it would be awesome if they worked on the rest of the game instead of working on releasing a whole other cp2 game

Good game, but incomplete! It seems unforgivable they can leave us hanging with what seems like such a promising taste of a new Corpse Party story! Like other reviewers have said, this game is genuinely really good! It's relatively simple, but throws you into the story and the action starts right away. I found the pacing and narrative quite captivating, even if the characters don't get much back story. Probably the biggest criticism (apart from the game being a single chapter) was the boss battles as they're quite unoriginal. You'll probably finish the whole thing in one sitting, maybe a second if you want to get all endings and achievements. It's a bit of a let down that it's not clearly marked as unfinished on the store page, so be forewarned! Despite this, if you've got some dollars to spare, getting it on sale isn't the worst way to spend your money. Let's hope the rumors of Corpse Party 2 being "reworked" into another title is true. Here's also hoping they offer a discount to existing holders of the game!

Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is an eerie, claustrophobic entry in the long-running horror series, and even though it represents a new story arc with a new cast, it retains the franchise’s signature blend of psychological tension, supernatural dread, and gruesome mystery. Developed by GrisGris and published by XSEED Games and Marvelous USA, Inc., the game opens with an immediately unsettling scenario: a young girl, Ayame, wakes up strapped to an operating table in a dark hospital with no memory of how she arrived there. Her disorientation becomes the player’s own as you guide her through dim corridors, blood-marked rooms, and abandoned wards that hint at experiments and events far more horrifying than any ordinary medical failure. The hospital setting lends itself naturally to fear — sterile at first glance but decaying and corrupted at every turn — and the game takes advantage of it by filling even the quiet moments with unease. The gameplay format shifts away from the visual-novel structure of earlier Corpse Party titles and instead leans into survival-horror exploration. Movement is handled in a top-down 3D perspective, which allows for more environmental interaction than past entries. You’ll search through rooms for keys, examine lockers and cabinets for clues, and collect items that can help you advance or avoid death. The hospital is full of locked doors, broken passageways, and notes left behind by staff and patients whose fates you gradually piece together. Rather than traditional combat, the game relies on stealth and evasion. When dangerous entities appear — malformed creatures or relentless pursuers — your best chance at survival involves hiding, running, or distracting the threat. This vulnerability is central to the game’s tension; every encounter reinforces the feeling that Ayame is fragile, unarmed, and completely out of her depth. Atmosphere is where Dead Patient excels most. The sound design mixes distant footsteps, faint whispers, and unnerving mechanical noises, creating an environment where silence is rarely comforting. The flickering lights, shadows pooling in corners, and the way the hospital rooms are staged contribute to a layered sense of dread. Even the more mundane elements, like abandoned patient charts or personal effects left behind, become macabre hints of what has happened in the building. The game’s shift to 3D models and environments allows for more dynamic scare framing — hallways that stretch farther than expected, sudden changes in lighting, and moments where the camera perspective intensifies a jump or a reveal. Despite the small scale of the project, the developers manage to evoke the chilling mood that made the original series memorable, though with a different stylistic flavor. Where Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient struggles is in its scope. The version available on Steam includes only Chapter 1 and a short supplementary story, leaving the overarching narrative unresolved. The story introduces several intriguing threads — Ayame’s identity, the hospital’s secret experiments, the nature of the monstrous enemies — but none are fully explored or concluded. As a result, the game feels like the opening act of a much larger tale, one that ends abruptly just as the mysteries begin to take shape. For players invested in story-driven horror, this lack of follow-through can be deeply unsatisfying. The episodic structure originally planned for the game has stalled, with no clear indication of when later chapters will release, if ever, leaving the experience suspended in unsettled darkness. Some of the mechanical execution also reveals the game’s limitations. Enemy AI can be inconsistent: sometimes dangerous creatures behave unpredictably and induce panic, while at other times they get caught on objects or fail to react convincingly. The puzzles, though serviceable, rarely challenge beyond basic fetch-quest structures, and exploration can feel constrained compared to other survival-horror titles. The visuals, while atmospheric, are modest, with stiff character animations and environments that occasionally look sparse. None of these issues ruin the experience, but they do remind the player that this is a smaller, indie effort attempting to punch above its production size. Despite its flaws and unfinished state, Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient succeeds in creating a tense, unsettling horror atmosphere that lingers. It’s a story about fear, identity, and the horrors that arise when medical ethics collapse into something monstrous. As a standalone experience, it offers chilling moments, memorable scenes, and a handful of effective scares. As the beginning of something larger, it is filled with potential — potential that remains unrealized due to its incomplete release. Fans of the series may appreciate seeing GrisGris experiment with a new setting and gameplay style while preserving the franchise’s dark tone. Newcomers may enjoy it as a bite-sized horror experience, though they should be prepared for the abrupt, unresolved ending. Ultimately, Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient is a haunting fragment of what could have been a gripping horror arc. It captures the oppressive dread of waking up alone in a nightmare that refuses to explain itself, and in its best moments, it channels the chilling spirit of classic Corpse Party storytelling. But until its remaining chapters emerge, it stands as a compelling yet incomplete chapter — an eerie prologue waiting for the rest of its terror to be told. Rating: 6/10

Love the game but its been almost 6 years since its last update and no chapter 2? Great franchise love the writing, and the immersive atmosphere just wish it gave me more than a spoonful of a game.

A much shorter version from the original games due to the smaller environment and I believe less name tags/ medical documents to find, however still true to the story and art style of the original Corpse Party games despite the newer characters. Definitely one of my favourite story twists towards the end and I would have loved to see that plot point continued on in a second part or DLC to this version. My only criticism for these is that due to the more 3D style of the map layout and characters there can be some areas in which you may get a bit stuck physically and it was just a shame to go against the usual pixel style we see in these category of games, though it did grow on me as we got to keep the drawn art alongside.
