A shame movements and collisions are so outrageously bad and inconsistent, that broke my sense of wonder way too many times. An exploration of those infinite labyrinths of the impossible with such a banger OST would have been a lifetime gaming experience without this feeling of wackiness. One of the best megastructures i've explored. A shame i did so in such an uncomfortable and arduously irratiting way. Everything else is great.

When I think of Sacred Geometry, this game will be forever carved into my psyche. Truly a beautiful masterwork of level design and traversal. This game will be in my benchmark suite for OLED testing, absolutely beautiful HDR mastering and perfected graphic design. Has one of the absolutely visual stunning levels I have ever seen on a calibrated OLED, I legitimately had to stop and just observe. Absolutely enrapturing music and sound design, it will envelop you. I really, really enjoy the megastructure design in this, it feels utterly unique and not relying on tropes like the backrooms to convey its own sense of otherworldly grandeur in a vast world that was not made for you. Each time I was getting upset or lost with the game, I would sleep it off. This gives me the same feeling as Void Stranger, but as a walking simulator and a bit less rage. Easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing while puzzling games I can recall ever. Each time I wander off the track thinking the developers didn't intend this, I was rewarded. It felt as if the game was watching, learning how I played and adapting. There are no maps, the tips provided are layered, there is no hand holding. The checkpoint system in this is beautifully done, but can be very painful for those who feel like walk backs are a waste of time. I really enjoy the lack of a map as it forces you to take the levels in mind on a very detailed level. If you are a fan of surreal exploration games, do not ever sleep on this. Be warned that this is really not a game for the average person, even more so for those expecting immediate gratification. You will be lost and confused and if you get overwhelmed in that, this will not be a game you will enjoy.

This game is truly excellent. Scratches a very niche itch that only a very few other games (Outer Wilds, Echo, Observation) manage to hit. Bringing cosmic scale and cosmic horror across is hard to do, and it's even harder to do on a budget, but this game manages it through creative architecture, tonally-exact writing, and a surprisingly open exploration structure where you actually get rewarded for trying strange routes. If you've ever looked at a picture of a black hole and felt that thrill, the sense of vertigo as you imagine toppling in, and you're unable to look away? This is the game for you.

A brilliant and beautiful game about wandering through the ever-expanding megastructure beyond the bounds of time and space, and at the end of the world no less. Gorgeous vistas with an atmosphere wrapped in a blanket of dreamlike melancholy easily sucked me into this world for hours on end, with a great and unique soundtrack that perfectly compliments the game world. It's definitely not a linear walking sim, there's tons of interconnected paths to take and it's up to you to figure out what goes where in order to reach the goals set out for you. There's no combat or puzzles to contend, it's purely navigation and internalising where you've been and haven't been, but getting lost is okay too when there's so much of the megastructure to explore. I found the story and writing really interesting, especially as someone who's not familiar with The King in Yellow. Tons of theories kept popping up in my head as I explored the world, talked to NPCs, noticed repeating geometry and learned more about the megastructure, only to have the story bubbling in my head be turned upside down with some key moments and NPC interactions. Even if I feel I didn't fully understand everything going on, the writing still managed to paint a deeply fascinating world, one I would love to explore further by reading the original King in Yellow story and even more so with the upcoming sequel Hypnos. I do however have one major gripe with the game and that's the frequent sound popping and crackling issues that permeates the entire runtime, which seems to be an extremely common issue since launch and it's disappointing said issue has never been addressed. Other than that I only have minor issues, like collision in some areas not working as you expect and some unnecessary invisible walls preventing you from exploring out of bounds, even though it's the kind of world where you'd expect to wander just about anywhere. So my issues are largely minor, but those sound issues needs serious fixing, as they did risk annoying me and pulling me out of my immersion on multiple occasions since they're impossible to ignore. Performance can also be rough in some areas, but it didn't bother me much thanks to the game's nature as a slow paced and combat-less walking sim. But yes, a big huge double thumbs up for Blackshard from me, especially perfect for those who enjoy walking sims, megastructure settings and a good dash of cosmic horror and melancholy. Really excellent stuff and incredibly excited for Hypnos and anything else that explores this universe further!

this game reminds me of those portinos of "heaven" (for lack of a better term) that are off-limits to humans. The administrative levels of angels. i was able to glimpse them once - but was sent back to Earth to live another life as punishment during one of humanity's low points. i digress. i've played quite a few of these parkour-megastructure games and i enjoy them a lot. this is one of the best ones. the non-Euclidean vistas (that no human was meant to gaze upon) are worth the price of admission alone.
