April 2025
Despite the positive recommendation, I'm going to be a bit critical of this one. I landed on positive though because I feel that they got the most important bits right... it's just a lot of the polish that is missing. First off before anything else though, this really screams multiplayer. The single player version just gives you AI companions in some areas that take the place of other players. Honestly this appears to be a game that was designed from the bottom up with multiplayer in mind. If you are simply looking for a good solo campaign... I think there are perhaps better choices. Or at least choices that won't feel quite like single player was a secondary thought process, like it kinda does here. But it is a good game, and I do plan to play through it single player, so you can be the judge. First off, what they did right. The action here works really well. I love the basic controls for melee and ranged combat, the form changing is great, the various animals I've gotten to play as all feel and act different. You seem to get good xp which means you are frequently unlocking new ability points and taking your build in a specific direction you are interested in. The dashing works well, although be aware this is one of those games where enemy bodies block dashing, so you have to be good at picking your directions. I really like how they integrated stable aiming with twin stick aiming for ranged, that was a really cool idea they had and it works out well. Overall I think the combat is fine, and that's the most important part of the game. The progression seems interesting and fun as well. The graphics are good, although the animations... not so much. More on that below. But in general, the map and the world look great. The special abilities and elemental effects are great, well done there. Light reflections are ok... I've seen better, but they did a pretty good job with it. Most of what I've seen though is darker areas with a lot of glowing effects, and they look fantastic. Of particular note, they outlined the enemy models in a black border. This really helps them stand out against the background, and while it does give the game a unique look to it.... the models look almost like stickers on a background.... I actually think it's somewhat charming, and I think the visual aid is more important than anything else. So I'm a fan of this. This is very much a passion project from essentially two people, and I think they did a great job overall. But I'm still going to be honest with my critiques below. 1. This is a full release, not an EA release... but it screams early access. I ran into a number of bugs that probably shouldn't exist if this is a full release. I feel like there is also a lot of opportunity for further graphical optmization, whether that be textures or lighting or whatever. This game takes far more resources than it should to produce a stable framerate, and even then you do get some dropping. You can dip the settings down, but again this is not a problem that should be placed on the players' lap. The game needs some resource optimization work. As an example of one of the graphical bugs I ran into, there is a glitch with the character model when swimming. It's pretty persistent, although your character does flash in and out a bit, but generally it just looks all wrong. They look kind of like they are deep underwater, but somehow there's a floating head and shadow on the surface, and then occasionally you'll see the body on the surface, then the head will disappear... it's really odd. Now I'm not sure if this is resolution or graphics setting specific, I didn't try testing that... but it shouldn't exist in a full release. This is early access level stuff, and honestly is too basic of an issue to let out the door. There's also what felt like inconsistencies in attack timing and range that become pretty obvious with some combat animations, specifically tail swiping. I guess this could be a balance thing, but it's a bit more inconsistent than I feel like it should be. Your mileage may vary here. 2. The character model animations are.... not very good. For 98% of the game, you are looking at your character model running. The animals look ok, but the human running animation looks like a stiff puppet with motorized shoulders. They don't lean forward into the run as much as they should for how much their arms and legs pump, and I think that's really what struck me. They look like a stiff, upright mannequin on swinging legs... it's just awkward. You know what it reminds me of, is someone with a bunch of spinal fusion going power walking. Again, it's not a game breaking problem but it's super annoying to me visually. 3. I hate the jumping. It just feels wrong in about every way to me. It's too short and stunted, and yet somehow in-game level changes that seem taller than your jump are possible to make. Jump attacking is a bizarre experience. Distances you can make are deceiving. Thankfully jumping is more of a navigational tool than a combat tool, but it's still not pleasant. Also, It's very obvious when they throw a broken bridge at you where you are supposed to sprint jump. I mean... I get it, but why bother? It's not really a surprise or a challenge, and it doesn't really add anything of value... I just feel like this was a game mechanic added in for game mechanic's sake, not something that really came about because it added value to the experience. Yeah, some jumps you need to make in cat form because you jump further. But again... that's not added value, it's just extra work because now you have to see the bridge, shift, walk back, build up a run, jump, then switch back to human where you perhaps wanted to be. It's kind of pointless tedium, if I'm honest. I'm not sure what sold them on adding this feature, because it doesn't appear to have a combat or other game function. 4. The voice acting is quite novice. They tried, and I'll give them credit. Too many game developers don't even try to go for voice acting. They did here, and they deserve kudos for it. But the voice actors were perhaps trying this for the first time? The tones and inflections are all off for how a normal person would speak in a conversation. These were clearly lines that were recorded in isolation by someone who was thinking too hard about emotional inflections. This breaks any sort of immersion, though honestly the game is light enough in that as it is. Again... not game breaking, just annoying. 5. The main story driver is a bit overused. A special item, passed down from the father. Carries special powers he never told anyone about! Oh and guess what... once you put them on, turns out they are broken and now you must go on a quest or they will destroy everything! But oh no... you cannot take them off. That will just make it worse! Total "The One Ring" kind of thing. I mean it works, but I would have liked something slightly more creative. Most people probably don't care about this, but I do and so I'm putting it here. After all is said and done, I do recommend this game because it is very fun once you get past some of the oddities like I said above. I hope they are continuing development and support, because the form changing stuff is pretty unique and I think they are on to something. As a small dev team, this is quite an accomplishment and I'm glad to spend money on it. I mean, even with the critiques I threw out above, I still bought the supporter pack. So yeah, I believe this game is worth it and if you like action RPG's, you should try it. Like I said at the beginning though, realize that this was first and foremost designed as a multiplayer game, and the single player experience suffers a bit from how obvious that fact is. Anyway, best of luck going forward to the developers, and I'll check back in regularly as I progress through the story.

