i would like to say that i absolutely loved this game because i am a SUCKER for any reimari content (especially that of the angsty variety) but unfortunately it wasnt exactly the greatest. starting on a positive note, the music is great and the art is adorable. i also liked the touch of how when reimu walks w/ you, she appears in the pause menu! and after marisa kills herself, the pause menu is empty the IDEA of the story is actually pretty good and managed to get me choked up a few times during some of the more heartfelt moments, but alot of the execution was pretty poor...,,, the high moments (particularly the bathing scene (no not for fan service i thought it was cute i am not a freak like dat,), confession, and reimu telling marisa the truth) were very cute and tear-jerking, though. i think one of my smaller complaints about the game is the fact that alot of the actual 'gameplay' is walking around and fetching things and then heading back to a location to complete some pseudo-quest to collect mushrooms or lilies or whatever, which is all fine and good if it werent for the fact that there are at least three of those throughout the game all with the overall same gameplay behind them. they somewhat felt like they were just there to pad the game (insert mandatory sakuya joke) time but its not a huge bother. my actual biggest problem about the game is how in one of the final moments that the two spend together, the game decides to totally 180 the tone and make them have sex literally hours before reimu dies. it was amusing but i dont know if that was exactly fitting for the tone at that point of the game. but atleast marisa got game before she and reimu died lmao another small thing to close this off i think the ending could've been executed better. i liked the idea of marisa being so hopelessly in love that she decided to end it just to see reimu again, but it felt very rushed by that time. i actually somewhat forgot that the entire game was basically a flash-back and that marisa was in the middle of eating an apple, so the sudden cut back to the present was mildly jarring. it does make sense that marisa's had plenty of time to sulk in her despair from when the fb ends to the present but i think a bit more dialogue to ease the reader back into the setting would've done some good. the implied sex that happens like not even 40 dialog boxes prior also kinda soils on the tone a lil. spoiler free tl;dr: good concept, mediocre execution, random fanservice that bashes with the tone, and some annoying fetch quests scattered throughout. either way. the game is only 1 buck (half of that if its on sale) and its a good read if you can overlook its shortcomings, so i recommend it regardless.
what the hell????? why marisa is the only normal supporter here, while reimu's 'friends' were telling her that dying is part of her duty and her bare minimum?? There's literally no compassion from side characters and that was making me extremely mad througut the game. I was hoping for good ending until the end, but doomed yuri was waiting me here like a trap... 9/10.

Now I’m seeing the person underneath.” That shift is inherently compelling. This game raises more of a philosophical question than just a simple story—maybe even a moral warning—about how love can consume you when it becomes too absolute. It touches on ideas like what happens after death and the tragedy of cutting your life short instead of continuing to live with that loss. Overall, it’s a bittersweet but genuinely powerful story. I don’t usually enjoy visual novels or retro RPG-style games, but this one really grabbed me. A big part of that was the mystery and the soundtrack. I avoided spoilers and even though, thematically, the arc might feel familiar if you’ve seen similar “tragic romance” narratives, the way it played out was still fresh. As a newcomer, it was a unique experience. I also think it’s really strong for hardcore Touhou fans because it adds a whole new emotional depth to these characters I grew up with. Normally, they’re just these bold, funny girls battling monsters, but here, they’re placed into grounded, human situations. That contrast, taking these larger-than-life characters and showing their fragility adds a new layer. It made them feel more real, like they had a life beyond their battles. And that’s what made it so fascinating as a Touhou fan seeing them respond to serious things like real people. At the same time, I kept asking myself what the moral of the story was supposed to be. The ending, especially, really hit me. One character chooses to follow the other into death, and while it’s emotionally powerful, it left me uneasy. I kept thinking: you still have so much time left, why throw it all away? What about all the experiences you still could have had? That’s why, even though it was bittersweet and beautiful, I didn’t fully enjoy it in a traditional sense. I respected the emotional impact, but I disagreed with the final choice. The game makes you feel loss before you even have a chance to process it, and I think that’s why it lingers in my head. Ultimately, it’s a story that feels more like an experience of grief, rather than a lesson about how to handle it, but that’s probably why it stayed with me. Overall: I didn’t fully agree with where it ended, but I felt it deeply, and it made me think about it long after.
