Giving a positive review, because the game does what is says, and the Devs are hard at work on creating their vision. Not upset by my purchase at all! Coming up on 100 hours and Veteran level 32, however, I'm deciding that this game really doesn't respect my time enough to remain fun for me, compared the the mess of other games on the market that I can play for roughly an hour or two a day and feel like I actually did something. I've simply gotten extremely bored with the slow grind of it all. The amount of times I've killed the Ancient Elemental (no less than 20) and not seen the 15% drop rate quest item sealed it for me; there's no respect for player time whatsoever. Daily quests that want you to kill 60-100 of a mob, and then only spawn in 20, forcing you to sit around or log out/in to respawn them is objectively not fun for me. That's fine for some gamers, but for me, I can't really consider it fun, especially with a combat system that has next to no real variety in it. So again - not a bad game by any means. I haven't noticed any real bugs or signs of bad development; the graphics are great for pixel art, and the old school RPG feel is there (not so sure about MMO feel with only 5 people per server), making it what they are advertising. (Tab targeting REALLY needs some work, though!) I don't feel bad at all for supporting them with my purchase. If that's your thing, you'll likely have fun with Ancient Kingdoms, and I hope you do!

You'll notice this as a positive review. I want to emphasize that - because I am about to list a LOT of negative points. A butt-load. Despite that long, LONG list of things, I want to play more. There is something special brewing here, but my god does it need some changes. But, to each their own, and if the devs are committed to the game as is...maybe it will wind up being not for me, and this will change to a negative. Not saying that as a "threat" either, not every game is for every person, and maybe their vision isn't for me. I've started taking notes as I play games. What follows are my notes on the good and bad. To start, the positives. 1 - The world feels alive, critters all over 2 - Runs buttery smooth 3 - Helpful community members 4 - Devs are responsive on forums 5 - Off the charts je ne sais quoi, because this is the end of my good thoughts and the list of bad/annoying is LONG, but I want to keep playing. And now...the bad/annoying/WTF/pleasechangeplz. I will say, the most helpful forum member addresses some of this on the forum with "well that's not a problem at endgame" and...like that's cool and all but I'm not AT endgame. I'm starting, and it's annoying/stupid to deal with. I'm glad at 60 hours in or so it isn't an issue anymore, but that doesn't really help. 1 - Movement is so slow. 2 - Skill variety is doodoo Seriously at 25 I can auto attack, shoot a stronger arrow on a LONG cooldown, or shoot an arrow with a "chance" (it never happens) to stun on a LONGER cooldown. There is no active play. It's auto attack and hit one other button every 15 seconds. 3 - Mercs are all humans? Why can't I just make a dude when I hire one? 4 - Mercs come with no gear. 5 - I can't buy anything but basic gear. 6 - No gear drops. 7 - How do I craft? 8 - Why does ranger have to buy arrows? The inventory is already limited, at least let me equip the stack of arrows for space. But seriously just remove this. Buying arrows is dumb. No other class has to spend money to attack/use skills. 9 - Why can't I pick a merc spec? What if I want a Ranger tank and a two handed DEEPS warrior? 10 - Why doesn't ranger move buff work in dungeons? Why do they WANT you moving SO SLOW? 11 - Why doesn't it start the auto-attack after using a skill to open the fight? 12 - Pickaxe durability is stupid. So stupid. ALL item durability is stupid, it is a crutch to pad gameplay. "Oh man I need more iron!" *pick shatters to useless dust* "What engaging gamplay! I'm so happy I get to go back to town with this SLOW MOVEMENT and build a new one! I'm enthralled!" 13 - Such limited bag space is stupid. 14 - Can't equip multiple of the same bag...why?! What a stupid restriction! Just let me buy 10 of the basic bag for some inventory space! 15 - HOW DO I GET MORE BAGS?! 16 - Even the bank is stupid limited locked behind a high cost for more room. 17 - Dex controls accuracy, I miss all the time having put a point into literally nothing else. 18 - Line of Sight is weird. I can't shoot an arrow when my cleric can shoot his little holy ball thing. 19 - Seriously in caves I am in melee range for my ranger shooting arrows 100% of the time. 20 - Can I not give my mercs potions? Just had my first real loss and being able to drop some pots or - god forbid - have them use them on their own from an inventory slot would have saved me. 21 - Traps are stupid. Can't see them, can't detect them, they are just guaranteed damage, and they go off every time you walk over them. Do I need a rogue? This is actually lame. 22 - Percentages for gathering/crafting are meaningless. I'm 5% gathering? What? Oh good I gained .1% Radiant Finding! 23 - Gray enemies should just never aggro on you, period. Full stop. 24 - I can fail at picking flowers? Seriously? Why? 25 - If I don't get XP from picking a flower, there should be ZERO chance of failure. Full stop. 26 - Why are there random pockets of high level crap? Fighting things in the 20s, then suddenly level ??. Then I have to path a LONG way around with this SLOW movement speed. 27- Teleport to specific town scrolls are too rare. 28 - FINALLY shown SOME crafting at level TWENTY FIVE. 29 - Seriously I'm 25 and my mercs are still in the most basic gear. Can I PLEASE get some gear for these dudes?

Great bones for an old school MMOrpg light. Currently it feels like everything is being pushed aside for a 1.0 release to try and push sales.(More new content areas, less bug fixes, balance and looking at poorly implemented/balanced systems.) There are some great systems here and a fun overall game, but are currently many issues, with balancing and core gameplay that become apparent in the endgame. A huge imbalance in endgame classes, Mage far out damaging the other options, Rouge having major issues with animations breaking and locking out auto attacks so they lose massive dps and fall largely behind for using their skills, 2h weapons always having lower damage due to less stats and much slower delay then 1h+OH. Warrior being a much stronger tank but having a weak damage spec, Ranger being both lower in damage then DPS classes and Survival as a tank, Cleric having roughly 2x the healing of druid and 1/2 the damage when placed in dps setup(This was currently buffed and will need tested.), Druid dps spec is well done but its healing has very few options well being listed as a healer. Mage is in a decent place, top dog damage with good AoE and ST options. Rouges main issue is low damage due to a broken core auto attack system, they also cant debuff half the endgame bosses because they are "debuff immune" but this only applies to dots and armor debuffs making dex rouge useless(Dot Rouge) and strength rouge lag far behind in dps, mages can still magic resist shred all these "defbuff immune" bosses and this is a spammed mechanic late game . Trade skills are a 100+ hour grind on their own to finish and this is per character, so if you ever want to play another class your looking at a few hundred hours for trade skills again, with only one being worth while well the others can still fail crafts and gathers at max level and provide less then a 2% stat boost through potions food ect even after this massive grind. There is also a system where you get negative reputation from the core gameplay loop, two dungeons you are meant to farm on your way to the endgame give you vast negative reputation. You need this reputation for the endgame questlines, this creates a gate through normal gameplay where you have to go farm at least a few dozen hours of reputation from mostly trash mobs, to be able to access endgame questlines and areas. This gate is created from normal gameplay and content you are intended to interact with. There was a minor recent nerf to the reputation lost but hopefully more is in the works. If the core issues, balancing and trade skills are fixed or looked at before 1.0 launch this could be a great choice for an old school MMO experience. Edit: After this post was made devs have taken feedback seriously and done some major work on balance and fixed the core systems. Classes are now being finished and balanced around player feedback plus testing and bugs and the broken core systems have been fixed, classes are getting much closer to being balanced and player feedback has become a priority, credit where credit is due. Kudos and keep up the good work, games on a great path at the moment.
