Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders is a thoughtful and atmospheric detective adventure that places players directly in the polished shoes of Hercule Poirot, one of crime fiction’s most iconic sleuths. Developed by Artefacts Studio and published by Microids, the game adapts Christie’s famous novel into an interactive mystery that blends point-and-click exploration, puzzle-solving, character observation, and deductive reasoning. While it remains accessible and streamlined in its mechanics, the game focuses primarily on delivering the experience of being Poirot—methodical, composed, and always attentive to the smallest clue. The story follows the classic premise: a taunting killer calling himself “A.B.C.” sends Poirot a series of letters that warn of upcoming murders. Each crime takes place in a different town, with victims chosen in alphabetical order, and the killer leaves copies of a railway guide at the scenes. This setup gives the game a strong sense of forward momentum, carrying players from one location to another as they attempt to stay one step ahead of a murderer who seems to delight in challenging Poirot personally. The narrative remains faithful enough to Christie’s writing to evoke its original charm, while the game’s interpretation of Poirot—with his composed demeanor, dry wit, and meticulous habits—feels authentic and affectionate. Gameplay is built around careful observation and deduction rather than trial-by-error puzzle chains. Players examine crime scenes for clues, interview suspects, inspect objects from multiple angles, and note subtle visual cues during character interactions. Poirot’s “Little Grey Cells” system ties the investigation together, prompting players to combine gathered information to form logical conclusions about motives, alibis, and hidden details. These segments emulate the detective’s signature analytical style and reward calm, attentive play. Additionally, crime reconstruction sequences allow you to walk through Poirot’s reasoning, piecing together timelines and verifying how events unfolded. These moments are among the game’s highlights, offering an elegant blend of narrative and interactivity. A major part of the game’s appeal lies in its distinctive visual presentation. Artefacts Studio opted for a clean, stylized cel-shaded aesthetic rather than realistic graphics, a choice that gives the game a warm, polished, slightly storybook quality. Environments—from English villages to bustling train platforms—are rendered with charming detail, and the character designs convey personality without leaning too heavily on realism. At times, however, animations can feel stiff and transitions awkward, revealing the limitations of the game’s budget. Even so, the artistic direction succeeds in creating a visually memorable and thematically consistent world that suits Poirot’s refined sensibilities. While the puzzles and investigative mechanics offer genuine engagement, the game purposely avoids overwhelming difficulty. Clues are generally easy to spot, investigations are forgiving, and the game offers subtle guidance to keep players from becoming stuck. This makes the experience more relaxed than challenging, which may disappoint those seeking intense brain-teasing, but creates a welcoming entry point for casual mystery fans. The pacing can occasionally slow as players walk between areas or listen through lengthy dialogue, and certain segments feel padded by repetitive actions. Still, the overall flow of the investigation remains smooth and satisfying. In terms of structure, The ABC Murders is relatively compact, offering a fairly linear experience that can be completed in under ten hours. While there are alternate choices and a few branching narrative moments that can influence the final evaluation of Poirot’s performance, the overall arc remains consistent from playthrough to playthrough. Replay value exists mainly for completionists or players who wish to see how different decisions shape the ending, but the game’s tightly scripted mystery lends itself more to a single polished run. Agatha Christie – The ABC Murders ultimately succeeds by delivering a faithful and engaging detective experience tailored to fans of the genre and of Christie’s work. It captures the thoughtful pacing, quiet tension, and refined atmosphere of a classic whodunit, supported by a respectful portrayal of Poirot and a mystery that remains satisfying even for those familiar with the original story. Though it lacks the mechanical complexity or depth of more modern investigative titles, its charm, accessible design, and strong narrative foundation make it an enjoyable journey for anyone eager to step into the role of a legendary detective and solve a stylish, old-fashioned murder mystery. A solid point and click mystery with a great art style, very reminiscent of Telltale's style to an extent. The puzzles are somewhat disappointing, but the choice of voice actor for Poirot is excellent he sounds very much like the man, the myth, the legend, David Suchet. I haven't read the novel, but from my distant memory of watching this murder mystery in film form, it's pretty close to the source material. If your a murder mystery enthusiast and love point and clicks this is right up your alley.

I love reading crime novels and greatly enjoyed the Sherlock Holmes games and LA Noire, so this was right up my alley! I'm happy to report that The ABC Murders hasn't disappointed me. The story is captivating and the game is fully voice acted (which was also great). The puzzles aren't too hard, but hard enough to make you feel smart for solving them. I HIGHLY recommend this game to crime and puzzle fans!

Hours Played: not nearly enough ( solving puzzles, admiring my moustache) Recommended? YES Personal Award: “Majestic Moustache” Bought this game thinking it is a calm detective story. Instead, I got Hercule Poirot sass-slapping suspects with his Belgian accent and solving crimes using 80% logic and 20% eyebrow raises. You play as Poirot, who is essentially Sherlock Holmes if Holmes had sarcasm. At one point, I spent 15 minutes trying to open a drawer because I didn't "observe it from every possible angle of the known universe." Poirot wouldn’t dare touch it until I had admired literally every molecule of the wood grain. But I can live with that. PROS: X Poirot’s voice is smoother than a Belgian chocolate truffle X The puzzles make you feel smart (until you realize you’ve been trying to use a shoehorn on a typewriter) X Elegant murder mystery vibes - no gore, just smug glances CONS: X Occasionally gets stuck in a doorframe like a gentlemanly Roomba X Poirot judges you for clicking the wrong thing .. and I felt that in my soul SUMMARY: It’s like Clue had a baby with a PBS special and raised it in a French art museum. 10/10 would accuse someone dramatically over tea again.

Had some bugs along the way that required to restart the game. But overall, fantastic adaptation.
