People sleep on this game. Played Manor Lords before this, but Ostriv is way more in depth. Choosing where buildings gather their resources from, making storages grab from other storages. The transport logicstics are also way better. They're not going to walk to the other side of town to grab stone from the mine if there's stone stored closer. Only downside; No war-like mechanisms.

Developed primarily by a solo Ukrainian developer (yevhen8), it aims to redefine the historical management genre by focusing on organic settlement growth, realistic economic mechanics, and minute details rather than traditional grid-based mechanics. What I Liked Gridless, Organic Growth: Unlike traditional city-builders that lock you into rigid square grids, Ostriv allows freeform placement of buildings at any angle. Dynamic Desire Paths: Villagers form dirt trails organically based on their actual daily walking routes. Over time, high-traffic areas wear down into natural roads, creating a village layout that reflects how your citizens actually live and travel. Detailed Economic & Agricultural Systems: Farming requires actual crop rotation (like wheat, sunflower, hemp, and fallow fields) to maintain soil nutrients. You manage individual family finances, local market pricing, wages, and trade, making economic management feel grounded and rewarding. Atmosphere & Visual Detail: From seasonal shifts (harsh winters requiring stored firewood and fodder) to realistic construction animations where builders carry individual logs and thatch roofs, the game exudes craftsmanship and warmth. What I Disliked Steep Learning Curve & Pacing: Early-game management can be unforgiving. Mismanaging your food, financial cash flow, or seasonal workload can easily trigger a slow, irreversible decline in your population. Early Access Pacing: Because the game is developed by a tiny team and continues through steady updates, some features (like broader map interactions, advanced UI tooltips, or endgame objectives) are still evolving. Final Verdict: Highly Recommended for fans of slow-paced, detailed survival management games such as Banished, Foundation, or Manor Lords.
As someone who has spent countless hours with Banished, I've spent years searching for a game that could recreate that same feeling. I've played many colony builders, and while some are excellent games, they always felt like they were trying to be something different. Then I found Ostriv. This isn't just another city builder. It feels like the spiritual successor I've been looking for. If you're expecting a fast-paced colony builder, this may not be for you. But if you enjoy taking your time, watching a settlement slowly become a believable village, and solving problems through careful planning rather than rushing expansion, Ostriv is a masterpiece. As a Banished fan, I can honestly say this is the closest I've ever come to experiencing that magic again. Highly recommended.
Slow living - is the best descriptor of this game. Still early access since 2020, but what Ostriv have is quite polished already with supply chains, details in everything including step by step of building something visualised with care, and despite the small scale of the villages you ended up building it is quite flexible with no such thing as radius nonsense of Skylines-influenced builders. Yes the slow pace is a feature, though the calendar could be improved to be even slower as winter seems to arrive way too soon. Improvements that is sorely needed is economy, a rather opaque production chain could be clearer, and minor bugs here and there (the great shoes blackhole incident comes to mind), the environment is rather sparse with no mountains (Ukraina is mostly flat I get it but there's Carpathia and Krym) and no forest growth mechanics like Foundation and similar. Some fortifications would be welcome, again could just follow Foundation mechanics doesn't have to be like Manor Lords or similar.
