I really love this remaster. I played the original back in the day a lot, and this is a mostly faithful update. I love that the graphics are updated, and there are some nice quality of life improvements. Such as not having to upgrade each room one stage at a time - you can just spam the purchases button and it queues it. I do think they have removed some of the difficulties of the original though. Residents seem easier to please. The clown house doesn't kill repairmen. And other little things. As such even on original mode it feels a bit easier. I'd love to be able to remove the mourning sounds when a resident dies, though. Hearing that repeatedly I find stressful.
