An enjoyable story with lovable characters and unique art style, but bittersweet It's hard to introduce this game properly due to how the game starts out. In a short scene we are introduced to the main character in the third person, however this quickly switches to the first person. This intro is confusing as it kind of gives away what is going to happen by the end. So all throughout the story you'll be wondering how it is going to happen. Apart from this weird choice in storytelling, there isn't much to criticise. Solid and believable characterisations, colourful scenery - I especially enjoyed the school play but it would have been nice to see more of some of the minor characters. A couple of points I found jarring. Main character's (MC) relationship with parents, in particular, not telling them what was going on. Perhaps the best word to describe conversations, even though some were poorly translated, would be spontaneous. I found this especially true with these parents. So random and ridiculous, is this what people are really like over there? So in that respect it felt contrived, always with the dad asking for grandchildren. One other weird point that I was confused about was the conversation on attendance, with nurse Yang Qin teasing the MC. This one just didn't seem true to character, seeing as she has a medical profession. Later I realised she was just incredibly antagonistic and perhaps jealous in some ways, but again, it felt unnatural. Overall I feel enriched by having played it. There is a weird achievement that requires you to start a new game immediately after finishing the game, but other than that there are only about 5 choices tops throughout the whole story so finding all the CGs and all the endings shouldn't be too hard. To the devs: don't put skin on the outer edge of mouths if the heads are on a sideview! It kind of ruins the art.

Playing this game made me realize how attached I became to this vn-series, I love all the games for being so sweet, funny, nostalgic and melancholic at the same time. Seeing East 73 and Shan Gui characters interact made me very happy, the new characters are lovely as well, especially Yang Qin is incredible (and the protagonist's parents are hilarious). I generally really like the characters in the whole series, some personalities are somewhat stereotypical for the comedy factor, but their individual writing is still quite deep and distinguished. The story is mostly lighthearted and entertaining with lots of hilarious moments but has pretty dark undertones that at some point start dominating the plot. I honestly still don't grasp the whole supernatural thing even after playing all games but it really intrigues me regardless lol. Furthermore, I highly enjoyed the comfortable calm atmosphere and loved the music and visuals with gorgeous backgrounds and plenty of CGs. The english translation is pretty great too! Overall this was to me a quite relaxing, entertaining and emotional experience.

Bittersweet comes to mind when you think of this story. Set in the same universe as Shan Gui, it's a pretty sweet Visual Novel overall. The last chapter(s), sad but beautiful for each route, is definitely worth reading.
