One of the better received amongst recently released beat them up games... This one has better depth in the gameplay, game progression and story than traditional beat them up games like the ninja turtle, streets of rage, river city girls series of games. But also it's a roguelike, so most likely you won't beat the game on your first playthrough... On the other hand it ensures that you get more value from longetivity due to that game progression system, also that this game has a harder true ending challenge that as of this writing I haven't reached yet. Graphics is very nice, I dare say better than streets of rage 4... And as usual there's no ultrawide 21:9 support out of the box but unlike most other games in the genre, there's a mod that added it for this game, do that is in a way for players like me a plus. Highly recommended if you're a fan of the beat them up genre.
This game was a very pleasant surprise I expect to find it being just a pretty god beatemup game, and what I got was surprisingly heart felt. The story is pretty straight forward. Evil guy is slowly killing the land and you have to stop him. Being a chosen wizard by an ancient goddess you can be revied after death thus the roguelike nature. Where the game succeeds from a narrative standpoint is the characters, and not just the 4 main playable characters. Stories of grief, loss, and identity are woven throughout. I think by in large the game handles this very well. The game play is largely very good with a couple of really big draw backs. First the good. You've got a heavy attack, light attack, special (Which is unique to each character), and whatever power they choose to start the run with (There's 6 for each character to choose from.) Then much like in Hades you can gather the power of the goods that can alter all of these things. I think the system is really pretty good. It has nice variety and allows you to do some exploration during each run with how you want to play. The two main draw backs are this. Because the games beatemup esq style there are times when you'll think you're in line with an enemy only to not be exactly on the same X coordinate and you miss, an some enemies have attacks that go across the plane so they can hit you in that moment and you can't hit them. The second of which is that sometimes the timing is off. The game has two mechanics one of which is a perfect dodge and the other is a perfect block. Both of which can feel just a few frames off compared to other games. Neither of which are game breaking, but it is the one major drawback of an otherwise great game. For only a base retail of $25 I really can't recommend this game enough. It's got heart, and fun, a good art style, and a whole lot to like. If you can look past a little bit of oddities I think you'll really enjoy this. Final Grade A-
