March 2025
Corpse Factory is an underrated indie video game and psychological thriller visual novel with striking visual art, a gripping premise, and emotionally volatile characters who spiral deeper into paranoia and obsession. It heavily delves into the power of social media, the fragility of identity, and the dark extremes people will go to in the name of validation and revenge. Its gritty, collage-inspired art style, stylized character sprites and backgrounds, masterfully crafted ambient sound design and unnerving music score, and stellar voice acting help elevate the game from other visual novels. Corpse Factory shines the brightest in Act 1 by introducing a unique premise and successfully executing a morbidly fascinating narrative. Its clever, stoic, and manipulative protagonist, Noriko Kurosawa, is a psychologically complex and tragically relatable antihero. Her complicated relationships with the other characters, such as Tomoe Watanabe, Shinya Fujikawa, Aoi Satou, and the mysterious Kojiro, are layered and gradually evolve in unpredictable, engaging ways. The compelling plot twists in Act 1 also feel organic and genuinely shocking. However, after Act 1, Corpse Factory starts to lose its razor-sharp focus. The ambitious and sudden shift in perspective among the different characters in Acts 2 and 3 creates uneven pacing and weakens emotional momentum. Insufficient character development occurs, and plot twists become confusing. Corpse Factory's thematically dark and twisted finale ultimately resulted in rushed and ambiguous conclusive plot revelations. The lack of emotional catharsis, poor cohesion in storytelling, and underdeveloped foreshadowing make the ending unsatisfying and raise more questions than it answers, frustrating anyone who invested hours in hopes of reaching a proper conclusion. Thus, Corpse Factory is a bold and original psychological thriller visual novel that starts strong with an incredible atmosphere and a haunting premise but concludes with a stumbling finale.

If you found a website that allows you to request somebody's death, would you do it knowing that they could actually die after your request? All you need is a photograph and the phone number of your victim. About CORPSE FACTORY A psychological horror, CORPSE FACTORY is a visual novel which follows Noriko Kurosawa, a young adult working a white collared job at an office belonging to Temujin Corporation - Japan's third biggest banking corporation. On the outside, Noriko seems like a quiet, friendly person albeit a bit frail and malnourished. However, what nobody close around her knows is that she's stoic and that she runs Corpse Girl - a website recently rumored to be dedicated to accepting and fulfilling human death requests. Noriko is the one reviewing and fulfilling the death requests. Noriko refers to herself as "Corpse Girl" - like the website name. To you, what I just said implies that Noriko may be a mass murderer, right? Well, what if I told you that Corpse Girl has a history successfully fulfilling death requests while Corpse Girl's hands have never been stained with blood. Noriko has "grandiose fantasies of death and killing people without having to kill them all, without leaving her apartment, because the outside world is scary and there are people out there probably trying to kill her. " How is this possible? How can your hands stay dry and clean after murdering someone? How do you kill someone without killing someone? Read to find out! But wait! This visual novel isn't all about uncovering the art of killing without killing, there's more! In CORPSE FACTORY, you'll witness the growth of the Corpse Girl website receiving 1 to 10s of human death requests per day and how Corpse Girl tackles predicaments ( a police investigation, a copycat, hacking, betrayal and more ) along the way which threaten the continued operation and very existence of the Corpse Girl website! After all, as you can probably imagine, it isn't easy running a viral website openly admitting to committing illegal activity! It won't take long for the police to hear about this! Noriko takes pride in being Corpse Girl - she feels extraordinary power that isn't esoteric, arcane, holy, supernatural, witchcraft, sorcery or whatever. What she feels is a sense of grit and determination. Noriko wants everyone to acknowledge Corpse Girl's existence, keep the death requests up and coming by the day, and to be the only Corpse Girl out there. In other words, Noriko just wants to keep being the Corpse Girl that she envisions. Noriko thinks highly of Corpse Girl. My Review of CORPSE FACTORY CORPSE FACTORY? More like TWIST FACTORY! It's a game packed to the brim with plot twists! It's been a long while since I have read a visual novel with this many plot twists, I think it may be the number one most twisted visual novel I've read up until now. The twists are all climatic points, so I won't spoil all of them to ensure your entertainment isn't ruined, but I'd like to share my favorite twist with you. My favorite twist was even though it was non-canonical, Asuna Kurosawa (Noriko's mom) being alive in the hell ending. I like to imagine that there's a possibility that she's still miraculously canonically