I purchased this game around a week or so after it was released, having read a lot of reviews I thought it seemed like a worthwhile purchase. However, one topic that came up time and time again was the story being hard to follow, pacing issues, or just generally bad overall, I personally quite enjoyed the first hour, yet it felt incomplete, NPCs talking to you and the main character staying completely silent, it seemed very disjointed. After another couple of hours, I tried to enjoy the game but I just couldnt, the mostly silent protagonist bugged me, the story seemed to be leading you here there and everywhere but not explaining why you are going there or any information on why its important to you. The world and the mechanics however i truly enjoyed and its what kept me returning to try it again and again. Today, i jumped back on after hearing of the latest major update 2.0. It apparently added bits to the story, so i played it, from the beginning. What were they thinking? the sections of the story where you would expect the character to speak but he always remained silent, he now talks, the reasons for him doing certain things or going to specific areas, now have cutscenes giving a glimpse to that reason, its so much better and finally i feel like i will enjoy this game without worry, Kliff has more of a personality and considering how great the voice actor is, its good to see his talent on show finally. It seemed like such a waste of potential. Anyways this is my first review but i thought it needed to be said, i may update it down the line if anything changes for better or worse, but thank you team for the 2.0. It now feels complete and im only an hour or so in. Look forward to the rest. Thanks for taking time out of your day to read this. Stay Safe - Stay Kind

Just finished the game and felt I had to write a small summary. Ever experienced the feeling of an amazing holiday but when you return home and you drop down in your chair and sigh with a content relief? That's Crimson Desert for you. It has been years upon years that I've played a game that scratched every surface. It has so much to offer that summing them up would turn this into an essay. I tend to get bored or burned out midway a long game and this wasn't the case. I lost count how many times I got sidetracked from my initial objective and that's what makes this vast open world so charming and rewarding. What I definitely have to mention is how brilliant the developer Pearl Abyss treats his community, I have seen content changes, updates, fixes, added content all within weeks upon the launch. They are a truely devoted team with great leadership, it's something I'm no longer used to. I definitely recommend it. And if my humble opinion doesn't convince you.. you can pet cats. To my fellow future Greymanes... have fun with Yann ^^

Now that I have an unhealthy amount of time in the game this early on, I think its a good time to leave a review on my experience so far. I just wanted to start with, the amount of updates and fixes since launch has been so good to see as a gamer. They seem to be actually listening to us with what we would like to see or want changed. Huge W for devs. This game reminded me a lot of how I felt as a gamer when Skyrim first came out, the amount of content, and size of the map was extremely overwhelming. BUT it was that feeling x100! The map is so beautiful, with so many unique places to explore, it feels alive. I lose hours just exploring and trying to clear the fog ( I was anti bell ringer for the first 100hrs so I could see where I had actually explored so far. ) The amount of enemies you encounter in uncleared areas is insane, especially with the game running so smooth on my PC with 50+ entities around me. As you journey around the map, you can see the 100s of types of animals around you, it really helps pull you in. You can find and examine every type of animal/bug/fish/rock or even enemy, it forces you to actually interact with everything available in the game. For reference there are 400 different creatures in the game. I wasn't a huge fan on the combat when I first started playing, but as you unlock more moves and learn to chain everything together, its now one of my favorite combat experiences in gaming. Again the amount of armor, weapons, jewelry available to you is overwhelming, I would recommend just using what you like and ignore the guides. They really did a good job with making the difference between a fully upgraded META weapon and a fully upgraded everyday weapon so minimal, that you can truly just use whatever you like, and customize it later on. I highly suggest upgrading the Greymane camp & do their missions as they become available since it unlocks more content for you. The camp is set up in stages, a fully upgraded camp really helps you out enormously. I never messed with the house near camp much, other than to use it as a personal treasure storage. This game is beautiful, challenging, and continues to blow my mind every time I decide to journey to a new area. I often find myself stopping at vantage points & taking screen shots. The story is great if you actually follow it, its a good plot that has you rooting for the Greymanes. Some of the side missions are a bit lack luster, but which game isn't like that, its a bit of a grind. We are talking about the fetch and grab quests. Complete each area as much as you can before moving on, there are some very important things hidden in side quests, not to mention the constant inventory expansion. As you progress the story, there is a steady flow of new content added, giving you tons of new ways to traverse the world or new ways to take down & fight your enemies. I will admit that I had to look up a guide for more than a few of the puzzles, but at least I attempted them on my own. Make sure to search everywhere as they are constantly hiding treasure chests in new hard to get to/hard to see areas. I really don't have anything bad to say about this game, anything that was a problem at launch had been patched within a few days. I could go on and on about how I enjoy everything about this game, I would highly recommend it to anyone who is even slightly interested. This game runs great for my PC (i7 4080), on max cinematic graphics (140fps+). I have now put 200+ hours into this game so far, and I still have about 50% of the map left to explore that I have not even touched. I tried to cover everything I could in the review, because I really want everyone to experience this game for themselves. Hope this helped! Good luck on your journey Greymanes!

