This is a review for all your games in general, because I see this mistake a lot on your games. If you change the resolution, the text also changes. This means that if the game is set to a lower resolution than its native resolution, the text becomes illegible. please do not change the text resolution, thank you
Papers Please BUT in 3D? No, It's much more complicated than that. PROS + Main highlight of the game is it's gameplay which is a border immigration officer simulator (in Soviet Russia): Your main job is to let in only people with legal documents. You have to check if there's any discrepancies with their passport, vehicle registration, or cargos by checking each one of them. You will be equipped with a flashlight, bluelight for hidden contraband, and a pen & paper to jot down their total cargo. + In the campaign, the difficulty of immigration progresses as days go by. Game gives you complications (like epidemics, or other political problems) which are fun as heck. + Aside from the main loop of border police simulation, there is also the open world sandbox aspect of it which starts after your day job where you can roam around the country side buying or selling stuff, exploring, or delivering prisoners or confiscated contraband. Simulator games of today actually do this quite often BUT a lot also do it poorly. + There are also mandatory varied main quests that you need to do that advance the story, they are varied from shoot outs to detective missions; forgot to add that there are also mandatory "invasion" incidents that happen inside your barracks where rebels initiate gunfights. + Endless mode for those who are looking to be border officers full time + Game has very good performance. Well, it should since it's an old game lol PC Specs for reference: GPU: RTX 4060ti CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3500X RAM: DDR4 SDRAM HIT OR MISS ? There are also random OPTIONAL side quests which you can accept or ignore that are mostly find hidden stuff or shoot outs that reward you significantly money-wise. The hidden stuff missions are tedious and repetitive at times ? Game's main faction system isn't really complicated where you just choose Side A or Side B after every main mission to determine your allegiance. ? I liked the graphics but it has that weird 2019 simulator game advertisement graphics which looks great on a real game lol ? Game gives you a complicated morality system where immigrants give you a story of life & death. It's up to you if you want to help them or risk someone getting in with illegal documents BUT the game also does not give you massive consequences for whatever you chose. Instead, ending will weigh heavily on your faction choice CONS - The game gives you a lot of fire fights sequences BUT the sound design on the guns are all flat lol. Pistols sound almost the same as an AK47 Didn't think I would like it as much as I did. The game is suprisingly polished, gameplay wise, and the devs are looking to release a DLC for it too which I am looking forward to. Main story also didn't drag itself too long and is not too convoluted for a game about politics. Simply put, Lawful Good is NOT Lawful Nice. Giving it a 4/5
This game is... okay. If I have to pick one or the other, I would recommend it for a certain type of person. Imagine if you were playing Papers Please and thought 'This really needs some FPS elements'. That's sort of what happened here. While Papers Please was designed to be a tighter experience, this game tries to take the same concept of checking papers at a border crossing in a pseudo-soviet state and expand it further. The game does give you a lot of stuff to do outside of just inspections. Your checkpoint is only one part of a larger map, so you do things like drop contraband you've confiscated off at a police station and drive prisoners to the labor camp. In the story mode you'll even go on missions to different locations. Your checkpoint will also be attacked on occasion, and you'll be expected to shoot at enemies to defend your station. There are a variety of things to upgrade, and if you like the core loop, you'll be set. Like any inspection style game though, it can get monotonous if it's not what you're looking for. Though this isn't the most graphically impressive or immersive game, you can tell the developers really put some effort into this. While gameplay can be a bit clunky or stilted at times, the effort does shine through.