alive in the true ending. And you definitely can't just ignore how so closely connected the characters are with one another although the situation may seem the complete opposite on the outside. Although this game is perceived as a horror, it's really not that scary at all. On the contrary, I found it to be quite dramatic because I was actually on the brink of crying at many points throughout the visual novel. So many of the characters have had tragic experiences throughout their lives. Let me recap most of them for you to remember. The following spoilers are major : - Emi from the prologue was fired from her job because of Yuriko's selfishness. Not surprising for a girl with a criminal history. - Noriko: unintentionally murdered her own mother with Yuriko as children, was abandoned by Yuriko, was bullied by Emi, has a condition (likely relating to an eating disorder, depression or a psychological condition like dissociative identity disorder as suggested by Kojiro ) and regularly takes medication. - Shinya was sexually assaulted by a higher up coworker. - Aoi had her throat slit by her father and regularly envies Noriko for having what she doesn't. It was genuinely annoying to read all of Aoi's dialogues full of jealousy and resent so I didn't pay much attention, but her upbringing was sad nonetheless. - Kojiro lost Shizuko following a car running her over, it's also implied Shizuko may have broken up with Kojiro prior though, and you can't forget what he did with her body. And also, Kojiro's a lonely guy, he hates being lonely which is a feeling I personally can relate with in real life. He's willing to do whatever it takes for Noriko to love him and no longer be alone. - Tomoe acknowledges she isn't smart and that her voice doesn't sound the best and attributes it to her father. It gives me the impression that she isn't as self-confident as she seems. After 100% completing the game, I realized that the epilogue was foreshadowed so early on in the game when meeting Kojiro at the library, but I didn't realize it at the time! Grr! But more importantly, I am now craving for a sequel. I would love to read another work published by N. Sinclaire. But before presenting us a new story, you should first reveal how Sinclaire got involved with The Human Removal Service! How did Sinclaire get in the web of death of that organization? How did Sinclaire infiltrate The Human Removal Service and reach above the Heralds in rank? Why did Sinclaire save Noriko? Will Sinclaire cross ways with Noriko again or will Sinclaire permanently abandon her? Did Sinclaire plan this entire story from beginning to end before it took place or did Sinclaire join the boat and capitalize on the opportunity as Sinclaire witnessed it develop? And will Shinya and Tomoe track and arrest Sinclaire down? Will The Human Removal Service be stopped? We need answers! It's like you have a perfect recipe (enough material) for a sequel ready at hand! Lastly, I'd like to mention that I'm strongly satisfied with the true ending. I absolutely enjoyed witnessing Aoi - our annoying, insecure, checking-obsessed, whiny, little impersonator, brat being taken down as our last victim in the classic Corpse Girl fashion and I loved Noriko burying Aoi along with what caused this mess in the first place - the inspiration of Corpse Girl. It was truly a proper closure to Noriko's story. All in all, I loved this visual novel and invite you to give it a read sometime as well. It's worth reading, especially if you're into mystery or drama. The assigned genre isn't the most accurate in representing the content, in my opinion. Maybe a sequel can improve at being more horrific. Also, a sequel could use more choices. While the 3 choices in this game actually influence your ending, they're not a lot in number, I want more in a new game! Signing off with two screenshots I took and a quote! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3444959924 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3449243343 "I have listed the questions in order of importance. Please answer." - Kojiro Soz. It isn't that. I meant this: "I have listed my input in random order of importance. Please like." - S̶e̶r̶d̶a̶r̶ Kojiro Overall Rating: 10/10

This VN is so edgy and chaotic that it's honestly charming lol. It has a nice concept that got me hooked really quickly and kept me invested until the end but towards the second half the story kinda turned into a chaotic mess, at some point it felt like the authors couldn't decide which plot twist to choose so they just included ALL of them at the same time lmao. I decided to perceive the game as a horror/mystery-comedy (kinda like those horror movies with bad acting that are more funny than scary but still addicting to watch) and found it genuinely fun and enjoyable. After all, despite some unrealistically dramatic and edgy characters/plot aspects it's a pretty atmospheric game and still DOES feel like a decent, dark thriller story. It's probably not the best choice for those who are looking for a realistic and serious story but if you like dark topics, an actually interesting mystery and are willing to ignore the plot-holes and unlogical moments then I recommend trying this out!

