A nice Librarian-like that's fun for art lovers. It's satisfying picking up a piece and noticing immediately "oh this is definitely from Starry Night/from a Klimt/looks like The Scream but with different colors" and being able to use that knowledge to make progress. That said, there are some drawbacks here that still make Librarian the better game. For example in Librarian, books of a genre look consistent (e.g. all white, all have a gem on the cover, etc.), whereas different series look and are named different, and each book is numbered, which allows you to know pretty quickly that, for example, THIS book should go on THAT shelf in the 4th spot. In the Puzzle Gallery, you may end up with a stack of nondescript black puzzle pieces (sidenote: I never noticed how much black there is in Girl with a Pearl Earring until now), and you have to drag the piece around the canvas until it lights up and you can snap it into place. Some paintings have few enough pieces or very distinct edge-to-edge content (e.g. Sunflowers) where you know exactly how the piece should be oriented and where it should go, but a LOT of the game is dragging too-similar pieces around a canvas. If you're like me and hooked on the genre of "there are 3000 things on the floor and they aren't going to pick themselves up" then this is a recommend for you. It's got challenges, relaxing music, and pretty art. But it's a step down from what made Librarian work so well.
A really good Librarian-like which introduces putting puzzle pieces together as a more complicated version of simply putting something on a shelf. My only concern is that the amount of puzzle pieces you can hold at the start is too little, as I like to go around and collect same-looking items, but until x amount of upgrades you don't get the comfortable number of holding at least 5 at once. Otherwise I like how it scratched my brain with the same focus as the original Librarian did, and it also taught me some distinctive features of how to identify these famous artists. I recommend.
Fans of Arcane Library will get the same Dopamine hit from this. What surprised me is that by the end, I could pick up a piece and say, "that looks like a Degas" or "Thats a Lautrec" or even, "That's The Park". I feel like I actually got better at art recognition. Bring on DLC of other painters!
For those who have an "organize all the thingies" itch to scratch, this game certainly does the job, and frankly does it better than most other games in that genre. However, for those who don't know, there's one amazing thing that 1,000,000% puts this game above the rest: YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN PICTURES TO MAKE A CUSTOM PUZZLE GALLERY!!! I'm currently doing a playthrough where people in my streaming community sent me pictures of their pets, and I gave all the pictures artsy names like "The Boop" or "The Big Stretch". We are LOVING IT . Custom mode is EVERYTHING, and anyone who says different is a charlatan. Incredible job on this one, dev!
