Without the YouTube mod, then I would definitely recommend Audiosurf 1 over the sequel, but with the YouTube mod installed (with is relatively simple to do), then man, it's really worth it! What makes the previous entry feel better is the gameplay; unless it's been patched, the last time I played AS 2, there were some courses that didn't have safe lane, meaning that I needed to ruin my combo/flow. Maybe that was just me a issue, but even with that (minor-ish) flaw, the sequel is still a fun time (especially with hat mod installed).
Dude. Yes. I've owned this game for 13 years. So many times a new album comes out I make sure to set time aside and surf it for my first proper listen. I've surfed a lot of great ones. This game's been with me through thick and thin. Dude. *leans in and whispers* alright dude. if ya wanna skip all the sifting through mods and skins to find your favorite combo, trust me on this: mono with the glowing spectrum skin by MozzieFox updated by TerraSancta. No disrespect to the modding community (I'm technically part of it), there's lots of great skins, but that skin is always the one I come back to. Take this advice and you will not be disappointed by this video game. Haha alright dude what are you even waiting for. Surf your music. Let your brain fully experience the joy of listening as a fuller sensory experience. Hit the pen and ride them waves dawg. Bro you see those scores? Don't worry about the scores man. By opening your heart to the waves, you have already won. Ten out of freakin TEN bro.
Out of all the rhythm games I've tried, Audiosurf remains THE best one when it comes to custom songs. Majority of rhythm games that allows adding your own songs either do it by making users create their own maps (produces best quality, but incredibly limited, especially if you enjoy more niche artists) or simply adapt the gameplay to song's BMP (works fine for simple songs, but anything more complex is unusable). Audiosurf will listen to not only beats, but any sounds the music produces, adding them to the track. Not only that, it will do so dynamically, so if the song changes speed or genre, Audiosurf will have absolutely no issues. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Some sounds get ommited, there are quite a few visual glitches... But if you're specifically looking for a rhythm game that allows custom songs, this is THE best one. The best part? Workshop support. Want to turn this game into a shoot 'em up? There is already a mod for this on the workshop.
