Amazing game. While it's Assassin's Creed series, it really hit my itch for another Witcher 3 game. Open world, tons of side quests, fun combat that you can either stealth or viking your way in. Get it on sale it's amazing.

People usually complain about this game being so long and so repetitive, they complain about it not feeling like an Assassin's Creed... I get it, it is ABSOLUTELY LONG, and NOT AN ASSASIN'S CREED experience that you would expect. BUT - It has absolutely stunning graphics, a huge map that feels so alive and yet full of solitude at the same time. ABSOLUTE BEAUTY! And about being repetitive, every other game is repetitive to some extent. This one may feel repetitive in terms of mechanisms, looting and fights you have to go through, but all the locations are very different. Locations like Cavern of Trials etc. are so fascinating! And yes, it's NOT A GOOD ASSASIN'S CREED experience, I accept it. But it doesn't mean it's bad as a game. It gives off those Norse vibes with a load of awe-inspiring myths and legends. Boss Fights feel like an easy Souls Game, but that's relaxing! I just love this game! Everyone who wants to live as a Viking & as a Norse god (If you get the DLCs too), this is the perfect game, believe me!

*Played on Steam Deck* Spoiler-free review! [NO story] (Also without any DLC playtime) So here we are, at last. I FINALLY reached... Valhalla! (pun intended) Jokes aside, this game... Is definitely a journey. I really loved it but oh boy did it overstay its own welcome. Its both a blessing and a curse! I will say for sure that this is without a doubt the longest game I have ever played in my life. It was bittersweet to play. Its hard to put down, but hard to finish as well. Its both fun and a chore. This will be a very hit and miss type of game for a lot of players. Honestly, this game is very special. Some of you will love it, and some of you will not. Its NOT because of the gameplay, setting, or world itself, those were AMAZINGLY done, but the issue is rather the LENGHT of the game. Its the video game that never wants to end and doesn't know when to go home. It was a running gag or meme for me while being near the end and it kept going and going... When you think its the last chapter it throws another one and another one... It basically took me SEVERAL breaks from this game to eventually finish it. Burn out was prevelent and consistant for me. Don't let other reviews fool you that you can beat this game to 100% or maybe even finish the main story with less than 150 hours. IF you are an explorer and enjoyer of open world, it will take twice that. Heck if you just like roaming around expect this game to be at least over 300 hours. I think sadly that most gamers nowadays have adhd or are speedrunners, and people who don't take in the world and atmosphere of open world games. As for myself, I have at least around 600 hours on this game but due to playing a lot offline, Steam didn't track my playtime correctly. This is a game where you can lose yourself for hours and months just exploring! But yeah, as I said earlier: You WILL need multiple breaks to finish this massive game. But in a way it felt cozy and welcoming to come back to it so often after a good while. Its not necessarily a punishment. This is a very good game! The story itself is amazing, but unfortunately not consistent with the gameplay itself. That being said: This is a masterpiece. The tone, story and characters are a delight to experience! The world truly feels alive and connected like nothing I have ever seen before. If you like The Witcher 3, or Skyrim, then this game is definitely in your alley. It has the darkness, depth, wit and humor in the characters. Also, even if you might not be into the era of vikings or vikings in general (like I was), I ended up being sucked in and drawn to the history and lore of vikings because of this game! It made me get interested in it. So give it a chance! Anyhow, my only real complaint is nitpicks like: The combat realism, the weapons and armor not being random loot, (but locked away), and that enemies take too many hits. The last point can be fixed by playing on "easy or story", that makes combat more realistic and fluent. To me its not that the game was too hard, but rather that it was imerssion breaking to hit enemies for so long. In that way, I prefer playing on easy mode, that felt way more ealistic to how a real battle would be in real life: Shorter. Another really annoying thing with this game is that when upgrading your gear or weapons at a blacksmith... literally every single piece turns into a gold themed color scheme when reaching max level. I absolutely HATED that since it doesn't match the vibe or look of the game. Not to mention also that gold itself is a softer metal than steel or silver. Meaning in real life, gold armor is useless. Oh, also last rant: The hairstyles... Some are just not accurate to that era. Its clear the devs took a lot of inspiration from the tv show "Vikings" with this game. Both for the good and the bad. Overall this is a MUST play for everyone, even if this turns out to be your very first Assassin's Creed game. Its THAT good... and that's actually coming from an old school AC player like me. The RPG with open world in an AC game... works surprisingly well. This game gets a solid 10/10 from me! **P.S. (I HIGHLY recomend playing as the FEMALE player. Eivor just works better as female in my opinion because of the contexts in how she interracts with characters, and also since she has a better voice actor, and a lot of the gameplay will feel more realistic based on dialogue and choices) _____________ TLDR below: Pros: ----- - Amazing (best) open world/map. - Tone and atmosphere is peak. - Characters feel alive and true. - Excellent and fun combat (on easy) - Story and lore is satisfying. (If you can keep up with it) Cons: ------ - You are pulled away from the narrative often. - Game is too long. (Weird complaint) - You will need big breaks from the game often. - Too many characters to keep track of. - Hairstyles too modern. - Limited weapons and gear. - Every gear/weapon upgrade turns to gold color when reaching max level. #Ugly - Combat: enemies are too spongey. (Takes too much hits to kill) Last point above can be fixed by changing the difficulty to easy/story, and with the hidden blade option as a "garanteed assassination". Thank you for reading my review! I will see you all in Valhalla.

At first, reading all the reviews on youtube, I didn't like the game, I even bought it to try it and refunded it. But then I bought it again and simply played without expectations. I realized I was sorta negatively influenced from the get-go to not like the game based on what others have said. And now, changing the perspective on the game, I've been enjoying it a lot even if it's been taking me well over a month of playing it and I'm still far from finishing. It's a weird concept for many people (especially reviewers) but if you take your time, do other things in life and have some gaming sessions here and there with a long game that will take well over 200 hours then you might actually enjoy the game instead of "burning out". It's like coming back to a really good book, many chapters, immersive story, awesome characters, and most of all, something to enjoy and invest your time into.

No where near as good as odyssey. Climbing is worse and so are the DLCs. But for £12 I got 161 hours of content which isn't bad.