I normally start off my review with a story based on my own real life experiences.. well the fantasy situations I wished happened in my real life,, while this was going to be much of the same.. I had a completely awesome story about how I would kidnap corpses, dress them up and then walk them around town.. The night would end with me going ham on the body. Although in hind sight I thought that wouldn't' be the best introduction.. I mean some things just aren't funny, and one of those things are in the words of Borat "sexy time" with a corpse isn't one of them.. I mean I could have gone full on Jeffery Dahmer, maybe took it a little old school with Albert Fish, but I didn't want to go too far,, and ultimately this game has no necrophilia so it would have been out of place. Instead I'm going to focus solely on the game and ignore the schnanigans of my past reviews.. Corpse Factory is a visual novel, although you could have gotten that by simply looking at the steam store page. It's a visual novel which touches on some really serious topics, mental illness, suicides, murder, death, body snatching... unfortunately not a single case of necrophilia but if you squint your eyes and look at it from the right hand side maybe.. Actually in all fairness this game has no sex or violence or nudity, but you do get a nice little drawing of side cleavage near the end of act 1. Story - The story is set in Tokyo although in all honesty it could be in any metropolitan area. The story is broken up into a few acts, if I remember correct it's five, the prologue, the Epilogue, Act 1, Act 2, and Act 3. The game features three different point of views, four if you include the prologue character. The overall story revolves around a website called Corpse Girl, it's a website that lets you request the death of someone for any reason... all you need is a photo and a telephone number.. Before the victim dies they receive a photo of their dead body with a time stamp.. Sound good so far, the visual novel is a great read. Although you'll have to ignore certain aspects of realism in order to enjoy it.. Game play - you know the routine,, click click click... fap, fap... oh wait, this game isn't one of those games. The game features five or six choices if I recall correctly. Each choice contributes to one of the three endings. The story isn't really different enough to warrant three different play troughs, just just skip unseen text after the first play through and you're golden pony boy.. assuming you want all the achievements.. Pro's Beautifully crafted story Lots of twist and unexpected turns.. Fairly lengthy took me about 5 - 6 hours to finish the game once Vast majority of the story is voiced exceptionally well (voice actors listed on store page Great attention to the detail Easy 100% in about 6 - 7 hours Con's police are completely useless in the game, ignore any semblance of realism with the police Three different endings, Epilogue remains unchanged in spite of your choices Choices are kind of pointless as they really change nothing Recommendation Well this game or VN if you will, is well written, tells a neat and interesting story, and touches on some real world issues. Reading through it will leave the reader fulfilled, if you enjoy VN"s for reasons other then seeing pixalated bewbs then this will be one of the better ones out there.. It gets extra points for actually being easy to 100%, it doesn't force you to play through 12,000 times and lots of guess work for that +1. If you like reading it'll scratch that itch.. If you enjoy making your e-peener grow, this will scratch that itch. So I'd say, buy it, enjoy it, and review it.