I am finally taking a couple break days from this game after playing it every day for at least 6+ hours when I can find time. Like most people I was questioning if I should get this game on release, seeing the reviews, performance issues, etc. But the beautiful thing about Steam is the refund policy so I thought why not. Man this game really went above my own expectations, the initial release had a lot of problems but the game was still incredibly fun and intuitive. Now after 3+ released patches, most of the problems are not present and the game is very enjoyable. Between the side missions, building your group back up, discovering crazy new areas and bosses this game has a lot to offer. I can definitely recommend this game to any future players, and please don't let outlets like IGN influence too much of your review! This game does a lot good, and the company is clearly passionate. Cons: Climbing and the controls are janky a lot of times, so do be aware of that. Story is not great when it starts, but it PICKS UP so fast and gets really interesting. Their is currently 3 playable characters, but there is little to no use to use the two characters you get through out the story. I love love love Damiane too, but she can't be used for most puzzles and main story. (Give the two other characters their own dedicated stories). Overall a VERY solid 9/10 game for me, I put 100+ hours into it within a week and a half and I still only unlocked 3 achievements ✨️

After 60 hours in Crimson Desert, I’ve seen enough of the game to form a solid opinion. At the beginning, the experience was honestly a bit rough. The mechanics feel complicated at first, and the early missions can be somewhat boring while the game slowly introduces its systems. The main character introduction also didn’t hook me immediately. For the first few hours, I wasn’t completely convinced. However, once you start understanding the mechanics, the game opens up massively. The world becomes a playground where you can explore freely, encounter unique bosses, meet interesting NPCs, and complete creative missions. Traversal is one of the most fun parts you can climb, jump huge distances, use ropes almost like Spider-Man, ride dragons, and explore a massive world full of castles, caves, and hidden locations. The combat system is excellent. Fighting feels fast, satisfying, and flexible. There are many combos and different playstyles, and the gear system is refreshing because there is no single “best weapon.” You can upgrade almost any weapon and turn it into something powerful, which gives players a lot of freedom to experiment. Another thing I respect is the developer support. When I first started the game, it had some glitches and the stamina and mana systems were overly punishing the main character could get exhausted very quickly. But within a couple of days, many of these issues were already fixed, which shows the developers actually care about their game. That said, the game still has some flaws. The main characters lack the strong personality of iconic protagonists like Arthur Morgan, Geralt of Rivia, or Kratos. Even though there are multiple playable characters and they are fun mechanically, they don’t feel as memorable. The main story is decent but not exceptional, closer to the style of modern Assassin’s Creed storytelling rather than something truly unforgettable. There are also still some bugs — especially NPC glitches that can break missions. In some cases I started a quest that I couldn’t finish because the NPC didn’t behave correctly. Another weak point is the achievement system. Defeating bosses doesn’t reward achievements, which removes that satisfying feeling when you accomplish something major. Instead, many achievements are tied to grinding side challenges. Despite these issues, the world itself feels alive. You can talk to many characters, read books, explore castles and caves, build homesteads, and constantly discover new things. It’s the type of game where you can easily spend hundreds of hours without getting bored. Pros • Deep and satisfying combat • Huge open world full of exploration • Fun traversal (climbing, ropes, dragons) • Flexible gear system with many builds • Developers actively fixing issues Cons • Slow and boring early hours • Main story is only average • Main characters are not very memorable • Some mission-breaking bugs • Underwhelming achievement system Overall: 9.2/ 10
