This game is my entire life. I have written fanfiction about it. It played a role in how I met my boyfriend two years ago. I use it with some of my students (ages 8-10) to develop their logical thinking. After 1142 hours, I have finally unlocked ultimate mode. I cannot describe the feelings I am feeling right now. Honestly, I am a bit emotional. It's been like three years since I first downloaded this. I have a good 300+ hours on the second one too, but this one has a special place in my heart. I use it to calm my brain after stressful days. It's what inspired me to start coding again. I don't think this game is for everyone, but it is an incredible game. Life-changing, one might even say. To quote the dating profile bio that got my now boyfriend to reach out to me over two years ago: 'i am currently obsessed with this steam game called 14 minesweeper variants. it delivers exactly what it promises. iconic.' Thank you, whoever made this. You've made at least one autistic man very very happy.

The title literally says what you'll find here: 14 Minesweeper variants. Let's not count the extras and the combinations and whatever else. Unlike usual Minesweeper, every puzzle is designed to have a logical solution. You won't need to guess, and in fact, the game will punish you for guessing. (If you try to click a cell that cannot be logically deducible, the game will re-arrange the mines to make your click wrong.) So this is in a similar vein as HexCells and Tametsi. What differentiates it is, of course, the variants. This game doesn't go to huge grids like the other games I mentioned above; the largest grid size is 8x8. But it comes with 14 variants; 7 of them are structural variants, the other 7 change what a clue means. Later on, you also unlock combinations: one structural variant and one clue variant, each clue can come from a different variant, etc. Each set (variant/size combination) in the puzzle comes with around 100 puzzles. All of them are computer-assisted, which is somewhat unfortunate. If you're looking for a beautiful key logical idea, you won't find it in these puzzles. However, the puzzles are curated to make sure they make use of the variant rules, so doing many puzzles in a set will teach you new general deductions for the variant, similar to how you can learn Minesweeper patterns like 1-2-1 along an edge. To further emphasize you don't need to full clear a set, nothing in the game requires you to clear all 100 puzzles; at worst you just need to clear 10 of them. The game presentation is extremely basic; you can say it's "art-less", true to the developer's name. But that's good, because you can then focus on the puzzles. It also comes with a note-taking function, letting you draw on top of the grid, which is incredible for the more difficult puzzles. If you liked HexCells, or even if you didn't like HexCells, this is an easy recommend.

My 2025 Game of the Year, a steal for $7. All the puzzles can be solved logically, the variants are unique and there are even some extras thrown in. I look forward to playing other games that the developer designs.

Would you believe it if I told you there's more than 14 variants? An excellent game which combines creative puzzle designs with endless variation and good ergonomics. I absolutely love the system that both punishes you for incorrect guesses and simultaneously provides good hints. Even if you're not hooked, if you do maybe one puzzle a week it's still worth the price. I think the philosophy of being 'artless' sometimes actually means that the graphic design is poor -- for example having white highlight on a white square -- but this is somewhat forgivable. Don't let the style lead you to thinking this isn't a game made with care!

One of the nerdiest experiences out there, but it's excellent, all the puzzles are very satisfying. Frustrating at times, but you know it's a skill issue, and technically there's hints if you want it (but why buy the game if you plan to use the hints?). No idea how the coding behind this works, but it must be crazy to mathematically ensure solutions with just enough information given to the player... insane stuff
