I didn't have high hopes when I first started playing since it felt a little rushed, but it turned out to be one of the funniest visual novels I've ever played. The characters are really unique with their own cute and funny qualities that they stick to religiously throughout the whole story. The voice acting is really good and it was overall a really fun experience. Don't expect a deep meaningful story with plots that keep you up at night or a meaningful, detailed love story- but if you want a chuckle or two with some cute and small romantic moments in your free time, I'd say give it a shot! The only negative points in my opinion are that I do wish it was a little longer and had more character development because all these characters are so uniquely hilarious and I would have loved to learn more about them. I hope there will be a second game eventually, because I'd love to see these guys again in a future setting! P.S. Ranmaru best boy <3 I enjoyed this more than I should, haha. I give this one an 8/10!

So, full disclosure: Can I Not Fall for Idols? is my very first otome game. I have nothing to compare it to other than self-insert fanfic, the first few episodes of Tamon's B-Side , and thirty-odd years of being super awkward when anyone (real or pixelated) expresses romantic interest in me. Story + Gameplay Aida Mei, selective amnesiac and new manager of fledgling idol group Melonchu, apparently exudes idol-attracting pheromones; as a result, she's now responsible for three would-be popstars who want nothing more than to wife her up and move to suburbia. Since idol culture is a whole thing, the company accountant makes it clear: Aida must reject the boys' advances by making critical choices when they display "love flags," or else Melonchu's upcoming live show will fail. Controls. Both mouse and controller work well. Playtime. ~1 hour to an ending. What Works For Me ✅ The goal is to reject romantic overtures. ✅ So many rom-com cliches! Also, it's kinda funny. ✅ Fantastic Japanese voice acting. ✅ (8) possible endings. ✅ "Playroom" is sort of a fantasy mode/continuation? ✅ I… uh… have a thing for guys who help in the kitchen. What Doesn't Work For Me 🟥 Too much instalove, especially with Issa. 🟥 Ranmaru and Otoha are high school students. 🟥 I need a translator for Otoha. No, but really. 🟥 Here, "assertive" means "flirty," not "go away." 🟥 Cast commentary does not have English subtitles :( 🟥 No achievements. Final Thoughts + Recommendation I've been desperate for some silly wholesome fun lately, so when the lovely Amjara shared a [url=https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198018894642/recommended/4067070/]much more informed and useful review that described this as a sort of anti-dating otome with bonus idols, I immediately purchased it. It never even hit my wishlist. I went on to speed-run the game through a successful concert and the "real ending" while enjoying my morning caffeine injection; it took only ~50 minutes. It was goofy and full of cliches, including some that made me roll my eyes so hard I saw my cerebellum, but it was also very cute and heartwarming. While I was initially charmed by Ronmaru's affinity for cats, I was put off by the reveal that he's a high school student (context matters; since "you" are the protagonist, this elder otome-newbie felt a moral obligation to sneak grated vegetables into baked goods), and probably won't go back for the other endings anytime soon. Still, for the price, I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys the Tamon's B-Side anime or is looking to dip their toe into the water of romance VNs. The voice acting is so well done, and I genuinely had fun with the sheer ridiculousness. I really liked this game it was so funny and cute. Silly moments happen and it made me laugh. Reminded me of Tamon B side, I do recommend this game! It's a short novel and so worth it!

This VN is hilarious, with great voice acting, and a lighthearted story. The English localization is really well done when it comes to adapting jokes and online slang, which is a relief. Also, Reiji supremacy :p

An otome game where dating is a no-no with a “no dating” rule. An interesting twist in the otome genre. Gameplay & Settings So in your chance meeting with the members of the group Melonchu they all fall for you (love at first site x 3)? You're their new manager and the rule in the office is no dating between the staff and the idols. So your job is to make their affection for you go down, as opposed to up. So you need to tame three lovesick puppies and keep them acting professional. It is a light-hearted novel and pretty humorous overall. Definitely a different take on the genre. I admit I was laughing at a few parts. I found it easy overall to either boost their affections or deflate them as most choices given to you during the conversations only have two responses. 🌶️ Spice Level - light on the spice. A few bits of flirty banter but more cute than spicy. Settings & extras include; audio controls for the background music, voice volume, special effects and the ability to turn on and off each character's voice. There is also text speed, auto skip options and display options. Unlockables include an endings list, playroom, cast commentaries, cg gallery and songs. There are eight endings (variations for some) with 8 cg’s to match. The Visuals & Audio I really like the character artworks in this game, anime style with a colorful palette. The novel is voice acted (in Japanese only) with some ambient sounds to flesh out the world (birds chirping, crowds cheering etc.) along with a soundtrack that sounds mainly electronic. However I do really enjoy the song that plays during the credits. I found the story light-hearted, enjoyable and for the most part humorous. All these hotties are in love with you at first sight and your job is to reject them. I failed miserably in one play-through and ended up tanking their success (and I do not regret it). However I did continue on and managed to get a good ending with all of the characters while keeping the group a success. The cg’s are beautiful and worth the replay to get the good endings with each character.
