I have never played a game that so clearly conveys the complete and utter loss that comes with the absolute inability to communicate your thoughts and feelings. The way it's addressed through not only language but also your own understanding is honestly inspired and an incredible work of art. tl;dr one of the greatest pieces of media I've ever consumed

I bought this game after seeing someone recommend it on TikTok—it sounded like it had a really interesting premise. (Unfortunately, I don’t remember the creator’s name.) No spoilers here, but the general idea is that you wake up with a form of amnesia and have seven days to piece together what’s happening and understand the world around you. When you first wake up, you’re greeted by a woman who helps you make sense of things. At first, the game feels similar to a visual novel, but it’s more than that. You can walk around the house, interact with objects, and, if the woman is following you, she’ll comment on them. A unique mechanic allows you to click on words in dialogue bubbles and type in what you think they mean based on context. These definitions are saved in a ‘dictionary’ that carries over between playthroughs. As you progress, new words are added when you hear them in conversations, and you can edit your definitions at any time. Even if you piece together the right words, fully grasping what’s happening can still be tricky. The simplicity of the dialogue adds to this—whether by design or as a reflection of the player character’s limited understanding. A single playthrough takes anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. I’ve gone through the story 20+ times, trying to unravel everything. There are multiple endings, but when you reach the true ending, you’ll know. For me, things started to feel significantly darker around the 15-hour mark—there was a shift in my understanding of the story that made it feel much grimmer than before. That might just be my experience, but I do feel that players who stop after five hours might miss a lot of the deeper narrative layers.

Only three hours in and it's been so much fun. As a linguistic enthusiast this game scratches my brain in a very good way. If you love solving puzzles, deciphering messages, and making abstract connections paired with a mysterious story, I would highly recommend the game! I'll make an update when I get nearing to "finishing" the game. Update: Roughly 12 hours into the game, and have discovered most of the words meanings. I have to say the biggest source of enjoyment is when you start to begin to understand the dialogue between the characters while looking back and seeing how far you have come. I would love to have the opportunity to try this game out again with a blank slate again!

It was an interesting concept to have to decipher the language your self, so I wanted to give it a go. I enjoyed it and I recommend you try it if you are interested. Multiple endings but there doesn't seem to be any way to track which ones you got. Would be nice to see that added. Even if its just via achievements or something.

A very flawed and beautiful game. The entire point of the game is frustration that you can't make sense of basic language. You'll spend the lion's share of the game just trying to fill out your dictionary to give meaning to the dialogue; the game is super short and the dictionary carries over between each play through. It also has an excellent interface that is not nearly as confusing as it sounds it would be. A catch-22 concept, because it's doomed to be too short to stretch it's wings to give all the work put in it's proper payout without forcing superfluous vocabulary. This gives way too many words such limited usage that you'll be mostly guessing, a fact acknowledged and celebrated by the opening of the game. This also means when you've hit your personal bedrock of logic and vocabulary, and inevitably crack open the steam-guides dictionary piggy bank you will find more layers of context to the story; either a pro or a con depending on how you view external information. The story is incredibly simple, and in retrospect there are so few lines of dialogue that I feel tricked by it having such an emotional impact on me, but something about needing to piece it together yourself in the most literal sense made it very impactful. This isn't a game I'll ever be able to play again, but I feel like I'll think about a lot.
