I've never played the original so I don't have anything to compare it to but this is a fun arcade beat 'em up with a touch of late 80's, early 90's comedy and animation. Fun game with some pretty challenging areas which can get pretty aggravating.

I've been a fan since I first played it on the Genesis! It's not quite as brutal as the old school Battletoads, but mainly because of the forgiving use of checkpoints and unlimited tries of the level... I just played through it on the "battletoads" difficulty and it was plenty challenging for me and well worth a few play throughs!

Battletoads was fun. The Cutscenes were funny. The game is difficult. It was fun with friends. I liked this game. I got it for 4$CAD at some point, and I would say that it was worth that price for sure. It is so corny that it was fun.

Worst voice acting I heard in years and the humor didn't really hit it with me. But besides that pretty solid platformer. I give it a 6/10. The platforming part is 9/10 though for me.

I get the mixed reviews, but don't let it fool you. Battletoads is a great game. I can already hear you saying. "if it's such a great game. Why does it have a mixed review?" Let me explain. This was a beloved franchise during the 90's. It was gritty. Heavy metal. Bad ass. Cool. Very exaggerated expression and move sets which made it funny too because that's the kind of comedy that was popular in cartoons of that time. The part people don't tell you is that it was Incredibly difficult for no reason. Not difficult like the game was bad. Like difficult on purpose. Ok now lets talk about this version. Rare took a gamble and it seemed like it didn't pay off. This time around they took what made the originals great and toned it way down. The art style is more bright and poppy. The animations look amazing. The heavy metal is still there. They're not so cool this time around, but it's made on purpose because it fits the narrative. It's still somewhat silly and 60% of the comedy is great, but in other areas it's cringy. Like they're trying to hard. The in game voice acting is not great. The cutscenes are much better and feel closer to the original then the actual game. If this was a show I would watch it and enjoy it. All of this to say, this is a great revival. Could it have been better? Yes. I hope they keep it alive and take notes. Keep the art style and crank up the silliness.
