The automatic camera movements can occasionally feel restrictive, and the inability to freely rotate or see far into the distance gets a bit annoying when you want to scope out the terrain. But overall, it is manageable, and you get used to it in 30 minutes. Time & Achievements? 6.8 hrs to 100%. The story could be done in 1.5 to 3 hrs depending on your pace. Out of 12, 10 are missable/extra achievements, and you can keep going after you complete the story. You'll need a guide or an interactive map for some extra achievements, as it is easy to get lost on what to get where. But remember, these extra achievements are a lot of fun; try them out. Final Verdict Even with the camera movement quirks, A Short Hike is easily one of the best cozy games ever made. It’s short, sweet, and fills you with a profound sense of warmth and accomplishment. Most games give you a mountain because something terrible is waiting at the top. A Short Hike gives you one because Claire needs cell reception. That's about as urgent as things get. You arrive at Hawk Peak Provincial Park with one real objective: reach the summit. Nobody particularly cares when you do it. Instead, you can swim, fish, climb, dig for treasure, help strangers with remarkably minor problems, or spend twenty minutes collecting golden feathers for a climb that probably did not need that many. Getting distracted is the game. Hawk Peak is small enough that you quickly start recognizing its paths and people, but dense enough that wandering off usually turns up something worth finding. As you gather feathers, climbing gets easier and gliding back down becomes half the reason to go up. Nobody needs saving, there is no ancient evil under the mountain, and the gentle soundtrack makes the whole place feel like a childhood vacation you somehow remember despite never having taken it. A Short Hike takes considerably longer to stop thinking about than to finish. For a game about getting enough signal to make a phone call, it is remarkably good at making you want to stay somewhere with none.
This game is pure comfort. Every time I thought I was ready to head toward the summit, I'd spot another trail to explore, another character to talk to, or another little collectible that pulled me in a different direction. I never felt rushed because exploring was just as rewarding as reaching the destination. The dialogue made me smile, the soundtrack was relaxing, and the whole game felt like a warm cup of coffee on a quiet morning. It's short, but it never feels like it's missing anything. By the time I reached the top, I wasn't ready for it to end. If you're looking for a cozy game that lets you slow down for a couple of hours, this one is absolutely worth the hike.
