I've edited my old review. This is a more up-to-date review. In the first moments of my gameplay, I thought this game was no more than just another common survival game with bugs and it felt like it could be a little boring. I was totally wrong, though! This game has much more to give than I thought at first. Not 1, not 3 hours are enough to find out all what this game has to offer After finding out by myself how interesting this game can be, I got addicted to it. If you enjoy other games under the survival crafting genre, Animallica is a mix of other survival games, with the animal rescuing feature and theme that makes it even more interesting for who loves games centered in saving animals. PROS & FEATURES: [*] The game became better after some big patches and there are more new things after the Beta stage; [*] Animal taming - tranquilize, cure and tame a wide variety of animals species; [*] Animal diversity - the game contains diverse types of animals you'll come across with in your adventures - domestic/farm animals as well with animals from around the world (bears, big felines, wolves, elephants, pandas, deer, chickens, and many more); [*] 3 different game modes - Survival (which is the normal mode, where you will fully experience all the game features, basically), Peaceful mode (similar to Survival, but without the evil enemies to deal with (warning: animal with predatory instinct like tigers, bears, etc will still attack you on sight), and Creative mode - where you are free to spawn in any kind of item and animal existing in the game and build an animal haven for free; [*] Plenty kinds of maps - Both Survival and Peaceful modes offer you (currently) about 20 different maps to fully explore (3 of those maps are appropriated to build bases at and place your captured animals on them, as they are safe and have plenty free land to do these things). The creative mode has 6 different maps with enough building space to put your creativity to use. [*] Maps containing areas of different difficulty: Different maps offer you different difficulties (Survival mode mainly). Some areas may be populated with enemies, others without any or just a little amount. The game tells you which maps are more or less safe to explore before you travel between them through an air balloon. [*] Diverse points of interest available - from houses, to fortificated towns, castles, pyramids, cave, etc... These points of interest usually have a nice amount of loot to collect, and some have enemies nearby or no enemies at all. Also a chance of finding a couple of animals around these places. [*] Currency system and trading - there are different kinds of currencies in this game. Gold coins are the main currency. Through your journey, you will also earn Credits and find valuable items which you can trade for nice things at the different NPCs traders stalls located in a couple of maps. [*] Recycling - You're able to recycle certain kinds of items through the recycling bins, in exchange for a certain amount of gold coins. It is recommended to pay attention to which things you should or should not recycle since you may need those items for another use later. Thankfully, there are different ways of earning gold in this game. [*] A huge amount of different items to consume or use in crafting. [*] Diverse crafting options - ability to craft a huge diversity of objects - different storage containers, buildings, decorations, crafting stations, metal bars, consumables (like potions or foods)... [*] Different themed-buildings and other types of placeable structures available. If you love making parks and forests, Animallica has a really big amount of different types of plants and trees to help you creating them; [*] Big diversity of content (many tools and weapons, buildings and other placeables (functional and decorative), animals, maps/environments, ...; [*] The game reveals more things the more you play it. It keeps you busy for hours. While you think you have done and captured everything in a map, you will later realize you haven't fully done everything in that map and will need to come back to it, meaning more hours spent in fulfilling achievements; [*] The tutorial and journals will help you getting started as well with guiding you on what you should be doing next (not an obligatory path to follow however, you play the game as you wish); [*] Can interact with water masses - dive and swim to reach to smaller islands or pick up underwater resources; [*] Saddled horses will allow you to travel faster through the lands, but there is a personal preference from some players that will go by foot (requires consumption of more stamina drinks to keep running however); [*] General gameplay in 1st person only; riding a horse will allow you to see things in 3rd person; [*] The hunger, thirst and stamina levels were adjusted, to prevent the constant need of drinking or eating. Make sure you still pay attention to your stats though. You will manage to find which foods, drinks or medicine are more effective to keep your character healthy. [*] Each item has an useful description - hover with your mouse over it while in the inventory and learn more things about it. [*] Vivid colors. The sunsets and sunrises look really pretty. [*] Diverse sound and graphical options available, to adjust things that fit your preferences. [*] Friendly and helpful community. [*] Easy way of reporting and game issue with response. [*] Different options to save the game (manual, automatic and quick save). The game saves locally however - I recommend doing a backup of your saved game folder to a different drive or save it in cloud storage or in your email account, just in case anything happens to your PC and you don't want to lose your progress. CONS: [*] Being honest in here, Animallica is not flawless. [*] Apart of the background music and ambient sound being good, some other sounds may not be everyone's cup of tea (rats and evil cats screams, bear traps shutting). [*] Possible occasional jumpscares - the enemies rarely make any sound while running around, and they will easily show up behind your back, when you turn around and see them, that can be a little scary situation. Also stepping on bear traps may scare you a bit because of their noise. Pay attention to your surroundings to avoid mostly of these. You can destroy the traps by the way! [*] "The Looting Game" - you will find yourself spending a good part of your time looting items through many places, there is a huge amount of them and that can be a quite repetitive task, however, you will need a big amount of those resources you keep grabbing in the future. [*] No modular building (except on fences). You need to use the premade buildings available. This may limit things a little bit when it comes to imagination - but it is still very possible to build your base and several animal havens. [*] Minimum and Recommended Requirements to play Animallica can be demanding mainly when it comes to the graphics card. The game went through a rocky road when it comes to being built in an old engine as well with optimization flaws, it has been optimized since a good while ago but it may be a bit far from perfection, so check if you have an acceptable pc rig to play it (you may be able to play it with pc parts with some years old, but in mid or lower settings. [*] AMD Radeon graphics cards incompatibility - The game has stopped to be compatible with AMD Radeon series that are not kind of old. I recommend owning Nvidia graphics card if you are thinking about buying this game. [*] While the developers keep aiming to patch the game with hotfixes, one or another bug or other issue may happen for a few players, usually restarting your game, or verifying the integrity of your game files fixes part of these issues. The game is playable for me at least and I can do everything I wish in it at least for now. Summing up, I recommend getting this game.
