towers just feel a bit "meh". However even with that, it's still pretty good. Not sure I'd pay the normal price of 8 uk dollaroos when sale ends, but at the price I got it for it's definitely worth it. Most of the towers are pretty weak until you get higher level towers or upgrade multiple towers into entirely new towers. The upgrading part is a nice mechanic. I like being able to make the path for the mobs to take, but you don't get those every round, so it's not as path builder-y as some other TD games I've played. Although I've just beat difficulty 2 (or maybe an update happened) and the plain map now has things to build on and interact with, which makes it more interesting too.
Very decent tower defense. Although it has a little trouble balancing the weapons - like a lot of other tower defense games -, the rng does somewhat mitigate this. The different kinds of modifiers really makes things interesting, and, in that sense, its roguelite aspects shine. Replayability is good. For non-Chinese speakers, you will find the instructions to change the language in the Steam discussions. The translation is a little challenging, at times, but just a little patience will see you through. Because this game relies heavily on numbers, it's annoying to find that the spawned monsters' hp doesn't always match what's promised, even though there are no modifiers active. I'm not sure why this is but it makes planning at higher difficulties unreliable, so you really just need to look at how far the monsters get each round, and base your expectations off the relative promised hp.
Pleasantly crunchy. I did not find the alternate game modes to be very interesting/gameplay-expanding, so for me this was an exercise in repeating the same 30-stage exercise in 7 increasingly difficult installments and then calling it quits. For the amount of mechanical complexity on offer, it was actually quite intuitive to get into and understand all the concepts, which is impressive considering the clunky translation.
