Let me start off by saying it's a nice game. It's a very nice and short game, but there are some issues with it. 1) The game is translated into English - and while this normally wouldn't be an issue, it becomes a slight issue when the game is about language and about deciphering ciphers. 2) The gameplay is a bit repetitive, and once you've learned certain words, there's no incentive to do certain stuff 3) The advertisement oversells the game. I was under the impression that learning more words would drastically shift the story and how I interacted with it and that was very much not true lol. Like, even when you unlock the secret room and walk in with the girl, she just tells you what the things are for and that's it lol. 4) The game doesn't really tell you what to do, apart from "learn words". There is an event and a room that you can easily miss if you don't consult the guides. Speaking of guides: They are very helpful, and there are spoiler-free versions that I'd recommend checking out. The game is not good at giving you the information that you need, and most guides will have an introductory bit that covers those. Here's what I'd tell someone trying it for the first time: 1- Its caveman speak. Don't go into it expecting full sentences and grammar. 2- The letters are not consistent between words, but they are consistent within each word. 3- You can leave the girl at the table to explore the house on your own. 4- In the alchemy room, there is a little safe that you can enter a codeword in. That is a good tool to see the whole alphabet, and also to identify each individual letter. 5- Remembering the previous instances of the use of a word is very helpful. 6- Words that are put close to each other on the word list are similar to each other/express similar concepts. 7- There are some words who only appear once or twice, and you might have to consult a guide on those and that's okay. Same with a couple words that got a bit weird in translation. Like Punishment being the same as Sin 8- Dreams are there to teach you some words. If you choose the correct option it will say "Yes, it meant something like this" remember to record them in your wordbook. Overall, its a bit less than I expected, but hey, cool game, cool concept, and if you're also a language/cipher nerd you might like it. I'll give it a tentative 7/10

I have never played a game that so clearly conveys the complete and utter loss that comes with the absolute inability to communicate your thoughts and feelings. The way it's addressed through not only language but also your own understanding is honestly inspired and an incredible work of art. tl;dr one of the greatest pieces of media I've ever consumed

Only three hours in and it's been so much fun. As a linguistic enthusiast this game scratches my brain in a very good way. If you love solving puzzles, deciphering messages, and making abstract connections paired with a mysterious story, I would highly recommend the game! I'll make an update when I get nearing to "finishing" the game. Update: Roughly 12 hours into the game, and have discovered most of the words meanings. I have to say the biggest source of enjoyment is when you start to begin to understand the dialogue between the characters while looking back and seeing how far you have come. I would love to have the opportunity to try this game out again with a blank slate again!

It was an interesting concept to have to decipher the language your self, so I wanted to give it a go. I enjoyed it and I recommend you try it if you are interested. Multiple endings but there doesn't seem to be any way to track which ones you got. Would be nice to see that added. Even if its just via achievements or something.

A very flawed and beautiful game. The entire point of the game is frustration that you can't make sense of basic language. You'll spend the lion's share of the game just trying to fill out your dictionary to give meaning to the dialogue; the game is super short and the dictionary carries over between each play through. It also has an excellent interface that is not nearly as confusing as it sounds it would be. A catch-22 concept, because it's doomed to be too short to stretch it's wings to give all the work put in it's proper payout without forcing superfluous vocabulary. This gives way too many words such limited usage that you'll be mostly guessing, a fact acknowledged and celebrated by the opening of the game. This also means when you've hit your personal bedrock of logic and vocabulary, and inevitably crack open the steam-guides dictionary piggy bank you will find more layers of context to the story; either a pro or a con depending on how you view external information. The story is incredibly simple, and in retrospect there are so few lines of dialogue that I feel tricked by it having such an emotional impact on me, but something about needing to piece it together yourself in the most literal sense made it very impactful. This isn't a game I'll ever be able to play again, but I feel like I'll think about a lot.
