Very fun and useful for learning the basics of working on cars. Not even close to 100% accurate but more than good enough for someone who doesn't know much to begin with. It is basically a great start for learning. Also, the gameplay loop is pretty good. It's not just a good learning tool. It's an actually good game. I grabbed it for 1 euro during the most recent sale and I have to say, at that price especially, it is impossible to complain.
I bought the game to learn about how the cars work and how to repair them as a car owner. I stopped playing 3-4 times. All the time the problem was it taking too much time to remove the bolts of the tyres. (It is a repetetive task and it wastes time.) After a small car accident and taking it to the mechanic; My IRL car broke down again. I wanted to better understand my own car and how they fixed it. So I wanted to try the game before taking it to the mechanic again. Same thing again forced me to quit the game. Searched the web for a mod, cheat or something else to change that time wasting part of the game in my gameplay. I learned that only current solution to my discomfort is to bypass character progression and turning your in-game character from a new and progressing mechanic to a fully equipped, master mechanic by opening up a new profile with a specific name. I did it. Now, It suits my expectations from it and I love the game. *mentioned profile name: cms2018promo
Car Mechanic Simulator 2018; Is a good game for car people, but not a great game for achievement hunters. The best part is building up cars. Taking an old wreck, stripping it down, replacing parts, fixing the engine, suspension, brakes, bodywork, and then turning it into a finished car is really satisfying. If you are into cars, that side of the game is amazing. The Steam Workshop support also makes it even better because you can mod in your favourite cars and make the garage feel more personal. The main gameplay loop is fun. You take repair jobs, inspect cars, find broken parts, order replacements, unlock better tools, expand your garage, and eventually restore cars from barns, auctions, and junkyards. Players should keep in mind that this is a repetitive game by design. You are repairing, replacing, rebuilding, and restoring cars over and over, so you need to enjoy that kind of loop to get the most out of it. The story jobs are a nice idea, but after a few of them they start to feel like long shopping lists instead of fun missions. The 100% completion is where the game really falls apart for me. The achievements feel like an afterthought, and the grind is ungodly bad. It got to the point where I was using macros overnight just to push progress, which says a lot about how painful the achievement hunt becomes. I would only recommend Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 to people who love working on cars or enjoy detailed repair sims. As a car-building game, it can be great. As a 100% completion game, it is not worth it.
