TL;DR Crafty Survivors is in my opinion one of the best games that came out of the "bullet heaven" hype, it offers a lot of challenge and various progression systems that keep you engaged, every character plays in a genuinely unique way. If you're looking to get a lot of bang for your buck and find other "bullet heavens" too easy, this one may be for you. Controls Crafty Survivors allows a spectrum from full autopilot to full manual control within the battles, which allows you to adjust to your preferences or even change it on the fly depending on your build. Some characters definitely work better on full manual piloting, among those Axel specifically is a little finicky to use as the charged manual attacks will automatically release on level up regardless of charge status, mildly annoying when you are trying to do precise strikes. I definitely prefer playing this with a controller. There is a minor display issue (as of time of posting) where the game will show me PlayStation button layouts before switching the symbols back to the gamepad layout. Seems to happen when I alt-tab or at the start of a new run. This doesn't affect gameplay but it has been a thing for as long as I remember playing. Gameplay During a run, you defeat a certain amount of enemies, then finish the level by defeating a boss. Level Ups are unique to each individual character, and each character has at least 2-3 discrete builds you can spec into. While there is not too much variety in the builds, each character plays so different that you have a lot more variety than you'd expect. Between the runs, you use accumulated resources to improve your stats and unlock new features. The scaling is small early on but becomes much more significant the further you progress. The big milestone upgrades like Max HP Up and the Skill Tree Unlocks feel very rewarding to get into, a merchant allows you trading money for resources at a balanced exchange rate. The progression systems share the same resources, so you either have to make choices or grind quite a bit to max it out. Some people love it, some hate it. Art and Music I like the pixel art, the environmental themes, the character variety, the music is pleasant and doesn't get annoying even after long sessions. I have nothing negative to say but also not a lot more than that. I like the little bits of lore with the mail and newspapers, it's very minimal but adds some personality to everything, as well as hints for secrets you can unlock.

If you're a fan of Survivor games then this one is definitely worth checking out. Each character requires you to adapt a different playstyle, not only making each character feel unique, but greatly adding to the replayability of each level. It feels as if the game has much more potential to grow from here, so hopefully it does.

I try almost every vs clone. EA titles aren't great so much can change before 1.0. I found Crafty Survivors and have almost 100% it. Pretty cool synergies and I really like the town build, stats, and character unlock-type meta progression. I beg you to play this game. I enjoy bringing people happiness, even if it's recommending the most funnest (I know) game and give props to the devs. Also, I'm missing a hidden achievement and not enough people are playing to find it for me. :)

This is one of those sleeper games that is going to blow up when people realize how good it is. I honestly can't think of any survivor type games that are as fulfilling as this one. It actually feels like I'm playing a game instead of "turning off my brain" and letting it play for me. The way each character plays and the mechanics surrounding them is some of the most fun I've had in a survivors game. My only minor complaint is a bit of the grindiness in some of the zones as I only play on the hardest difficulty which makes the levels take way longer. It isn't that bad because the meta progression in the game is really well done and makes you look forward to your runs even when you have to complete earlier zones. The character uniqueness is something other games can aspire to.

Fantastic survivor roguelite. It's got a few things that make it stand out from the rest. 1. The gameplay is a bit more hands-on. You will either love this or hate this. You need to aim and use various abilities. This makes for a more engaging experience, Which, you'll see, is fine, because the various characters are all very different from eachother and are honestly quite unique. See the Sculptor character when you start the game up. (One of the two starter classes) One of the coolest character designs I've ever seen in a survivor game, and that's high praise. Well done devs. 2. You "build a town" with all of the materials that you collect. I love this ish, it scratches an itch I find myself having quite a bit. It's not complicated, nor is it even free form, but it's still satisfying progression. All in all, it's a unique and satisfying experience of a survivor roguelite. Also, it's 100% finished, never a better time to check it out.
