March 2025
Having already played the first Batman Telltale game on Switch I decided to pick this up on sale. It’s listed as unsupported on Steam Deck but runs absolutely fine out of the box. I only encountered a single bug that forced a restart when a camera angle became locked but the scene continued to play out in Episode 2. Gameplay wise it uses controller prompts just fine. If you’ve played any telltale game before you should know what to expect. You do however need to be mindful that the prompts and timing for your answers come and go quickly so if you’re trying to aim for specific choices for a desired outcome you’ve can’t get distracted whereas the “combat” prompts feel a little more forgiving. Graphics are good, especially on the OLED. Didn’t really get any glitches or stuttering which helped. The artistic design fits in well too. There is also a Shadows mode DLC that give the game a different feel. I liked the design for Bane and Joker still feels like a young Wilhem Dafoe. Storywise it does help to have played the first game but not 100% necessary. The game revolves around Bruce/Batman continuing his mission when Riddler returns to Gotham to terrorize it drawing the attention of Amanda Waller and her agency. The overarching story is how you choose to bend or break your relationships to stop what is the Telltale’s take on the Suicide Squad. Of the rogues gallery you get Harley (who is dominant over a submissive Joker), Bane, Mr. Freeze, a returning Catwoman, and a returning Joker. The latter is probably the biggest part of the story as most of the choices you make in his sections determine the type of clown prince you’ll follow through the game as he’s trying to find his place having been helped out of Arkham in the first game. Like all telltale games it’s episodic thought there aren’t always good stopping points for taking a break in gaming sessions but that’s not terrible. You also get the community feedback at the end of each episode based on your choices so there is replay value if you so choose. It ran me 11 hours on my so far only playthrough but like a comic book it’ll get an eventual reread/playthrough. Not a bad game for a weekend play or looking for something to enjoy at bedtime that’s not as intense on a visual novel level. $14.99 at its normal price which isn’t terrible an entry price though with Steam I’d wait for a sale because sales are always good.

Telltale did an outstanding job with this game. My choices fully mattered in shaping the story, and I have to give huge credit to the team for improving on the previous installment. They took everything that worked and made it even better. It’s a shame that a third season is a long way off (if it ever happens), but if you have the chance, experience this masterfully crafted Batman story as soon as possible—it’s made with an incredible amount of passion and effort. I really enjoyed the side characters, especially Bane, Riddler, and, of course, Joker, who is the true highlight of this game. Depending on your choices, you get two completely different versions of Joker—either the Vigilante or Villain—and both are executed brilliantly. After finishing my playthrough, I immediately searched for the alternate Joker outcome, and I was thoroughly satisfied with both, which speaks volumes about how well this game is written. The post-credits scenes add depth to the aftermath, and the two major choices leading to different endings left me craving more. I personally think the Villain Joker route has the stronger emotional impact, especially with how it ties into Alfred’s decision, making it my preferred ending. The action has also been improved, with better camera movements and a stylized comic book aesthetic that enhances the experience. However, my main issue was how many characters ended up knowing Bruce Wayne is Batman. I didn’t enjoy constantly being blackmailed or pressured about my identity. To be fair some reveals were optional—for example, Tiffany knowing could be optional if she joins the Agency, but the looming threat of Batman’s identity being exposed never fully goes away, which doesn’t quite align with how the original Batman would handle things. That said, I had an amazing time playing this game. It stands among Telltale’s best works—if not the best—and it’s heartbreaking that we may never see another Batman game from them. Yes, I do consider this a masterpiece when it comes to choice-driven adventure games. If you’re a fan of interactive storytelling, this is a strong recommendation.

Very nice! The second season was great in terms of events, choices, and how they connected to the first season. The Joker’s development from a good person to a bad one was really well done, and the voice acting was excellent. However, there was a bit of delay in the events, and some episodes felt short. But still, it deserves a 9/10. 🖤🦇

Absolutely loved this. Choices matter much more in this game than the first one. Played from start to finish in one day it was so good. Absolutely worth playing. Amazing story telling and characters. Voice acting is top notch just as in the first game. Highly recommend this game to any Batman fan.
