A quick, cozy, and story-rich hotel management game with a charming animal theme Bear and Breakfast truly surprised me. While I was expecting an easy and passive sim. game I was pleasantly surprised with the overall story line. Magical and tragic the lore gave me absolute chills while the game play gave me that warm and fuzzy feeling. I was able to complete the main story line in 35 hours however even after the main story line concludes the tycoon aspect of the game itself has high replay-ability and should they ever add more lore I will back playing this game again and again.

Very cute, decently relaxing, and enough variety to keep you interested if you're into this sort of game. My only complaint is that the building mechanism is really difficult as your buildings get larger. For the love of everything fuzzy and adorable, let me zoom where I want to zoom rather than on a fixed center.

Over all, this is a super cute game that has some good core mechanics. But, it isn't fleshed out enough and is left feeling clunky, especially as you gain more and more properties. Best way I can describe it is if you were forever stuck in the early game of Stardew Valley or something, where nothing is upgraded and it takes forever to do most things. For example, in Stardew: Spring 1 I can barely make it to the mines because there are a lot of things to do and I have to water each plant one at a time. But by Spring 2, I've upgraded stuff so I can explore other places. That's pretty standard for most games, but Bear and Breakfast one kinda misses that. You think you get QoL when you unlock the friends to help you, but they are pretty cost prohibitive and so you just end up abandoning the expensive properties that require a lot of your time (looking at you Ski Cabins and the Captain's Mansion) so that you can advance the game. I did play to the end game though, because if you do just abandon the ones that require cooking/heating upkeep, the game becomes more manageable. And I enjoyed it! Just the completionist/perfectionist in me would love it if I could have all properties going at once. Oh, and playing with a controller is a nightmare. Just don't do it, trust me lol.

Really cute visuals and story’s deceptively light-hearted when it’s actually dark (not a bad thing). Gets a bit grindy mid to late game, especially when you unlock cooking and have to forage for ingredients. Still tolerable tho. You get to play as a bear 🐻🔥💯

I've got mixed feelings about this one, but since I usually enjoy these types of management-based cozy games, I do think that I have had a good time playing this overall. However, that doesn't change the fact that the game has got issues. For some backstory - I love management games. Some of my favorite games have always revolved around some kind of management aspect (ex: Zoo Tycoon 2, Planet Zoo, & various run-your-own hotel mobile games), so this game caught my eye pretty much as soon as it was released. What initially drew me to this game was the adorable art style and the aforementioned management gameplay. I would still say that these aspects of the game are enjoyable. The art is some of my favorite I've ever seen in a game like this, super warm and cozy -- the loading screen art is beautiful and the cutscenes are super cute and unique. The gameplay, too, fulfilled my pressing need for a game of this type. There were some issues, though. Mine started as soon as I opened the game. As a completionist-of-sorts (I'll admit I'm not hugely motivated like some are, but I try) I was super disappointed when I realized my achievements weren't "popping". 15 minutes and a lot of forum searching later, I find out for some reason save slot 3 is the only one that allows achievements to work. Weird, but okay. I start the game for the third time at this point in the correct save slot and fast forward through the cutscenes I'd already seen. All the achievements are working now, so I'm relatively happy but worried for what this means for the rest of the game. I finish my first several quests which takes another hour or so. and then I find I'm stuck on what to do next. This cycle is one that repeats frequently for me in the first two hours or so of gameplay. When you're just starting out, you only have one B&B. This isn't a problem until you realize all the quests in the game are tied to your progression/completion of various tasks surrounding the B&B's you manage (aside from a few 2-part side quests that were basically all already solved by the time I received them). In other words, in the beginning of the game, you have one quest to fulfill, and because these quests build upon each other, you are basically stuck waiting around or collecting what few resources you can while you wait to complete that one quest. I think this flow of gameplay is stunted due to the lack or quality of the first few side quests you receive (all fetch quests) and the fact that you can't access some quests due to you having to complete the one previous to do so. This issue quickly goes away though, like I said, because as you unlock more locations and management properties, you basically have your hands full (paws full?) balancing B&B management, side quests, getting better furniture, etc. that time seems to move faster while waiting for those pesky 'get 10+ visitors stays completed' quests to complete. The beginning is a slog though, I will admit. I think most of my issues with this game seem to stem from QOL problems rather than straight up issues with the game. For example, something that annoyed the [insert chosen expletive] out of me while playing was that you can't, for some reason, zoom out on the map? And it's SUPER zoomed in. It's just little oversights like that that bothered me the most while playing. Unlike most players it seems, I didn't mind cooking or the heating. Once you get *SPOILER* to cook for you, you don't really have to worry about cooking anymore. And the heating for me was just a matter of having two utility rooms per property and a level 2+ heating item. I actually found most of the time I was well above what the guests were asking for, but that has no penalties in this game so most of my guests were frying rather than freezing. I do enjoy this game, though, and I do plan on getting 100% completion. Like I said, I enjoy these types of games, so your mileage may vary if you don't AND you find issue with everything else I listed before. I can tell a lot of care and love went into this game and that with a little more attention, I think it can really shine the way the developers want it to for others.
