It is "play at your own pace" and there is no means to "pay to win." Chat is active and helpful. The developer updates often, and occasionally engages in chat. There's really no way to do it "wrong," some people enjoy very fast progression and they can, others enjoy a slower paced progression and that works just as well. One of the best idle games I've ever played.
