The original Slavjank. Plays like a halfway hybrid of Doom and Quake; while all of the levels are nearly entirely flat, there is a degree of freedom in player agency, such as the ability to ponder the Y axis. There are neat weather and environmental effects, like rain and spinning turbines. Most importantly, the arsenal feels meaty and powerful. The standard shotgun is a beast, and it only gets better from there. This was also one of first shooters to feature dismemberment; i.e. the ability to blow off chunks of baddies, or knock them on their butts just to have them get back up and continue the fight. I'm not sure but I'm fairly certain this predates Quake II. Is it unfair? Often. Is it possible to soft-lock yourself? Absolutely. Is it worth playing for any FPS aficionado? 100%.

I bought this game back in 1997 or '98 when I lived in Turkiye and still have it on CD to this day. Although the game fascinated me, I never made a ton of progress because the unpatched jank was infuriating and I'd just lose interest. I've revisited it countless times over the decades--always having fun for a level or two, then getting pissed off at something. My hopes for this remake were low but I've been playing the game frequently since buying it and I'm so far into it now that I guarantee I'll finish it. These (new) devs have really brought this game to life in a way that the original developers probably couldn't given resources and time-constraints. This "new" version is very fun--it runs smooth, without bugs (so far), and is perfect on modern hardware. Unlike most modern "boomer shooters," Chasm seems 100% authentic to the mid-to-late 90s--with all that entails. You better be hitting F6 to quick-save OFTEN because you'll be hitting F9 (quick-load) frequently. Chasm can be a difficult game that many younger gamers might consider tough/unfair. Look, the level design is questionable and often maze-like, the environmental puzzles can be rage-inducing, and there are many aspects of Chasm that might provoke you to rage-quit. But that's how the game was designed so either get good or go home. As someone who has played this game on & off for 28 years, this remake is extremely impressive. It preserves the original graphics perfectly, and the (new) devs have fixed the jank, tweaked the mechanics *just enough* to balance it and done a perfect job preserving the authenticity. Chasm: The Rift was never a *great* game, but it had lots of cool technical tricks, solid weapons, and lots of potential that was never realized because it sold poorly and the (original) devs didn't have the resources to patch it. This new version from Action Forms really fixes the issues that frustrated me for 28 years and I'm FINALLY having a great time blasting my way through it. And like I said earlier--it plays EXACTLY how a game from 1997 should play (both good & bad)--it's an extremely faithful (and fun) remake--HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

i think it's a great game but the level design is very awful and confusing, at which make me jump for final boss already, i was enjoying some places and vice-versa but the design level is not good at all, though this game is oldschool i do recommend for who has more pacience than me and its fair for play it also the game plays in very hard difficulty even if you play in easy mode. 6/10

This has a Quake vibe that drew me in, it is not as polished but it is undeniably fun and addicting. Highly recommended.

Despite being labelled as just another Quake clone, this is just a genuinely neat product.
