NOTE: take about 6 hours off my playtime, as its wasn't uncommon for me to just step away from the game often. Boy, this game took a while, but thats the way most Spiderweb Software games are. A very heavy reading game, again, as all Spiderweb games, and I wouldnt have it any other way. Even as Spiderweb software games go, this one on normal is a fairly easy, as long as you realize magic is busted good in this game. I'm a bit sad i didn't get my achievement for beating the games every ending on normal I should have gotten, due to fiddling with the difficulty options (without even exiting the options screen). However, I don't ever feel like playing these types of games on difficulties higher than normal. so not like i'm 100% achievements this game anyway. If you've played the original Avernum 2, you probably dont need to play this one unless you REALLY loved it and want to experience it with a new coat of paint and some Quality of Life changes that were much needed (thank god for the junk bag). If you haven't, get it on sale and have an enjoyable crpg with a lot of reading. Don't expect a lot of "your choices matter" here, as theres few of those. Just enjoy the ride, play on normal, and go from weak soldiers to demi-gods.

This was an excellent sequel that cleverly reused the bones of the original map and player's knowledge to add new depth to the world while still feeling fresh. The new spell additions were good for more flavor and adding extra methods of exploration. The new playable races are also fun even if some of the world's reactions to you are relatively minor. I especially loved how the impact of the Empire's war on Avernum felt and how dire the situation was throughout the game.

These games are huge. up to 80 hours. pretty decent customization on the ole scrote pokers. Not an insane amount of reading like planescape, but enough to build a world. The remakes have some minor flaws (not being able to close doors, can't bash doors - only pick locks - ) but it gives an old game a new shine. It still holds up.

Spiderweb does a specific style of party based dungeon crawler of which this is an example. I don't think this is the best of the type but it's not terrible if you like that kind of thing.

3 hours in; i felt like i just went on a great adventure. I really cant wait to play more. Really fun game. Make sure you set your resolution right. 1600x900 was sweet spot for me even with wide-screen monitor.
