I wanted so bad for this to be a tenth as good as Astro Bot and it...Gets most of the way there. It is a lot of the same fun, but nothing will ever beat the polish of Astro Bot. I think it's largely an unfair comparison. This game is fun and I really enjoy it so far. I haven't checked out the co-op yet, but I'm excited to check it out when my Steam Machine gets in. Could end up being a really fun couch co-op game with my girl!

Boti: Byteland Overclocked, developed by Purple Ray Studio and published by Untold Tales alongside CouchPlay Interactive, is a colorful 3D platformer that blends classic collectathon design with a playful, tech-inspired setting. Framed around the idea of exploring the inner workings of a digital world, the game casts players as Boti, a cheerful data robot navigating the vibrant landscapes of Byteland to restore order after a system-wide corruption. The premise is light and whimsical, but it provides a cohesive thematic backdrop that ties together its mechanics, environments, and collectible-driven progression. At its core, Boti: Byteland Overclocked is built on the foundations of late 1990s and early 2000s 3D platformers. Movement is central to the experience, and Boti’s toolkit is surprisingly versatile. Players can jump, double jump, dash, glide, hover, and interact with magnetic or environmental objects, creating a movement system that feels fluid and satisfying once mastered. The game encourages players to chain abilities together to reach hidden platforms or secret areas, rewarding curiosity and spatial awareness. While the controls are approachable for newcomers, the layered traversal options offer enough flexibility to make exploration engaging rather than repetitive. Level design is structured around semi-open hub-style worlds that branch into themed stages. Each environment reflects a stylized interpretation of digital concepts—circuits, processors, data streams—translated into bright landscapes filled with platforms, hazards, and collectible items. The visual direction embraces bold colors and smooth character animation, giving the game a friendly, almost toy-like aesthetic. Rather than striving for realism, it focuses on clarity and charm, ensuring that platforms, obstacles, and interactable objects are easy to identify even amid busy backdrops. Collectibles are central to progression, functioning both as optional rewards and mandatory milestones. Players gather megabytes, keys, and hidden items that unlock new paths or advance the storyline. This system reinforces exploration, pushing players to revisit areas and experiment with newly unlocked abilities. The pacing strikes a balance between guided progression and open-ended wandering, allowing players to decide whether to complete stages thoroughly or move forward more quickly. For completionists, uncovering every hidden item provides additional longevity and satisfaction. One of the game’s standout features is its seamless cooperative mode. A second player can join the adventure at any time without disrupting progress, transforming the experience into a shared journey. Cooperative play introduces playful teamwork and coordination during platforming challenges, and the system adapts smoothly whether one or two players are active. This flexibility makes the game particularly well-suited for couch gaming sessions, where casual collaboration enhances the sense of fun and discovery. The soundtrack and audio design complement the digital theme with energetic and upbeat compositions. Sound effects for movement and interactions reinforce the mechanical setting while maintaining a light tone. Character dialogue is cheerful and supportive, though occasionally repetitive over extended play sessions. The narrative itself is simple and accessible, prioritizing charm over complexity. It provides enough structure to motivate progression without overwhelming the player with exposition. However, Boti: Byteland Overclocked is not without its shortcomings. Performance inconsistencies have been noted by players, particularly regarding frame rate stability and optimization on certain systems. Given the precision required in platforming sequences, such issues can occasionally disrupt flow. Additionally, minor bugs and collision quirks may appear in some levels, slightly diminishing the otherwise polished presentation. While these issues do not fundamentally undermine the experience, they can affect immersion and challenge consistency. Despite these technical rough edges, the game succeeds in capturing the spirit of classic 3D platformers while introducing modern conveniences such as drop-in co-op and fluid traversal mechanics. It does not attempt to radically reinvent the genre, but rather refines and celebrates its foundational elements. The combination of colorful environments, collectible-focused design, and accessible cooperative play makes it particularly appealing to players seeking a lighthearted and family-friendly adventure. Ultimately, Boti: Byteland Overclocked stands as a vibrant homage to traditional platforming experiences, infused with a distinctive digital identity. Its strengths lie in its movement system, imaginative world-building, and social gameplay features, even if technical imperfections occasionally hold it back from full potential. For fans of exploratory 3D platformers who appreciate charm, creativity, and cooperative play, it offers an enjoyable and energetic journey through a lively cybernetic landscape. Rating: 7/10

It' very pretty and colorful, an easy game but I guess it's more for kids. Could use a speed run mode.

It's a fun little platforming game, heavily inspired by Astro Bot on PS5 and even Sackboy. But this game is slightly buggy with a lot of achievement not working the way they should. I still don't have the final audio which you're suppose to pick up during a cutscene but i think because i skipped the cutscene, it didn't pick it up. The water (or whatever it is) vehicle is just atrocious to control. The magnetic metal plates in the later levels are just the worst. Those slime things that slow you down for 2 hours shouldn't be in the game, or the slow they give shouldn't be this long. The game is missing a lot of basic information, which makes you get stuck in some portions of the game. Even with all those issues, I'd still recommend it. It is fun in spite of those issues, and most of those are very nitpicky on my part.
