Despite how it looks, this is a very complex and punishing survival game. You go from hoarding coconuts as your only source of food to eventually farming vegetables and keeping livestock. You go from sleeping on a crappy bed of leaves and having monkeys stealing your belongings, to eventually building your own house with a shed and a nice bed. The mechanics constantly surprised me with how in-depth they are. You might think you hit the jackpot when you find a few banana trees but your character will start getting depressed if you force them to eat literally nothing but bananas for days. If you try to live off coconuts too much you'll get diarrhea. It's actually possible to make certain animals go extinct if you keep hunting the same kinds over and over. Rainfall is super important for your consistent water source but it's totally random whether it rains or not. I didn't realise this until I went over a month in one game without any rain. At first this seemed really harsh but I think it's better for gameplay as it teaches you not to rely on one source of water/food/protection etc and to constantly be thinking of ways to diversify or to prepare for emergencies. The only thing I struggle with in this game is repetitiveness. There are different characters or even custom characters that work slightly differently but ultimately you are still in the same jungle with the same locations and same animals and same research tree. So I'll have a lot of fun playing a game for 10~ hours then die stupidly because I lost track of time in the middle of the jungle and couldn't find my way home or something like that, but I need to wait a few months to try again otherwise it feels too same-y. I wish the dev would come out with more iterations of this game like medieval fantasy style so I can swap between them :)

This is quite possibly the best survival game I have ever played. And all you do is move cards. (Goes to show graphics is nothing, gameplay is everything.) The depth of the experience, the need to survive day by day, by patiently, gradually building everything you need to make it... the different tropical environments, different animals, skills you need to level up - it's just all so satisfying. There is a lot of grind in this game, but it's grind that doesn't feel pointless. Also, a note if you don't like games that are too "big" (both map-wise and in terms of complexity) - this game is NOT overwhelming. There isn't a million things coming at you at the same time, you're not timed - as in, you can think about an action however long you want, time doesn't pass until you click on the action. That makes it a relaxing experience, even if it does feel that the stakes are high - as the game is pretty brutal (unless you play on the easiest level). You're also only controlling one character, so you get invested in them and don't have to be managing a whole colony of million survivors. In a nutshell - this game's low on chaos, high on difficulty and satisfaction :) I would recommend it to anyone who likes the survival genre.

After maybe an hour of playing the game, I'm already convinced this is the best survival game out there on the market. It does not hold your hand, there is a lot of complexity involved. It seems to be very well balanced with great pace and you don't feel rushed because the time is based on your actions. I did not perform well my first go around and things quickly got out of hand simply because I neglected more important things while making relatively unimportant things like weaving fiber to make baskets. I died after 4 days. I had a great experience anyway, and the game is very immersive. it's just an absolutely brilliantly designed game. I'm gonna dump a lot of hours into this I already know lol.

15 bucks for a card game that looks like something my daughter made in programming class? doesn't feel worth... or so i thought. this game is suspiciously addictive and is mandatory for anyone who likes the survival genre. what it does with simple and intuitive gameplay beat what many prettier games. this game does draw a lot of inspiration from green hell and other first / third person survival games, but surpasses them in terms of simulation depth. don't let the card system fool you, it's just as deep / time consuming if not more so than the others. i was tempted to buy the game again on android just to feed the addiction

Pretty good game. It's super addictive, but also held back a little by some UI/UX problems; not a dealbreaker (for me). Initially incredibly hard and you will die to surprise mechanics if you go in completely blind (hello, wet/dry seasons ). This game is all about managing your hydration, your hunger, and your health otherwise - including (perhaps especially?) mental health. Your activities throughout the day and general progression are more or less gated by the aforementioned stats plus stamina. By default there are four characters to play, but you can also create a character. As you survive on any playthrough, you get currency to unlock perks for custom characters. The goal of any playthrough is to complete objectives in your journal and then ultimately either escape the island or settle on it. There's minimal handholding and is otherwise extremely open-ended; so much that it might invoke analysis paralysis. I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing, but is something that a prospective buyer should be aware of. Exploring the island is basically like pulling slots or a gachapon, but you only have to pay in-game stamina to play and if you get too tired, you can rest and keep pulling exploring. Reminder to explore in moderation. Unlocking new blueprints for better equipment kind of feels like an engine builder board game, to the extent that once you get far enough along, you have to switch gears from engine building to actively winning. Luckily you don't have to figure out the when part of this yourself; the game tells you once you've completed enough journal objectives. The only complaint I have about this game is that a lot of mechanics are completely opaque. Morale, stress, bacteria fever, malaria, how do they even work? They (and a few other stats) are not obvious and I've lost multiple tourist playthroughs to malaria alone, despite reading others' tips and experiences on the Steam forums. Fortunately (or not), there is a mod on Nexusmods (Detailed Card Progress) that reveals everything behind the curtain, but it kind of takes away a lot of the game's "magic". I hope that the developer's next game strikes a better balance for this. The demo (CS:TI First Days) gives you mostly everything you need to know about this game; I played it for half an hour and was completely sold. Try it out!
