Update 08/22/2026: I played again last week and the AI seems to be fixed. *claps* I had my first tough match... that I ended up losing. *woot woot* Update 07/15/2026: Ok, so the AI in this game is some of the worst I've seen in a chess game. On level three or four, all the AI would do is jump out the left knight then jump it right back the next turn. It did this for multiple turns. Then, once it jumped and didn't jump back to it's starting position, the left rook just started moving side to side between its position and the knight's original position. Again, for multiple turns. Also, you can pretty much plan for the AI to make the most obvious, but at the same time dumb choices. I've had queens go after pawns when there are multiple other pieces that will take it out once it does. And, it's not as if it's a last ditch effort sort of thing. This happens even if they have lost next to no pieces. It's insanely easy to "trick" enabling you to take a lot of their best pieces early on. I've yet to find any kind of difficultly slider. Maybe it's because I'm playing the campaign and each level is supposed to have an increase in difficulty, but I'm on level six now, and it's just as braindead as level one. The only reason I even stopped playing on level six is because the game glitched out and the only thing I could do was ALT+F4. The game board loaded up, but didn't zoom out to actually start the match. Then it went into fast forward mode, which I could not get out of. When you hit escape it wouldn't let me leave because it said you needed to wait for the animation to finish before you can. So yeah. I'm honestly beginning to think this game might have been made using AI. I'm still not going to set my review to not recommended, but like I said originally, this is mid. Hopefully online will be better. Original Review 07/14/2026: This needs a mid option. I bought the supporter edition of this game. I've played chess for decades off and on. I'm no master or anything, but I like it. One thing this game needs is a hover piece type. I mean, you can't zoom in or pan close enough, and the pieces are, at least for me, kinda tough to tell what their "real equivalent" is. You need to be able to hover over or click on a piece to see what it is. It shows you where you can move when you click on it, but that doesn't really help. I don't want to click on multiple pieces to see what they are. Honestly, outside of pawns an bishops, the pieces aren't easy to quickly determine. Again, this may be a "me" problem, but I honestly feel it is an oversite. I've played a lot of "not chess piece" chess games all the way back to Battle Chess, but this is the only one I find difficult to easily distinguish the pieces. I guess that's my only real complaint. Well, maybe the public domain music, but honestly, most of the time I'll just mute that. I love cats. The first cat I adopted just passed away at the time of this review, so yeah. I'm not going to refund or give this a negative review, but a few QoL improvements would be appreciated. Meow in solidarity
For Readers: Already a regular chess player but this game is adorable! I love it! It's just chess but it makes it a little more interesting to play, especially for someone like me with ADHD. Every little detail is so distracting and there's so much to take in all at once that it just makes me so happy every time I play. The cats fight, play with toys, and look at you when you select them. It's beyond adorable. For the game devs: What I'd love to see is a tutorial, as there's a good chance this game may be someone's first experience with chess. A bit more customization on individual chess pieces might be fun! Different crowns for house cats or decorations that can be earned. An extended or additional campaign would be nice! Maybe with a bit of personality? Like different ELO levels or preferred openings. A larger variety of animations. Maybe you could customize where the pieces go when you capture them? Or the environment around the board? Maybe daily challenges or something? I just love this concept so much and i want a lot of stuff to do while playing chess Well done on the game. I absolutely love this game! I love cats, I love chess, and I was a huge fan of Battle Chess: Game of Kings, so this game was basically made for me. As a semi-professional chess player, I'd also like to give some feedback from the perspective of the game's target audience, chess beginners. First of all, the animations are adorable and really well done. However, there are only a few of them, so they can start to feel repetitive after a while. Adding more capture animations would go a long way toward keeping the game fresh. I also love the laser pointer and yarn ball interactions, but again, a few more animations would make them even better. The main menu could also use a bit more polish to match the charm of the rest of the game. Now for the gameplay. I played through the entire campaign, and it felt a little too easy. In almost every level, the AI blundered its queen within the first three moves. I understand that this game is aimed at beginners, but that's a bit excessive. I think levels 6–10 should be noticeably stronger. The AI doesn't need to play perfect chess, but it should at least avoid hanging its queen, make more realistic mistakes, and occasionally create its own attacking ideas. That would make the learning experience much more rewarding without making the game frustrating for new players. Overall, I genuinely love this game and had a great time playing it. With a bit more polish, more animation variety, and slightly stronger AI in the later levels, I honestly think this could become one of my all-time favorite games. I really hope the developers continue improving it.
I honestly didn’t expect to spend 6 hours playing a chess game with cats, but here we are. I originally bought it because it looked cute, and I thought it would be something fun to play for an hour or two. Instead. I kept coming back to it Before this game, I was pretty bad at chess. I knew the basic rules, but I never really understood strategy and usually made random moves. After just a few hours of playing, I noticed I was making much better decisions and actually thinking ahead. The game somehow teaches you naturally without making it feel like you’re studying, which I really appreciate The cat animations, sounds, and overall atmosphere are adorable without being distracting Everything feels cozy and polished, and it makes learning much more enjoyable. It’s the kind of game that’s easy to relax with, but it’s also satisfying to see yourself improving over time If you’re like me and always wanted to get better at chess but found it intimidating, I definitely recommend giving this game a try. Thank you to the developers for creating such a fun, charming, and surprisingly educational experience!
