I have over 1000 hours, I'll make this as short as I can. BUYER BEWARE BRING A POWERFUL CPU OR YOUR SYSTEM WILL BOG. The Good: Modding is easy, Concept, Combat, Building, Crafting Ships, Resource management. Everything except one aspect and its a glaring horrible issue. THE BAD: This game has MASSIVE late game performance issues that shouldn't happen. Your CPU is going to overload as soon as you make a fleet of ships. The problem is the CPU/Game keeps track of everything, (and I mean EVERYTHING) exact position and condition of each object. This in turn drops a hammer on the cpu, and over time creates a massive list of actions it must process. For this ungodly reason your system bogs down everything and time compression crawls. If you have a total crew of 200+ between multiple ships expect the game to be completely unplayable. If you look at the drone systems in Factorio for instance you can have 10000+ of those running on the screen and then start to see some lag. Cosmo gets bogged down right before the crest of the hill of the game in my opinion. It takes you right up until things get good and then drops a hammer on your adventure by completely misusing cpu resources. Whats worse is the devs are doing paint upgrades. WHY!? when you have such a glaring issue in front of you. It's right there. No offense. I have a massive amount of respect for developers and these types of games or I wouldn't place a review. But the team is missing the mark. Either address the issue or a great number of players are not going to have access to the game based on computer power. This is such a promising game. So many amazing systems and promise to have great additions and expansions. I could seriously see myself playing this game for decades. FIX the CPU issue or this will not get better. I am rooting for you. Respectfully,

The campaign/open world is hot GARBAGE and you have no impact on the balance of power in the universe, no meaningful roleplaying, no reason to align with any of the factions. There's little to do but blow up pirates and collect bounties, but that in and of itself is very very fun. Ship building is great. Blowing a pirate base to smitharines and then cannabalizing it to expand your ship is great. But the game desperately needs meaningful progression otherwise once you've blown up a few of the S tier ships there's no challenge left and no purpose.

While it's fun overall enough for me to recommend it to people who are into spaceship builders, there are some issues with the game. Most importantly, I can never quite understand whose idea was it to have your crew members haul plasma batteries around to power your stuff. I'd rather have the power being pumped through cables or conduits instead, makes more sense this way, and also helps to cut down on bloat.

It has amazing potential, but isn't quite there yet Now don't get me wrong the ships are amazing the systems are cool, but the campaign is lacking. Currently there's no real driving force for your story, you just run around do quests and build a bigger ship? there's no real end goal or thought put into who YOU are. Yes this can be good for some games but Cosmoteer missing the mark games like Minecraft and 7 Days have. In minecraft there's no driving force but you can explore a rather interesting world with a lot of little objectives that are able to be made for yourself. 7 days has no real story but a threat and goal to push you to survive and grow. Cosmoteer wouldn't work with the threat of annihilation that 7 days has to be a driving factor in the campaign. I feel it needs a solid story element added in to decide who you are. Or have cool things to explore or goals to accomplish, currently there's the ship graveyard and solar asteroids for those and that's it. If you love just making cool designs and playing around with the editor that's fine, PVP is another option. I just feel campaign misses the mark of what game like this needs to be compelling.
