They just don't make game like this very often. You don't have to wait a minute while a bunch of companies scroll past. You don't have wait in absurdly long loading screens. You don't go through two hours of tutorials just to learn how to play. You boot up the game, and all of the mechanics speak for themselves. This game is 100% gameplay, where you spiderman your way around trippy 3D obstacle courses trying to maximize your momentum to see the big number in the corner of the screen go up. The feeling of going fast in this game and swinging around tight corners narrowly evading death is top tier. It gets really hard in the last dozen or so levels and I couldn't even beat them. If you like platformers and need to kill an afternoon, this is the perfect game.
Have you ever wanted to play a game where you kind of feel like Spider-Man? Do you like games that test your wits and speed? Well Verlet Swing might be the game for you. I have put in just about eight hours into this game, and I can’t help but feel that I can’t get those hours back. I won’t spoil too much in this intro and as usual I will tell you what the pros and cons are and then give my final thoughts at the end. Pros: Simple gameplay Great music Creative level design Plenty of levels Cons: A little too challenging Level design gets too complicated Motion sickness inducing Wonky momentum Music can be weary on the ears A Little Too Challenging The game does a great job at showing amazing levels that are fun and enjoyable. Once you get towards the last 20 levels is when it starts getting out of hand. The levels become extremely difficult, to the point that it becomes unenjoyable. I am not so arrogant to understand that games do need to have challenges. It’s what keeps the players engaged and coming back for more. But this; this game made it very unbearable. For the first 80 levels, the music was engaging, and the levels presented some challenges but it was still enjoyable. After that is when it all goes downhill. Level Design Gets Too Complicated All of the levels are very crazy and yet beautiful to look at in an interesting way. And piggy-backing off my first point, the levels get hard and the creativeness tends to suck the joy out of the fun. There are crazy hairpin turns, areas that look possible to go through but aren’t. And then you start asking yourself “why were the levels made like this?” Motion Sickness Inducing If you are a smart individual, you will learn to take breaks with this game. I did not. After an hour or so, the game takes a toll on your eyes. There was a moment when I was playing this, attempting to get through the whole game in one go, and I felt like I was going to throw up as I kept going. Please don’t be like me and take a break every 30 minutes to an hour. Wonky Momentum When you swing you can build momentum to help you get to certain areas or achieve great speed. The biggest issue that I noticed is that when you have very low momentum and you are trying to stay at a slow speed, the game will automatically pull you in with as much speed as possible. It makes it difficult to take your time if you don’t intend on speed running like myself. Music Can Be Weary On The Ears Moving on to the music, it’s honestly one of the best qualities of the game. Heavy beats, retro-synthwave are great genres to listen to. However when you start getting into the weeds of the game and really dive in, the music can get on your nerves pretty quickly. It isn’t necessarily bad, but there was a point in time when I had to turn it off completely. Overall, the game is fun. It has very beautiful levels, the music slaps, and the gameplay mechanics are simple and fun. It’s an easy game to pick up and the price for it won’t break the bank either. (Price was $14.99 USD as of 13OCT26). The game gives the vibe of a song called "Lisa Frank 420 / Modern Computing“ by Macintosh Plus. However the game falls short with the crazy spike in difficulty towards the end, and I absolutely lost my mind. The fun was sucked out and I am at the point now where I don’t think I will ever pick this game up again. I will recommend playing it however. If you like games where you can be a trippy version of Spider-Man, like speed-running occasionally, enjoy crazy level designs and synthwave music, then this might be the game for you.
simple, but very fun. I bought it on sale - as long as you know all you'll be doing is swinging it's pretty great. Reminds me of Monkey Ball honestly (but instead of a monkey in a ball you're a void swinging around ... they're just both movement time trial pseudo-platformers)
