June 2025
I remember the first time I played Blood and Bacon. I had no idea what I was getting into. It was late, I was broke, and the game cost less than a pack of gum. But from the moment I saw that talking farmer nailed to the wall… I knew. This wasn’t just a game. This was art. It started with a shotgun, a barn, and a pig. Then two pigs. Then twenty. Then demon pigs. Then flying pigs. Then pigs that exploded. And somehow, none of it felt wrong. We didn’t know the story. We didn’t care. We were just two friends with unlimited ammo and even more unlimited stupidity. We painted the barn red every night and laughed like we were kids again. Every level was chaos. Every weapon was overkill. We’d scream when the pig boss lunged at us, then cry laughing as we shredded it with a minigun stolen from a vending machine. There was no “balance.” No “meta.” Just meat. And that farmer? He became part of us. Every morning he greeted us like nothing happened. His words? Philosophical. His presence? Godlike. One night, my buddy and I made it to Day 30. We were tired, low on ammo, one of us bleeding out in the mud. And just before we quit... We won. The music hit. We stood in silence. We’d done it. We beat the bacon. Now, years later, we still talk about that run. Still quote the farmer. Still boot it up from time to time just to feel that dumb joy again. Because Blood and Bacon isn’t just a game. It’s the smell of something cooking at 3am when you’re too tired to think and too wired to sleep. It’s a memory wrapped in carnage and carried by laughter. It’s friendship in the form of pork. And as the barn doors creak open one more time… I reload, smile, and say: “Let’s make bacon.”

I bought Blood and Bacon as a joke. It was two dollars. A barn, a gun, and pigs that explode. I thought it would be funny. And it was — at first. But somewhere between Day 10 and Day 50, it stopped being a joke. Not because it got serious. But because I did. There’s something about shooting wave after wave of grotesque, howling pigs under a rust-red sky that starts to feel familiar. Like every morning, you wake up, put your teeth in, load your gun, and do it all over again. For no reason. No reward. Just a voice on the wall, bleeding from the chest, telling you to “keep going.” And I did. Because sometimes, that’s all there is. You fight because you’re still breathing. You laugh because it’s easier than screaming. And you reload because the pigs don’t stop coming. I played it with a friend. We didn’t talk much. Just ran side by side through blood-soaked mud, throwing meat chunks at a moonless sky. And somehow, that was enough. In a game this stupid, we found something that felt like loyalty. Blood and Bacon is ugly. It’s crude. It’s nonsense stitched together with rusted nails and baling wire. But it knows exactly what it is. And it never lies to you. There’s honesty in absurdity. And sometimes, that’s all you need. It’s not art. But it’s real. And that’s rarer than you think.
