I must say I should have played Assassin's Creed Valhalla years ago. I listened to many reviewers who gave this game a big thumbs down, and now I feel that was a mistake. After finally playing it myself, I realized how different my experience was from what I had heard. The story is not overly complex, but it is emotional and engaging. The relationships you build and the choices you make give the journey a personal touch. I found myself caring about many of the characters and wanting to see how their stories would end. The game is packed with side activities. Some of them are incredibly addictive, while others did not click with me at all. Hunting legendary animals and solving mysteries across the world were easily my favorite activities. Every time I saw a mystery marker on the map, I wanted to know what was waiting there. On the other hand, I never really enjoyed Orlog, the Animus anomaly puzzles, or some of the repetitive raiding. Flyting challenges were fun occasionally, but not something I looked forward to. What kept me invested the most were the story arcs. They connect Eivor's journey from Norway to England and then to places like Ireland, Francia, Vinland, and beyond. Each region feels like its own chapter, with new characters, conflicts, and stories to experience. I also want to give special praise to the Asgard storyline. The way Valhalla adapts Norse mythology is beautiful. Exploring Asgard felt magical and completely different from the rest of the game. Seeing legendary figures, mythical events, and ancient prophecies brought to life was one of the highlights of my playthrough. The visuals, atmosphere, and sense of mystery made those sections unforgettable for me. Speaking of visuals, this game is simply gorgeous. Even years after release, it remains one of the most beautiful open-world games I have ever played. There were countless moments when I stopped what I was doing just to admire the scenery. Whether it was the snowy landscapes of Norway, the countryside of England, or the mythical beauty of Asgard, the world constantly amazed me. Combat is also enjoyable. The variety of weapons and fighting styles allows you to experiment and create your own approach. It feels satisfying, and I appreciated the new combinations and abilities that the game introduced. Overall, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful open-world games ever made. It has an emotional story, memorable characters, addictive exploration, and a world that is a joy to get lost in. I know many people criticize this game, and that's fine, but after playing it myself, I simply don't agree with them. Sometimes the best thing you can do is ignore the noise, play the game, and form your own opinion. That's exactly what I did with Valhalla, and I'm glad I finally gave it a chance.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is a terrible AC game , but a pretty good Viking RPG . The whole time, it felt like Ubisoft desperately wanted to make their own CDPR's The Witcher 3, but had to keep the AC name on the box. The result is a game that sometimes works on its own terms, but often feels confused about what it actually wants to be. The most confusing moment of my ACV experience happened when I genuinely had to google whether I had already finished the game or not. The ending doesn’t feel like a proper ending. It doesn’t provide closure, it doesn’t leave a cliffhanger... it just stops. EVEN 6 YEARS LATER, THE GAME IS STILL BROKEN . It crashed every few hours during my playthrough. Movement, and especially parkour, feel stiff, with Eivor sometimes refusing to climb or even move forward properly. Like, I get he’s a Viking, but HОLY SHIТ . The game drove me mad with some of the most unintuitively hidden entrances to points of interest. At first, I’d circle the area in search of a solution, only to eventually look it up. And I’m not the only one with this issue. There are countless videos explaining where exactly you need to go to access certain areas. I call it bad design. Some design choices are unironically funny. Just listen: you play as a VIKING who regularly participates in RAIDS, but killing civilians leads to DESYNCHRONIZATION. I’m a big Vikings show fan, so this was almost the first thing that I noticed. A really annoying "feature" is treasure markers appearing prematurely before items spawn. Some NPCs occasionally address male Eivor in the feminine form while still calling him “brother”. I played the game in Russian, but apparently, this is a problem even in the English version. I’m not even going to ramble on about the collision and animation bugs, they come with the user agreement. To be fair, not everything is bad. One genuinely great feature is the one that lets you keep the appearance of your gear while upgrading its stats. Completing the game with the default Raven outfit added a lot of ambience, and you don’t have to change your setup every time you find gear with slightly better stats. The Wrath of the Druids (Ireland) and Siege of Paris (Francia) DLCs are totally worth playing, bringing fresh storylines, armor, and weapons. In the end, Valhalla works best when you stop thinking of it as an AC game. As a Viking-themed RPG with exploration, raids, and a huge world to wander through, it can be enjoyable
People usually complain about this game being so long and so repetitive, they complain about it not feeling like an Assassin's Creed... I get it, it is ABSOLUTELY LONG, and NOT AN ASSASIN'S CREED experience that you would expect. BUT - It has absolutely stunning graphics, a huge map that feels so alive and yet full of solitude at the same time. ABSOLUTE BEAUTY! And about being repetitive, every other game is repetitive to some extent. This one may feel repetitive in terms of mechanisms, looting and fights you have to go through, but all the locations are very different. Locations like Cavern of Trials etc. are so fascinating! And yes, it's NOT A GOOD ASSASIN'S CREED experience, I accept it. But it doesn't mean it's bad as a game. It gives off those Norse vibes with a load of awe-inspiring myths and legends. Boss Fights feel like an easy Souls Game, but that's relaxing! I just love this game! Everyone who wants to live as a Viking & as a Norse god (If you get the DLCs too), this is the perfect game, believe me!
At first, reading all the reviews on youtube, I didn't like the game, I even bought it to try it and refunded it. But then I bought it again and simply played without expectations. I realized I was sorta negatively influenced from the get-go to not like the game based on what others have said. And now, changing the perspective on the game, I've been enjoying it a lot even if it's been taking me well over a month of playing it and I'm still far from finishing. It's a weird concept for many people (especially reviewers) but if you take your time, do other things in life and have some gaming sessions here and there with a long game that will take well over 200 hours then you might actually enjoy the game instead of "burning out". It's like coming back to a really good book, many chapters, immersive story, awesome characters, and most of all, something to enjoy and invest your time into.
