THIS GAME IS SO UNDERRATED, i started this game not knowing anything about it. and oh my god?? the music, art, plot, characters, voice acting, visuals, EVERYTHING was so beautiful. i didnt expect to sob like a baby by the endings. The game is so meaningful even if theres some mistranslations. i learned a lot from this game, "Limited" is the most romantic design of life. I also did not expect to love the widow more than the female lead LMAO, every route was so good!

If I could give this a mixed review instead of positive, I would. Lay a Beauty to Rest is not the masterpiece that The Hungry Lamb is (the dev's more recent game), but despite being rough around the edges and badly translated it still has something to offer. That said, if you haven't played it already, go play The Hungry Lamb instead. Then come back and play this game if you're hungry for more. The English translation is not the worst, being at least mostly understandable, but it is quite bad and clearly done by a translation program without the supervision of an actual English speaker. The game launches in Chinese, and after blindly finding the setting to change it, you're greeted by broken grammar and some UI elements that are STILL in Chinese. Prepositions are hardly ever correct, the tense is inconsistent, pronouns are often messed up too, and some words with slightly different meanings are translated the same. Some of my favourite lines include: "People are happy because of change, not because of change." and "He looks quite honest and honest" The story is good and has some very interesting elements, but the routes are a bit over complicated and repetitive. Personally, I would have appreciated a greater focus on romance with the main girl Shuang Hua instead of so many boring alternate routes. There are also some plot holes in both the main game and DLC... For example (spoilers): Why exactly do visitors have to go through the road of fire to leave? It's established that Shuang Hua created the Peach Blossom Spring herself after taking the elixir, right? So who created the road of fire, and why doesn't she have control over it? And for the DLC (spoilers again): How do the girls have different appearances in the same body? Qing He originally appears younger, described as around 14 years old, while Yan is described as looking around 16. In the base game, Qing He's appearance remains consistent at around 14 after leaving the cave, but in the DLC Yan (who is supposed to be sharing the same body) is described as appearing 16 again?? Also, why did they imagine each other to be internet friends at the start of the DLC, when at the end Yan admits that she already knew Qing He was her sister and how they came to share her body? The art is good, but slightly inconsistent. Different characters are clearly done by different artists or with slightly different methods, and sprites for side characters are often left unchanged despite not matching the context of a scene. Especially for the night versions. Despite that, this game offers some absolutely incredible scenes and CGs, especially featuring the main girl Shuang Hua. The UI is wonky at best, and can be annoying at times. For example, the quick menu is randomly disabled during a short few scenes, and there are also some scenes where the devs tried to put an emphasis on the text by making the text speed incredibly slow and unskippable, but it just had the opposite effect by being annoying. I can only assume that the slow unskippable text speed worked better in Chinese, because it absolutely sucks in English. I also encountered a bug where I could accidentally drag around the background if I clicked through certain transitions, and the backgrounds would be misaligned on the screen from then on. Overall though, this game was still quite enjoyable and had some pretty impactful moments. This story could be much more accessible if only it had a better translation and UI, so I really hope the devs give it a proper update at some point. They've already proven that they can do it with The Hungry Lamb, and it would raise my verdict on Lay a Beauty to Rest from mixed to the positive rating I was forced to give it by Steam.

Foreword: I was prejudiced in buying Lay a Beauty to Rest: The Darkness Peach Blossom Spring, the translation to English felt sketchy but the game having so many positive reviews piqued my curiosity. Aesthetics: The first thing that hits hard is the well-written story, mixed with interesting characters. You are a detective who goes through a cave and enters a mysterious Chinese medieval village. To avoid spoilers I will not elaborate further but I repeat, the story is amazing. The novel is somewhat short. The visuals are excellent and the soundtrack is great. Functionality: The game is split into a common route where decisions improve or lower the affinity of the characters or lead to a dead end. At the end of the common route is a branching path where depending on the choice chosen you go on a character-specific route. Finishing all other endings unlocks the true end. There is a feature called Organization which will be your best friend while hunting for specific endings or achievements. The translation is not perfect it still has meaning and works. It's just that the form and choice of words feel weird, like for example using the word “Organization” to describe the roadmap. The game is very well optimized. Enjoyment: I had a lot of fun with this visual novel, I am glad my curiosity got the better of me. Conclusion: I am so happy I gave this visual novel a chance, it was worth every penny. Other Notes: None at the moment.

Came for a dating sim, ended up murdering an entire immortal village , great game. Also reincarnated as a livestock goat a couple dozens of times... not so great. I'm glad that I went blind into this game because the Steam description is a bit spoilery, hence I recommend doing this as well in order to experience all the "surprises" while playing. This game has a unique plot which I really enjoyed, the beginning was already intriguing though seemed to be going into a somewhat basic direction but as the story progressed, it twisted into something very interesting and quite unique. I loved how this game combines the modern and ancient worlds and overall I found the entire setting great. It's a beautiful mystery story with a lovely message, the art, music, high-quality voice acting and atmosphere are flawless too and make it even more emotional. Now what I found disappointing is that several character routes end up with identical results instead of more diverse endings. Technically it makes sense lore-wise but for a few routes there was a small amount of new dialogue but the majority of the route was just the same as of a few others, without new ending. However there still is a good amount of various endings and I really enjoyed them for how different they are, the main issue was rather with how the routes of some side characters were handled. Nonetheless I still found the characters nice and likable, so that's the main reason I wished for everyone to get more screentime and development. After all there is still a vast amount of lore to explore and I loved learning about it. I just wished to see more of the protagonist's backstory and more content in some endings. Probably the objectively biggest issue with the game is the translation. If I had to explain it, the main problem is that plenty of sentences are simply grammatically incomplete. For example: "Why do you think that?" would be translated into: "Why think that?" or instead of "I've been running for too long" there is "Running (for) too long". So basically prounouns and any conjugation of the verb "to be" are often missing. Though it actually didn't bother me much since I still found everything understandable and just saw it as a "simplified" version of english lol, I still think it's important to mention that. I definitely recommend this, unless you enjoy hiking in unknown places .
