I am a homebrewer. I make All Grain beers/ ales and have a couple of awards for some of my stuff. That being said, I can see the effort that went into making the recipe system that is the backbone of this game. Color me moderately impressed. This game is addictive! be warned that on 3 occasions so far, I've looked at at he clock when I got to a "good stopping point" only to realize it is crazy late and I should have been in bed hours ago. Fair warning if you have job or school commitments that require you to be alert and rested... this game might make that difficult. ;) I've seen a couple of good updates so far that show the Devs are interested in what the consumers have to say and are committed to making the game better. Big kudos to them for that. Buy this game, it is fun!

Surprisingly good. The whole "beer theme" is well used to create different mecanic that allow and force you to create different beer for different reason like : - expensive dedicated recipes for competition - min max a recipe to take advantage of seasonal pricing - special orders of course -cheap or long storage beer for your monk - fast or long conservation beers and all of that of each different style of beers. Cool game but i dont like beer tho

After 75+ hours of playing, including finishing the 1.0 release, I HIGHLY recommend Ale Abbey! I've been on Steam for over 15 years and playing video games since I got an Atari 2600 for Christmas (best present ever!). Playing Ale Abbey has actually inspired me to write my very first review. There are 470+ games in my inventory so if that's not saying something, I don't know what else can. For me, Ale Abbey ranks right up there with some of my all-time favorite games from Bioware, Bethesda, and Blizzard. From the moment that I started the game up, the wonderful soundtrack captured my imagination and attention. The amazing graphics and creative play style really stood out to me. I love tycoon games and this one is truly unique and fun! I've enjoyed spending hours building my Abbey, keeping my Fermentines happy, and especially creating new ales with the highest quality I can achieve! The game balance works well so I don't have to micro-manage everything and I can focus on the aspects that are fun for me. There are plenty of things to do, but none are overwhelming. Game-play is relaxing and always has a rewarding feel of progression. This game is a labor of love from a small group of talented developers. They are attentive and engaged with the players on Steam and Discord. The community is helpful to new and old players alike. If you're on the fence, I suggest picking it up. I'm certainly glad I did! Ask for help if you need it, and it will happily be provided. I've gotten plenty of enjoyment out of Ale Abbey. I hope you do too!

Absolutely delightful management game for those even remotely interested in beers. If, however, you are like me and occasionally during endless(ly unimportant) meetings or other banalities of life you find yourself daydreaming of hopping in your car, driving for a few hours through the woods and hills of [scenic country name here] until you find a collection of vine-covered stones that used to be called an "abbey" before tomatoes were even brought to Europe, responsibly disposing of said car (by fire or otherwise), settling into said collection of stones, and starting to produce enough beer to fill all the craters on the Moon and your government's ego, then this is THE game for you. Very chill vibes, unlike other tycoons I actually preferred to play it at 1x speed listening to D&D tavern music. Early game teaches you the basics but heavily encourages you to experiment so that you develop the strategy that best suits your needs, whether it's to impress a jury that is somehow more nerdy than you about beer (everyone's a critic, said the Steam reviewer), literally drown an unsuspecting mountain village in high-quality Bohemian lager, or simply gather enough gold to finally buy a bed for father Cornelius, who even when managing to not be under the influence of the divine gift of alcohol prefers to fall asleep on the floor of the brewery, comforted by the cozy heat emanating from the sanctified brewing vessels. Later in the game money stops being a problem so you can turn your attention to finer things, such as brewing that one perfect tripel, bribing the bandits with a somehow even stronger ale, and finding out what could possibly go wrong if you just put some pumpkin in traditional Bavarian beer (I call it pumpkin spice dunkel). Yes, there are many styles of ale that you can make. Yes, each has its own personality, uses, and fancy trophy with cool benefits and even cooler visuals. Yes, I enjoy brewing all of them, even the one I "affectionately" call sewer water in real life. No, your favourite radish-infused double-creamy Tunnocks teacake twice-regurgitated South coast IPA sour is not one of them, please stop and seek help. It is tremendously pleasing to watch the monks and nuns (fermentines) go about their daily lives, which can be summarised as a healthy mix of sober work and utter shenanigans. The day-night cycle may seem strange at first but it's very useful to regulate the work/drink balance of the fermentines, as well as other game mechanics. Pros: + straight up enjoyable, I know you can read the text above and suspect you can agree with me + a healthy balance between reality and simplification regarding pretty much everything to do with brewing + you sweat a little bit in the beginning but get rewarded later on + fantastic support group on the steam forums and discord, devs are people who know what they're doing when it comes to gaming and brewing + you can adopt a goat Cons: - the goat runs away (the devs have been notified)

If I could give it a rating I would give it a neutral. My biggest gripe is that it feels far to linear. It forces you to play the game in a way that doesn't allow any creativity. You should be able to make any beer at any level assuming you get the ingredients. It just feels kinda boring the way its set up.