Love the game! Had a ton of fun playing through the story and some post game grinding at the repeatable board missions. With the new updates its much easier to customize your build with all the additional levels. The combat feels smooth with the transitions between beast and human. My one major criticism would be to add additional slots for each beast type. It would be nice to be able to toggle to whichever one you need at the time for swimming, bashing walls, and whatnot. Its a bit frustrating to go into your inventory, find the specific form you want then swap over. Same idea with the elemental attacks during story mode. That was the only part of the game that really felt a bit clunky to me, even if you made it so you couldn't swap in combat but added a toggle outside of combat, that would be great. Thanks for making a really enjoyable game! Loving the new content and excited to try out the boss fight mode when it comes out!

An enjoyable Co-op game of a type many of us would like to see more of. The game was designed with Co-op in mind as opposed to it being an afterthought, so the ability to ride on, or be ridden by, your companions is a great addition to the more traditional cooperative abilities such as healing, shielding, and buffing. I would like to see more games involving playable creatures with a cooperative experience as a core feature and I hope to see continued updates for Coridden.

Coridden, an ode to beloved old school ARPGs and puzzle platformers with the spice of shapeshifting. If Diablo 2, Trine, and Animorphs were at a party, this game would be the aftermath. Overall a very fun game to play with another person, or 3 others. Excited for more updates and contents, and another great addition to coop games. +PROS: + A good casual ARPG entry, it's not easy, but not too difficult either. Not nearly as grindy as some other competitors. + Custom class maker with respecs available at the main town. Separate world and character saves. + Alternant system is reminiscent of Diablo 2's + Elder Scrolls' rune systems. Makes making any/most gear useable once forging is unlocked. + Creature subspecies adds on another variety to equipment and build synergies. + Puzzles and platforming aren't too difficult and can be solved solo in addition to coop. + Plenty of accessibility options + controller support. Devs are also very active on Discord to assist. -CONS: -No preview option for gear + hiding armor options. - Lack of camera control can lead to some awkward viewpoints and you can get stuck or lost due to said awkward angles. - Some may feel there's not enough creatures, with the current total only being 7. This may be subject to change in possible future updates. - Since the world save is independent only on the host's end , other players need to progress their own world to gain access to features and shops that are locked when not playing that host's save, even if they're using the same character save . -No personal customization if you're looking for that. There is some limited customization through gear, and no transmog option (at this time).

After two hours with Coridden and defeating the first boss I must say - I am impressed. The fact that a game with such a small dev team includes VISIBLE GEAR on our character, elaborate weapon and beast attack animations, different builds - it tells me that great care and love was put into the game. But let's try and put my experience so far into something digestable and easy to read: PROS: - Great graphics (especially for fans of neon-forests :D ) - Nice soundtrack - Many different character build options - WORKING COOP (which cannot be said for some AAA titles on launch...) - Fast paced, demanding combat - you'll be rolling, shooting, smacking, spellcasting and transforming all the time - LOOT - plenty of gear that changes your look as well (I need to add, that gear stats on equipment screen are some of the best presented stats I've seen in action rpg's - I want every game to tell me the exact speed of projectiles, and delay between them) CONS: - I have encountered occassional stuttering during some travel moments (but it can be my rig) - Introduction to the story and the world can be confusing at the start, as players are thrust into it without that much background - This game is clearly designed to be played with controller. I generally prefer playing with it, so it's not a problem for me, but if you don't have one expect a bit trickier controls
