This game was on my Wishlist for a while but I never pulled the trigger cause I wasn't sure the idea looked fun enough to put it over other games I wanted to purchase at the time, but I bought it about a week ago or something and good God am I glad I gave it a chance. First off if its on sale for 2 bucks like I did its a no brainer, the game is extremely small file wise so it wont take up room and it has tons of levels. The whole grappling hook idea is WAAAY MORE FUN when actually freestyling with it yourself. I thought it was a gimmick that would get old but has since became something that I wish was in all my speedrunning games. The ability to not only predict your pathways through built momentum is already great for flying around but you can also decrease your rope length mid swing to throw yourself even farther and in some cases if your good enough completely change your path. The games menu is to me already fun enough to just swing around in the lobby for fun. And each chapter has like 12 or so levels. I'm on chapter 5 at the moment. Also one last thing, in terms of speedrunning games not only did this game shoot up quickly on my favorites list with games like "Neon White" "Severed Steel" "Shady Knight" and "Warstride challenges" ( Also phenomenal choices) This game out of all of them are have probably the highest skill ceiling in terms of getting the 3 star or s rank finishes. All the other games its hard but not that difficult to get 3 stars or S rank but this game cuts it REALLLY close to the line to get 3 stars. Most of the time if you are not skipping a large chuck speedrunning style you wont get 3 stars on most. Not too say every level is like that but its a decent chuck
Cool game, lovely movement mechanics, and fun levels. The process of learning and improving feels rewarding and is very entertaining. There is a story to this, but it's so minimal that it wouldn't make a difference for the game to not have one. I would like for the story to be expanded, and I know it will be once 10k people beat the game. I personally really appreciate that they have the "training grounds" before going into a level just to practice or play around.
This is a great speed-running game. Good visuals, good level design, SUPER satisfying physics. My only real gripe is that the final boss in the DLC is frustrating and kinda bugged out, but in my opinion that's easy to overlook when the rest of the game is this fun. If you like time-attack games, 100% pick this up.
3D-Platformer with grapple mechanic. The controls feels solid and well-rounded. There is a feature allowing you to slow down time too. The game doesn't really incentivize it's use elsewhere, as the in-game timer keeps going at a normal pace. This is a good thing. The only use it has aside from slowing down time is an extended grab range. There is only one level that seems to have required this. If the intended use of the mechanic is primarily for newcomers, then it's fine I suppose. It felt like it would've played a more important role though. I honestly forgot all about it immediately. Most of the levels are designed with open space all around. This in turn makes it so the optimal route often ends up being very straightforward and boring. The enclosed levels offered more of a challenge, but there aren't nearly as many of those which is unfortunate. The controls are satisfying enough that I enjoyed the game regardless of the trite level design. The game alludes to some sort of narrative throughout, whose purpose is unclear to me. It wasn't bothersome to the experience so whatever. The games aesthetics and music are fitting and consistent. The achievements are there to incentivize replayability. It does an okay job at that.
A game that lets you make a fool out of Spider-Man and Nathan "Rad" Spencer. Tldr; The coolest game you'll find about swinging. 3 levels are awful, but the rest is pretty good Pros: + The coolest swinging mechanics I've ever seen in a game + Fast-paced, exciting, and I'd be incredibly surprised if you didn't pop-off at least once screaming "YEEESSSS" + Plataforming is responsive, and the controls are tight, making for a smooth swinging experience + Most levels are reasonable and fair, with only three levels that I thought were poorly designed. 3/111 is a good ratio + The soundtrack is pretty good + Achievements are reasonable, which is good considering that it would be reeeaaally easy to screw them up and make them impossible + This game is a speedrunner's dream + Creative ways to complete each level; Rarely will there just be a single solution to a level + Fun overworld that lets you experiment free-range swinging + DLC in case you want more Cons: - Those 3 poorly designed levels are hell to complete. The worst level in the game is called "You're Burning", and it is ATROCIOUS. You might say "skill issue" but give it a shot and then tell me how much fun you had 3 starring it. I had around 500 deaths by the time of this level, and I got the "retry 1000 times" achievement with this level. Dying around 500 times on one level is WAY TOO MUCH. Awful design. - On that same previous point, open levels are decent and exciting, but some of the closed-in levels are less fun and more on the frustrating side. It's no more than 3 or 5, but you'll remember them as groan-worthy - If you're a perfectionist or get easily motion sick, you may want to avoid this one Overall, you may want to check this one out if you like plataformers or if you want a game that's completely different from the usual market. 9.1/10
