I'll go straight into it. Yes, the voicework is...a source of entertainment in its own way. Yes, the dashing-slash attack the planes do is incredibly annoying. Yes, that first turret mission is genuinely a streak-ruiner, but three bad things aren't a dream killer. Behind those flaws lies a fun shooter, harkening back to earlier plane shoter games, that just hits the spot. it's doable in 3 hours. The story is light, but present, and the character work is actually quite good. Ackworth and Gilroy are probably the best voiced, and written characters in the game, and do stick with you. Now, i do have a bit of a cheat with the story of this game. I play this, then he first two Medal of Honor games, to beef out the WWII storyline. It's a...unique strat, but by seeing it as a sort of trilogy just helps tighten it a bit. On normal, the game does assist you with a reticule, in a similar way to Colony Wars II: Vengeance. However, it can be turned off on Hard Mode. The AI is another league of crazy. Some pilots just fly off to the edge of the map, then circle back, while others lock onto you or your allies. The only times i had difficulty with attacking something, wasn't to do with the AI, it was ground targets. Cos, let me tell you. Missiles and torpedoes rarely work. You gotta use them pea-shooters. This gets easier with the Spitfire and Hurricane, and the Whirlwind to an extent, but it seems to be the best, and most efficient way to do it. Whilst a WWII shooter, the enemy isn't really so menacing, unlike others of the genre. Rather than being the disgusting evil we know them as from history, they're just cannon fodder. I think that comes down to the music. There are only three tracks that play during the game. Menu, approach, and engagement. Where's Michael Giacchino when you need him? No offence to the game's composer. Poor guy was probably on a very tight deadline. This game reuses levels more than Munch's Oddysee (a game notorious for this issue). The second half spruces it up, but it can be a wait to get there. Also, it was 2006. So, that X-BOX 360-style bloom-flare is everywhere in the daytime levels. Despite its flaws, I can't help coming back to it. Maybe it's because I used to watch my brother play other games of this type when I was younger. Maybe it's cos its so insane that its just fun to revel in the chaos. Maybe I just like gunning down pilots so bored even popping the parachute seems like a monotone affair. Who knows? All I know is it has to be seen to be believed.
